All personal taste, but I'd rather this than a 'supercar' any day. That combination of the looks, the sound, the simplicity and the sensible power level. Just stunning.
Same here! That's why I do. Though I spent about as much as a 0:03 supercar restoring mine..😂 But, nothing puts me in my Happy place faster than a drive in my Orange fully restored 72 240-Z. Got my 1st 240 when I was 17yrs old. Had 1 or more even since..
A 77' Datsun 280z was my first car I learned to drive on. After 3 years and a few minor breakdowns I traded it in for a pickup truck and didn't spend a day afterwards regretting it! 2 years later I found a 1972 Datsun 240z (lime-yellow & same birth year as me) and I KNEW I WOULD NEVER NEED ANOTHER CAR. -Fast forward 2 years of patient restoring and love and some jack-brat kid ran a light in his moms tin-can and T-BONED my Datsun, TOTALING IT. And that was that... for nearly 25 years I worked on my career and family and for my 50th birthday last year, I found and purchased a 1970 Datsun 240z for just under 20k ! Everything about this car is clean! During the winter, as it's cloaked under its silk car-cover in my garage, not a single trip to the garage refrigerator for a beer passes, that merely seeing her and being united doesn't pick up my spirits and make every beer taste THAT MUCH BETTER! I'm Complete again!
Phenomenal video given conditions, well done SCD and huge congratulations Charles, you’ve tapped into the UK’s best kept secret discovering MZR Roadsports and I wish you many years of driving utopia 🧡
Such underrated cars. The sound in these are incredible and right up there with other classics which are considered more exotic! Love the interior colour combination too. Brave souls driving it in such weather with no ABS and TC!
I've been following any video MZR 240Z were shown and tested for years. And still, what a car! I'd really love to have one. Congratulations on such a magnificent build, really tastefully modified, a perfect recipe. 👏👏👏👌🏼🔝🔝
Congratulations. You must be delighted. I have a beautiful 260z (swb) that puts the widest of grins on my face every time I take it out. I'll never part with it. Am sure you'll enjoy yours for many years to come. Lovely review too...
First video I watched on this channel, it popped up (coincidentally, I hope) just as I'm reading about MRZ in Waft's Restomods book. What an absolutely gorgeous car, I hope you enjoy it as its makers intented.
Love it, Looks beautiful, sounds beautiful, super cool and I know they are great to drive. Mine now has a 500HP RB26, but I l loved it even when it had 170hp, proper connection to the car and the road, feels very solid and no driver aids.
That workshop will be my first stop if I ever get back to the UK again (From NZ) I own NZ's first 240Z, it's in a million bits and I MUST get back into finishing the rebuild. Just the sound of this one in the video gets my juices flowing again.
😎👍 Beauty!!! My buddy bought a 240z in 2007, and from the first time I experienced it, I was in love! I agree with everything mentioned in this video. For pure driving engagement & pleasure on the scenic back roads, I'll always enjoy an older, lighter, more engaging "classic" (but, the early 90's were only 10 years ago, right? 😁) sports car. Plus, modern cars are so over styled / all look the same / have terrible front end design. So many 90's Japanese sports cars look absolutely beautiful today, even as over 30 year old designs. As always, to each his or her own. For those chasing lap times and optimal performance, there is no denying that modern sports cars deliver the goods.
Back in the day when I was a lot younger, I had a black 240Z with Wolfrace alloys on ,…PMC 677L Best car ever, I had the time of my life with that motor, way ahead of their time imo, wish I still had it because they are fetching phenomenal prices now 😳! Great job on yours 👍
72 240z was my first car. My dad bought it for my 18th birthday for $1500. It was a one owner car... older (by the time I got it) lady owned it since new. Still had the wood steering wheel, which are RARE to find & gorgeous. The interior looked showroom clean apart from the dreaded dash cracks that had juuuuuust started to show. It was immaculate BUT, it was the 3 speed automatic which I guarantee took away from the experience. I eventually sold it for a 68 Firebird. In retrospect I never should have sold it and just swapped transmissions and turbocharged that L24.
I have a stock 240z to. Still fun to drive, although 150hp ( 110 at the wheels maybe) is nothing anymore off course these days but it is still fun to drive. Just a fun cruiser on summer days. Off course i could put a 3 liter stroker in it, but i love it more original matching numbers
Great exhaust note. That's how a sports car should sound. Won't ever be able to afford the Evo model but maybe can scrape up for a LHD Sport-Design model. Baseline weight should be about the same - a stock 240Z was about 1050 kilos. I'd want something close to the dark green shade Datsun used - a friend owned one that color in the 70's and I thought it was really good looking. I owned one in the dark brown color a few years later and didn't like that as weil.
Charles do you still have the F40? If so do you ever parade it? or do any track days? Or are you going to parade this car at all? Both of them are absolutely stunning
240 Z's have been a favorite since I was at school ( a looooong time ago). Did you supply the base car or do they source one then do the rest? Might have to contact them
I'm a few minutes, and did I hear you right? It takes 2-3 years wait time for delivery of a commission? Not to be diminutive but MZR is a great rising auto house and I have been a fan but are they on the level of Singer Design to have that long of a wait time?
I kick myself every day for turning my nose up at these when I was a kid learning to drive in the 90's, when they could have been had for dirt cheap. I was so into muscle cars (and particularly Mustangs) at the time I didn't think much of the old import cars and now... now I want a 240Z or 260Z or even a 510, but they are unobtanium in decent shape now. They are all clapped out or super expensive.
Wide body, bigger wheels, race suspension, bigger brakes, luxury interior all adds weight, but look at it, who cares and it’s way up on power to more than cater for a few lbs ❤
Man, your Datsun really looks very expensive because the bright colour, the rims, and overall interior I always like the design of this car, it is mix between casual and aggressive (in my opinion) it is also very simple There is one in my province and it cost around $5400, i will get it soon or later, amen 👍
you take that car's delivery on a day that has ice and snow on the ground. Brilliant there BIG GUY!! GR8 IDEA? IF YOU HAD WRECKED THAT THING, YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN THE LAUGHING STOCK ON THE NET
@@supercar.driver I actually have, but not like yours! I sold cars in the 90's & we had a used 240z, red manual for sale and I took it out for a couple hours and had a BLAST driving it! 💯
Totally agree.
This is a “supercar”. The combination of everything it brings to the table makes it so. My opinion anyway but I am a Z owner also so maybe I’m bias

This is the answer to modern "sports" cars. It's everything they aren't. Analogue, engaging and fun. Amazing. Congrats!

One of Bradfords finest exports! Car looks and sounds amazing! Congratulations and well jelly!

I'm a Z guy all the way back to the 70s....this is one of the best I've ever seen!
That is one sexy motorcar. Far more desirable than any modern McLaren or Ferrari to me.

Lovely sound.
i want to restore one of these one day, they just have such a timeless design

That is the most stunning car ive seen. Any chance you could share a cost breakdown

UK weather and roads tho 😢
Thanks a lot! Been waiting that long 😂👍
Happy to see someone doing these 240’s like Singer does the Porsche. Sadly, like the Singer I could never afford one like this.
Nicer than a Porsche, lovely silhouette and sound and yes, perfectly balanced. Great work.
Glad you like it!
@@supercar.driver I just wonder, how does it handle without ABS and TC? Doesn't it make you a bit nervous on the road in these cold conditions?
