  • Vintage hankies or linens/tablecloths are just wonderful to use in memory quilts, pillows, cushions etc., So when you see a bunch of hankies at that local thrift/charity shop, snap them up!! Priceless!!
    Join me for Truelove Family stories (which I have many, as a mother of 10 kids), Mothering Autism, with our Maxwell on our many fun car rides, and Free quilting class and sewing lessons! And as in a 'classroom' setting, my tutorials are approximately 1/2 hour+ long....So Join me in my home sewing room, out and about and trying to make all sorts of quilted goodies! Be aware ~ I like to chat and probably repeat myself over and over, (and stutter sometimes), and if this annoys you, then view elsewhere - but, if patient, you hopefully will learn a new method or technique and get an insight into a very large family and their crazy fun:)
    And as always: Love From The Trueloves;)

    You are so fortunate that Ian doesn’t mind the master bedroom being so feminine. I remember you had one of your master bedrooms painted pink! Oh my! My husband would not enjoy such feminine and frilly (girly) colors and decorations. It’s nice you are free to decorate your shared bedroom with a feminine flare! Our bedroom is much more “gender neutral” which accommodates both of our tastes and preferences.

      I am blessed! We have ALWAYS had a very very frilly, lacy pink flowery bedroom!! LOL! Someone asked my Ian if he minded and he answered "No, it's like waking up in a womb'!! LOL! He doesn't mind at all and I go over the top! Mind you, when it DOES come to the thousand pillows on the bed ~ He throws them down!!! LOL! LOL!

    What a great idea for your hankies! I remember my mom having some pretty hankies, but I don’t know what happened to them. I will definitely watch for them at yard sales and goodwill stores. The picture of your sons pool made me feel sick, so awful! This old system is just one disaster after another. So glad we have Jehovah to lean on through these trying times! How nice Rodger could come for a visit 🤟 ❤❤❤

      Oh Sondra, the Florida mess is a disaster. Poor poor guy. So much to deal with. But with Jehovah's help for calm and wisdom, we get through it. Roger was originally planning on staying longer, but he has to go back to the UK Bethel at their request. He is used as a BSL signer on the branches videos and is needed. He is a great guest:)

Thinking of them everyday and the people who are in similar situation. Jean, the collection of your vintage hankies are beautiful. Goodness! they bring back memories, Jean. Look forward to see once you have turned them into a quilt. You are such an inspiration lady. I agree with you, all vintage items such as doilies etc at a thrift shop have gone up and up in price, they have become pricey items these days, yet we used to think they did not worth much! LOL !! Hi Jean, I have several of my grandmothers hankies and I am 60 so you know they are very old. 😂 I believe mine are all silk so they are very delicate. Thanks for sharing on what to do with these. I actually thought I night make a summer jacket, but again I was concerned that because they are silk I would be worried to wear it. Lots to consider I guess. I will just watch your tutorial now and maybe I will know what to do. I am just now starting to watch. I am 11 min in to the tutorial.

    I also have a collection of old hankies but mine are mostly lace or hand embroidered and different sizes. But I think I could mount them on a white background fabric. I shall have to have a think to see what's best to do. Your hanky quilt is going to be awsome.

    I believe these types of hankies were actually used for that purpose. Instead of using disposable tissues or Kleenex, people used hankies for their nose (kept them in their purse or pocket and then washed them everyday). It’s a different world now.

    Hi Jean,
    Lovely video and your works are beautiful! Wondering if you include the SILK beauties? Or might they shatter over time (like we have seen in antique crazy quilts)? Will fusible stabilizer prevent that from happening? Thank you! Nancy in So Calif.

    • @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory
      @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory  5 місяців тому +1

      Thank you Nancy:) I HAVE made quilts and pillows with silk hankies, having used light weight interfacing and quilting stitches to stabilize them, however, the things I have made are NOT for everyday use. More decorative as, yes, the vintage silk tends to be VERY fragile and prone to disintegrating or shredding with handling. But with more decorative items - that is the way to go:)

      @jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory  Рік тому +1

      I HAVE made a quilt using lace doilies, you just have to be careful when you stitch them onto the background blocks(no interfacing necessary). I used a very wide zig zag and went very slowly around each doily edge after Elmers Glue sticking it down around the edges. I used some vintage doilies and also some new ones that I didn't feel bad about cutting in half or quarters....that way the blocks were more interesting.
