Twenty years ago, I needed a barrister for two days in my case against my employer. Cost me £1200 each day and each time he was about as much use as a chocolate teapot. The first more interested in reading up his next case as we waited to go into court and, the second seemed more on my employers side (I'd won my case, this was about compensation) but after nearly two years, I was too emotionally wrecked to ask him "Just whose side are you on?" It was money down the drain.

As a contractor, I once made the mistake of telling a salaried colleague my hourly rate. Never again. I could see him performing mental arithmetic, creating a per annum figure that didn't include holiday, sick leave, accommodation, other expenses, etc... He became quite resentful, is if I'd found some sort of golden ticket that wasn't available to him.

And these people don't have the guts to become contractors. They prefer the nice easy cushy life of being an employee and yet they moan about how much more contractors are paid

Thank you for the transparency, you didn't need to share such private details but you have. It is a fair amount of money, but honestly for the years of studying and the amount of work put into that hour (and even beyond that hour at times) and £300 an hour seems fair and honestly not many would do so much work for less. And sometimes there are the no shows who cost time and money, I know of CAB volunteers who have had appointments with people only for it to be wasted. It must be quite a difficult job. Do you enjoy what you do?

Compared to the pay of nurses, teachers and paramedics this is silly money. If you are lucky enough to have a skill that lets you earn so much, good luck to you, brave to tell people what you earn.

when minimum wage is £9.50 for most people it's no wonder we experience what we do is it? the whole system is rotten to the core i can't wait for God to sort this mess out finally once and for all when he puts a stop to all the evil in this place...no longer will the poor and weak be oppressed, raped, murdered, robbed whilst others profit from their pain and suffering and misery in the name of justice, care, peace and saftey

Being a barrister is all about conforming to Court procedures, yes m’lord, no m’lord. The actual evidence is a secondary concern.
