      Yes, I get lots of them. But on a circuit board there is another component with even more copper. It is a relay. A small black plastic box right next to the torrid that scrapitall smashed in his vice. It turns on/off the torrid which is a type of transformer. Smash it open, it has a plastic shell and you will see a spool of copper wire and also a few pieces of copper switches.

  • @cyberdan1000
    @cyberdan1000 9 місяців тому +1

    I am a micro scrapper too. I live in an area where the closest scrap yard is a two hour drive. So I have a lot of time between trips, sometimes 4-6 months. My yard calle all the wire you show #2 windings. They pay a bit les than straight #2. Buy when pulling from transformers and motors I do not have to remove all the tape and strings.
    On the torrids, you smash them in a vice, that is too much work. Sometimes I do 100 at a time. Just put them, on the round side, on your work bench and hit with a hammer. Most will smash with one good hit.
    I have been tossing all receptacles and light switches. I didn't know a well placed hit with a claw hammer would open them. I knew there was brass inside but I thought it would be too much work to get them open. Thanks

    I usually just take a hammer to the circuit breakers, using a towel or thick canvas to cover them so the Bakelite shards don't go flying. I do the same sometimes with the plug sockets and light switches. Much easier than drilling out the rivets. I haven't found any end buyers for the silver contacts, as many of them are mixed with hazardous materials, so refining them is apparently harder...the established precious metals buyers here won't take them.

    • @scrapitall200
      @scrapitall200  9 місяців тому +1

      I normally stick a flathead screw driver in them and break them apart but I figured I’d show the drilling method lol.

    Not to be a buzz kill but you may want to check the piece you called the "big copper donut" I just scrapped my first microwave and checked everything with a file. I had one that looked just like that. I was excited by the weight of it but when I took the file to it I scratched off the copper color coating, it was aluminum underneath. 😢

      You are right, sometimes they can be aluminum and I should’ve mentioned that in the video, thank you!

    How did I never know those small round black things had copper in them?
    What do you end up doing with the gold pins? Lack of me knowing means they have been going into tin pile.

    What are those little black things with the copper inside? They look like capacitors.

    • @scrapitall200

      They are a type of inductor. What they actually do I’m not sure lol, I just know they contain copper. 😂

    hey SiA! Thank you for the video, today i have 2 questions. First, what is the name of the tool that u use to cut the gold pins? and second: how can i identify these copper containers on boards, as i heard they can contain aluminium liquid too? looking forward to your answers, have a good time.

    • @scrapitall200
      @scrapitall200  9 місяців тому +1

      Hello! They are called flush cutters or flush side cutters. They are specifically designed for circuit board.
      I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “copper container” any way you can send me a picture of what you’re talking about through email? Scrapitall878@gmail.com

      @@saschakonze6867 if I’m getting this correct you’re talking about capacitors ahd the outer case is aluminum but inside there is non metal stuff inside. Most scrap yards won’t even pay dirty aluminum prices for them, so I toss them in my steel shred pile. Hope this answered your question!
