This video really got me emotional 😭. I flew all the way from Spain to spend the Summer of 93 working at Pirate's Fun Park. I've got so many great memories from that place that watching this video after such a long time really made my day. Thanks a lot for sharing. ❤
Thanks for posting this so we all (who were so fortunite to experience Salisbury in it's hey day) could reminisce with you. My family was there ever summer from 59-74. Our place was the white 4 plex on the right when you went down through the beach access. There used to be a milk and chocolate milk machine right at that spot. We would find dimes under the machine and then go spend them at "the center" The stories go on and on. The best childhood and memories. I have been back a few times but have not seen the dodgems building. It's so cool you found it. My neck still hurts from that ride. Ha ha You made my day!
I was born in 1960 and my Mother and Grandmother took me to Salisbury and Hampton Beach at least twice a week. I was so Happy going to these beaches. I pratically grew up here. It was sad to see it go down hill but since this video was posted it seems like they have added a lot of new stuff. The Salisbury Discount store was one of my favorite places besides the beach itself where we ate sandy bologna sandwiches and koolaid.😊Some of the best times of my life were on this Beach and Hampton Beach. Love Tripoli's pizza too! So much fun! Thanks for the Great memories🥰🥰❤❤
I remember going there in the 80s as a kid, THE time of my life! And I went again almost every weekend in 1995 for the Sock Hops, which were run by Gary from Chelmsford. (Gary's Ice Cream.) A friend of mine always helped set up there. So fun.
I worked and was a manager of Midway/Pirates Park in the 80s and 90s. The dodgems I believe were invented by the family that owned the park. I think they had a factory called Dodgem Corp in Lawrence many years ago. The castle was build by Happy of Happy fried doe. He lives up there to this day. The coaster was right next to the dodgems. The lot with the condos was Shaheens go carts for many years until he moved them to where his water slide was. He had a water slide that was never used in that lot as well. Pirates took over the go carts and used the water slide pool as bumper boats. I have so many great memories working there.
I spent a few summer vacations here in the mid to late 1980's. My parent's used to take me to Salisbury Beach going back to the early 1970's. I want to say that the Dodge EM or Bumper Cars here were one of the first in the country hence why it probably still stands. I haven't been here in years and much has changed. Can't believe how much was torn down including Frolic's!!! No more water slides either. Loved the Himalaya!!! Thanks for posting, I have so many fond memories here as a kid and teenager
My dad took me there every weekend in 1977 and 1978 when I was 6 and 7. Absolutely loved it. Always got a corn on a stick on our way out. One time dad and I went on ferris wheel and the guy running it left for a break or meal, cuz we were left going around and around for about 30 minutes. Nobody else was there. I loved it! Thanks for posting this. I live in the Midwest now and always wondered what happened to it. Sad to see the shape its in. That was such a staple for every Mass kid back then. It's a shame they couldn't keep it running. But thanks for the trip down memory lane! P.S. I also rode the bumpers cars too! As my dad called em, the dodge' ems. Lol
This made me so sad... I lived rt on Salisbury Bch every summer from mid-June to Labor Day from 1954-1975. I was a baby when we started & got married after that last year. Talk about it's heyday!! My favorite yrs were living off of North End Blvd... Thanks for this video.
Hi there great video Salisbury Beach is just a Faded Memory of what it once was I’ve also walked into the lot a few times where the skeleton of the bumper cars is pretty cool that it’s still there I also remember rides being where that Sea Glass building is there was a Sky Diver ride check out a video here on YT of Salisbury Beach from 1983 it’s pretty cool shows all the amusements that were once there sure was a fun place
I live on Atlantic, I was fortunate enough to experience the last rides ever, (Aside from that one year where they filmed the equalizer 2), when I was 4 years old, crazy to think that I reminisce about such a tiny fraction of what once was.
Im 39 years old and spent alot of time here. When you first walked into pirates fun park to the left was the oddesey big yellow dome. The himalaya was i believe to the right, right before the bumper cars. Then all the way back dead center was the fireball. Behind the haunted ride were the bumper boats. I loved it when they had ferris Wheel facing the ocean. Sad, it will never be the same. Also blue ocean music hall used to be an arcade and bumper cars inside, parking across from blue ocean had a haunted house and i think mini golf course. I remember they had the wwf wrestling shows next to the discount store on christys side. 😢
The original "Broadway Flying Horses" Carousel building was located between Cable Ave and Railroad Ave where it intersects Broadway. It was a yellow painted wood structure that housed the carousel and also had a small I believe boat kiddie ride.. The entrance to the original Dodgems and Roller coaster were just up the road right after Sweet Willys candy/ice cream shop. The section of rides you went to and remember was called Pirates Fun Park. It did house the original Hymalaya from Shaheens Fun-O-Rama park (which is now the parking lot to the left of Blue Ocean).
Dude you should check out how it was really far back , was a major amusement park back then! Also the stage comes back every year as well as the entertainment, take your son in the summer and let him see and hear your old stories. “I feel pretty” filmed the dive bar beauty contest and the hot dog scene etc there, check it out!
Idk if anybody remembers this or not, but I was going into the Navy that fall, (sadly I didn't make it out of boot camp, medical ,) one night Gary asked me "in the Navy you're gonna have to get wet, right?" I was the one that like 3 people pried me away from the stage lol and threw me in the water. That was a great night, it was also so fun. 😁
IM 59 I USED TO GO FROM 6 YEARS OLD TO 14. I REMEMBER THE PLACE HAD 3 DARK RIDES. WITCHES CASTLE. PIRATES COVE. THE FUN HOUSE AND MIRROR MAZE. I REMEMBER ROLLER COASTER OVER BAR AND DOGMIN CARS. I REMEMBER HIMILAYA. BUBBLE BOUNCE. THE HIPPERDROME LARGE MERRY GO ROUND. YES THERE WAS SMALL ONE IN PLAY LAND. MY MOM AND DAD WOULD LEAVE US IN THERE FOR HOURS. THOSE WERE DAYS. I REMEMBER GIANT SLIDE. BEHIND THE ROLLER COASTER. ITS NOW ON UTUBE. WACKY SHACK IN. 1972. YOUR RIGHT SOME ONE NEEDS TO INVEST IN THESE PLACES BRING IT BACK TO ONCE WAS. EVEN. HULL MASS OR REVERE. I TS SHAME MASS SO CORUPTED THEY DONT HAVE ONE PARK. TO GO TWO. THE ONLY STATE I KNOW. WORST ON RECRATION.
The mirror maze I went with my dad when I was 6. I screamed so loud cuz I was so scared my mom could hear me outside and said she was about to run in there and save me. She was so scared. She said she would've driven the car inside to get me out. She was more scared hearing me scream than I was. I've never forgot that and I've never gone in a mirror maze again and I'm 49 now. God I miss that place! Nice to see others that remember how fun that place used be when we were kids.
@@boicrazee JOHN THANKS FOR MEMORY OF THAT MIRROR MAZE. IT HAD NO LIGHT BUT OUTSIDE WITH JESTER. AND FAT LADY LOOKED LIKE MY GRANMOTHER. NANA MAG. IT WAS UNDER ROLLER COASTER. I REMEMBER SEEIN BLOND KID GO IN ALONE. IT NEVER HAD CROWD. IT BE SITTEN BY ITS SELF. YOU MUST WENT IN NIGHT TIME. YOUR MOM WAS LIKE MY MOM. I WENT IN IT NEEDED SWEEPEN I WAS ABOUT 8 OR 9. I USED TO PONDER IT LED TWO DARK TUNNEL ROOM IN THE BACK I DID NOT KNOW TO TAKE IT SO I WALK OUT OF MAZE. THERE WAS NO ONE TO ASK. REALLY STRANGE WERE WOULD IT GONE TWO ? PROBALLY EXIT TO SIDE OF COASTER. I ALLSO REMEMBER STOOL IN FRONT IN CLOSET TYPE ROOM WITH RIPPED CUSHION. THERE FUN HOUSE WAS GREAT WITH CLOWN ON TOP BUT WAS VERY DARK WAS AFRAID TO GO IN IT. I REGRET IT TODAY. MY DAD WAS GOING TO TAKE ME IN REMEMBER ASKEN TEEN TICKET GUY HE SAID IT IS DARK. IT WAS LAST BEST FUNHOUSES LEFT. I DID DO PIRATE COVE NEXT TWO IT THAT WAS BETTER THEN DISNEY WORLD. PIRATES. BOTH BUILDENS BLEW DOWN FROM HURRICANE 1973. I BELIEVE. THEN CAME WACKY SHACK BOY I REMEMBER GIANT SLIDE LIKE BANNANA SPLITS. MONKEES TIME. MY DAD HATED HIGHTS HE SAY PUT RUG DOWN GO LOL STOP TALKEN.
Cool but sad walkthrough. Back in the 70s and 80s my family would spend a week or so there spending the change we would save up throughout the year. Back then there was so much to do. I wanted to comment because you were questioning the reason for the Castle above Happy's fried dough. I worked at the beach from the early to mid 90s running an icecream stand and doing the legwork for a weekly sockhop that was held every Saturday night when in season. The castle was originally much less impressive but the theme of the entire building. The owner of happy's lived above the store and for whatever reason decided to make the entire building a real attention grabber. And it worked. This was back in the early 90's when Pirate's Fun Park was still up and running he added a third floor to the building and that much better looking exterior was added. Check out ua-cam.com/video/P6V4uuQO3rM/v-deo.html to see it pre renovation and some other gone but not forgotten attractions. You are right, it was the Himalaya, before that on that exact spot was the Space Odyssey which was an enclosed scrambler ride. Along the backside of the buildings was a fun house, Viking Ship, and a few others. The rollercoaster at one point was named "Mouse Trap" and that area was loaded with skill games, bumper boats, those bumper cars, the Matterhorn, a haunted house ride... Now a parking lot. I gotta go out there before there is nothing left. Thanks for the walk through! Gave me a smile.
I remember going there in the 60's there was a slot car track . I bought 2 cars . Across the street was the roller coaster .
Thanks for watching.
