First 3 Journey albums are GOLD. Gregg Rolie on vocals and a very progressive sound. Then Perry joined. Over.

I don’t know.. I thought Infinity, that first album with Perry, was good… before they sold out for corporate sponsorship and arena ballad rock. Wheel in The Sky, Lights… it has some good songs.

Journey would have been over without Perry? Their label was going to drop them. Thanks to Perry the had success. Why did Schon search the internet looking for a sound alike/look alike when Perry left? They currently have 2 singers on tour to sing what Perry sang/wrote/co-wrote their most famous money making songs.

@@fenderchamp8241 well, like him or not, he singlehandedly saved the band. They were about to be toast. Pretty sure Schon feels the same way these days... so much so they had to hire sound alikes to keep it afloat ever since.

It's funny that most of the people sayign Journey ended or sold out when Perry joined, probbaly didn't even know that era until they discovered it later. They were a hard band to discover back then, no radio hits.

YES, FINALLY A REACTION TO SOME REAL JOURNEY!!! Singer, organist Gregg Rollie was the original singer. Steve Perry joined and he sang less, then ended up leaving the band in 1980. Gregg Rolie was also the original singer, keyboardist in Santana (that's him at Woodstock). Journey guitarist Neal Schon also played in Santana. They left Santana and formed Journey. Bassist Ross Valory played with Steve Miller. The great Aynsley Dunbar was on drums (John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, David Bowie, Frank Zappa and the Mothers, and later on Whitesnake and UFO).

Ahhhhh the early Proggy days of Journey. I always preferred this era of Journey with Greg Rollie on lead vocals. They had some good tunes in the Steve Perry era. But the early stuff is the best.

I'm so glad someone finally is diving into early Journey. Keyboardist Gregg Rolie was the singer on the first 3 albums before Steve Perry joined the band. I like the Steve Perry stuff too, but this song is one of my favorites by them. They were more progressive rock in the early days.

Welcome to the DARK SIDE, we are so happy you are hear. You know have 4 albums to go through(Including the Japanese Movie Soundtrack of Journey "Dream After Dream }which does have a very little Perry on it, but is still the classic Journey , so much so it was hidden from the North American market for two decades, as the teeny boppers would of lost their minds.

Ok how many were waiting, waiting waiting, for that look, for those who had no idea. And then it was there. This is Journey, and What the F^&K is this, followed by complete astonishment as Aynsley just rips up the place, and then Neal goes off against the haunting organ. DAMN, welcome to the True Journey Club.

This is my favorite Journey song - thanks for posting! I was stationed near the Bay Area in the early to mid 1970s and every concert I went to had this new prog band Journey opening the show. When Journey was just starting out in 1973, finding "gigs" was not easy for a new San Francisco based band. In the Fall of 1973, before their first album "Journey" released in 1975. I saw them perform in a small dining hall on the campus of the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. They brought ALL of their audio equipment. The speakers were stacked floor to ceiling and out to the walls on both sides of the small stage. The audience was not more than 200 people. Blew us all away!! Guitarist Neal Schon, what can I say...One of the best and most underrated guitarist of our time...Journey would (should) have remained a jazz-influenced progressive rock band to further the "Prog-Rock" genre, had it not been for the more profitable "Pop-Rock" influence of Steve Perry. From then on it was just so many pop tunes to sell records, and Neal took a back seat. Too bad. Don't get me wrong...I like their "Pop" vocal tunes...But I LOVE progressive rock...(Yes, ELP, Genesis, etc.)...Saw them all back in their early days. I just wish that band I saw at the dining hall in '73 had remained in the progressive rock genre of those times. Ahh...what could have been...

This was the best album in my opinion that journey did. It's also in my opinion one of the greatest debut albums that was ever recorded. It was Neal's chance to shine having just left Santana with rollie to form Journey. It was him stepping out of Carlo's shadow saying look what I can do. His playing on this album is superb, flawless and jaw dropping, I would definitely put his playing on this up against Page's, Clapton's and Blackmore. Most he did, if not all of the solos were one takes. Check out Nickel and dime from next. You won't believe what your hearing

Good reaction. I know Journey had been successful throughout the decades, but the first Journey is what I relate to. I remember in 1975 just bumming around SF Mission District and this song comforted me somehow. It was all over the radio waves. Then I found out that Neil Schon and Gregg Rollie left Santana and formed Journey. No wonder the guitar licks are so DEVASTATING!!!. And Ross V. the bass player advised me and my Dad to pick the Fender Telecaster Thin line not the white Stratocaster.
