From Season 2, Episode 4 'Edith Writes A Song' Edith writes a poem and gets a letter from a company that wants to turn it into a song for only $30. Archie buys a "dog alarm" and a gun to protect the house all for only $60. The family gets into an argument over which is more important and Archie agrees to give the gun back. That night two burglars, who have just robbed a jewelry store, break into the house and hold the Bunkers hostage until the heat is off. At one point, the thief threatens to take off with the $30 but Edith talks him out of it by offering to sing the song. After hearing her sing, they decide that the Bunkers are in such sad shape that it would be cruel to rob them. The next day Archie reads in the newspaper that the crooks were arrested, and Mike reveals that he fixed the dog alarm by replacing it with Edith's singing.

God, I miss the 70s so much I wanna cry! 😢 I just loved this show! I learned the actors that can convince you of the characters they play are the opposite in real life. Jean and Carroll were wonderful actors because they were nothing like these characters.

Mike had alot of free time, he should have worked and he was also not very appreciative of the way he did not have to pay for anything!
Mike sure a lot of free time, for someone whose studies prevented him from working.
In college, I worked part time on campus in an office staffed by tutors in graduate programs. About half of them were older and married but they still managed to juggle their responsibilities for a couple of years.
The Meathead is a lazy sort of person. He could have worked part time!

I distinctly remember Archie once saying he was of the belief that Mike would be in school for about a year to learn a trade. Either he lied or those kids grossly misled him about Mike pursuing a bachelor's degree.
He did work at a gas station to pay Archie back for the money he gave to McGovern's campaign. Knowing the Meathead, he'd lecture to customers for driving gas guzzling cars

Which? Edith's song being accepted for $30 or Archie's save your home alarm system or both? LOL!
The $30 handling fee.
Each preyed on different emotions: people's hopes (the song) and people's fears (the recorded barking dog). Those magazine classifieds were embarrassing or laughable, at times, and promised too much. One of those modeling schools was sued for false claims.
That sounds like Barney Heffner's dog to me!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
