      I love their song also. My pairs start singing very early in the morning right before the sun comes up.

      Thankyou. I love zebra finches they are such bold little birds. Ive been looking for a pair of white zebra finches to add to the aviary. Hopefully I can find some soon.

    Hi, I was wondering if you were able to band these chicks. The nest looked quite difficult to reach. Also I can imagine the parents are more likely to toss the chicks when you do so.

      Hi Jean yes i was able to band them. What i do for species that are more likely to toss is I wait till the chick fledges the nest and band them that same day. Usually some species like red billed fire finch chicks will be able to accept same size band, but with strawberries If you wait till they fledge you have to band them one size up. So original band size for them is (2.1mm) while in the nest or (2.4mm) after they fledge.

      @@paradiseaviary Thank you for the response. At this moment I have Diamond firetail chicks that I was not able to band, they will fledge soon. I normally band them with 2.7 mm but I also have 3.2mm available (for java finches). Do you think that will work when I band them with these bigger rings when they fledge? Or is this size too big?

    • @paradiseaviary
      @paradiseaviary  3 роки тому +1

      That should be perfect for them for the diamonds I usually band in the nest Ive never banded that species after they fledge but 3.2 is the next size up and should slip right up their back toe. Just make sure you band the same day they fledge if you wait 2 or 3 days their bones in the toes get harder and the back toe will not bend back far enough to allow the ring to pass.

      That sucks..... Are they in a cage alone or with other birds ? maybe they were disturbed or just new breeders. Hopefully next round theyll sit and finish the job.
