Seems odd, I've done a lot of motorcycle brakes but never mtb, I almost always do the "reverse bleed" method where in that case there is an open reservoir at the "lever" end, so similar to this you use a syringe but only to push fluid from the caliper end then use another to suck the old fluid out, we would NEVER push the fluid both ways the whole point is to remove all the old fluid, also air wants to go up, so why fight it by pushing the fluid back down?
As a motocycle guy I also wondered, but I think because of the very low volume of fluid in the bicycle you can more or less exchange the whole fluid in a stroke of a syringe. Also isn't possible anyway at the motobike bc can't use the syringe at the master cyclinder. If possible, maybe It also would be done like this at motobikes. But that just what came to my mind :D
@@andrean_7725 Yea that makes sense. With the open reservoir you can only push fluid one way on a motorcycle. I've seen other methods on MTB that use a cup on the top or just a hose without a syringe and only pushes one way
DOT 5.0 is mineral (silicone) and is tinted in a soft pink color so that it is not confused in the workshop, and DOT 5.1 is synthetic (not silicone) and starting from DOT 3 and 4 it has a light amber color. Both synthetics and mineral have the abbreviation DOT. The author does not know???
DOT-5 is not a mineral oil. You are correct that it is a silicone based fluid. Mineral oil is a hydrocarbon based oil. You cannot run DOT-5 in mineral oil brakes.
Dot 3,4 and 5.1 are polyglycol based and they are hygroscopic (they absorb moisture overtime) but silicone based 5 doesn't absorb water just like mineral oil. Anything but dot 5 is stupid for bikes, especially 5.1 which is the most hygroscopic brake fluid since you'll never need the superior boiling point or 5.1 in normal conditions...
thanks now I convinced shimano will be my next brake 👍
Can the Maxima mineral oil be used in Shimano brakes?
Safety first then team work
How can I bleed the new Sram Maven brakes?

That method is fairly common for other brands. SRAM likes this method.
