You know what's embarrassing? A livelier crowd, less phones and a better atmosphere for the band here than at an actual metal festival. Well done to these people.
True, i just saw gojira with slipknot in scranton, everyone went nuts for slipknot, but gojira, not much movement. I learned from the handful of metal shows i went to, everyone saves their energy for the headliners.
EDM and jam festivals really are a whole other world man. I've been an avid metal head my entire life but I absolutely love raving and going to festivals. I about shit myself when I saw Gojira on the Bonnaroo lineup
Hahhaa a couple right in front of me did the same thing at Knotfest a couple weeks ago. Next thing we all know we see the same inflatable whale being tossed around down at the pit.
Bro i feel you so hard. I mean they defenetly deserve being the new metallica and more. But they have this underhround vibe that also belongs to them so much. I fell you
@Matttwoaf08 id hate that to happen. And it would suck if this created a bunch of poser metalheads like "oh yeah I know about gojira Im such a metalhead I love metal"
They are kinda huge now (international at least). First time I saw them was in France during the From Mars To Sirius tour in 2005, in a relatively tiny venue packed with 600 french metalheads ;)
I love Gojira. I waited for 12 hours in front of the stage waiting for them. I firstly see Christian watching at me and he waved me back his horns. I was so fucking happy. That was my best concert ever. And they was through Pantera and Slayer playing. I absolutely loved them
I saw gojira at open air in Chicago and it was a pretty cool performance. Then I saw them open for Volbeat at knotfest and their mix sounded so damn good and they were so tight. I love this band honestly. One of my favorites now.
Crazy, didn't expect people to enjoy Gojira in that kind of festival. They're not your usual middle ground metal band type, it's great! Hopefully metal will be more socially accepted
I’m pretty sure Bonnaroo has had plenty of metal bands play before. It’s probably just rare or they have very few, considering it’s more of a pop/alternative festival.
THATS ME AT 4:05! still to me the best set at roo this year, being a metalhead and seeing people go ape shit for the only metal band at roo was amazing! One of the best nights of my life
Crazy how I haven't seen NOT ONE hate comment about them being at a hippie festival. But go to a video of them at a metal music festival & there's all kinds of hate.
@Horror From Below I’m gonna have to agree with you there. Every video performance of Gojira at a metal festival, I’ve seen nothing but positive comments and praise. If anything, most negative comments on Gojira come from non-metalheads who brush them off as “just another loud satanic band” without even listening to a single note. At least in my experience that’s happened.
I’ll give Gojira a couple more albums (as long as they continue with the vibe of the last album) and they will be one of the biggest metal bands on the planet.
@@levailnaik962 I saw a recent interview and Joe said they've been in the studio recording (a hundred/many tracks) haven't heard when but I'm still excited! 🤘
NOTHING beats a metal show. I've been to hip hop shows, 4 raves and rock and country shows. Absolutely NOTHING compares to metal live. Metal is the TRUTH and Gojira are fantastic
Metal is slowly getting back to the mainstream crowd. With that crowd going nuts with Lamb of God in 2016 and Gojira in 2019, Bonnaroo will have more Metal (hopefully).
Yeah hopefully they can finally put real metal bands in the future but yeah those watered down dumb downed bands are helping for that to happen I have to admit.
been a metal head for 27 years now and going and of all the bands I have seen live Gojira is definitly in my top 3 bands as a live band, they kill it...always!
This Gojira set was SO much fun. I saw BTBAM at Roo in 2015, and surprisingly it was my best experience seeing them live. Something about roo gets everyone hyped up for metal bands even if they've never listened to them before. It's wild.
I remember when they were at Bonnaroo and that same year they came back to Manchester for Exit 111 and I was up close for Gojira. Best show of my life. I'm planning to see them again when they come to Nashville with Deftones next year. And Gojira has been my favorite band since high school and I'm 26 now and I listen to them everyday
Gojira is so fucking dope.. Music like Gojira have helped me evolve. Much blessings to all! Cant wait to see them at Aftershock in October... im going to headbang my head off.
Saw U guys at knotfest....went to knotfest specifically for U guys....Slipknot was awesome as well and been a fan of Knot for ever now but was looking forward to U Gojira!!!!🤘
@@yrmthr ive seen em both as well and give Meshuggah the nod lol..they've been doing it since the mid 90s and the fact they're still that precise just blows my mind. No wrong answer here though..Cheers! Oh and Fear Inoculum is fuckin incredible as a side note
I went to Bonnaroo 2019 with a buddy of mine from high school who only listens to EDM and rap but is always down to try new things, I convinced him to take a break from the EDM stage and go to Gojira with me and not only was it the craziest set there that weekend but he ended up loving it. It’s almost impossible to hate Gojira

I was really impressed with this crowd

Lamb of God was there in 2016. And it was insane!
But for every head theres a poser

@@BendyDH i mean its fine as long as they dont confuse "death metal" which started in the 80s and leads up to LoG, for metalcore.
That big blue inflatable whale was MINE!!! HAHAAA!!! What a set boys!!!! \m/
A flying whale at a Gojira show!! How appropriate :D
Someone had the same idea at Hellfest this year. It was very fun to see it being pushed around on "flying whales"
The flood on earth again
I have to find the whales

To dry lands of life
Hahhaa a couple right in front of me did the same thing at Knotfest a couple weeks ago. Next thing we all know we see the same inflatable whale being tossed around down at the pit.
I smacked the fuck out of that whale when it came near me. It was the highlight of the festival
Makes you wonder what people did when Meshuggah played Bonnaroo in 2014.
DefThrone hahah no way? That’s awesome.
I can vouch for "instantly shit pants" lol,,, i remember going just for them, and when they opened up the crowd went APE SHIT
What did they open with?
Dry7123 future breed machine if I remember correctly!
I can tell you we stagehands were going ape shit while the hippies were unsure what they were hearing but went apeshit too.
Gojira the biggest little secret ever!! … Part of me wants them to become super huge and the other part of me doesn't want to share …

They are kinda huge now (international at least). First time I saw them was in France during the From Mars To Sirius tour in 2005, in a relatively tiny venue packed with 600 french metalheads ;)
The inflatable whale is basically a must in a gojira concert. Love it
Flying whales!
And this is why GOJIRA rules.
Gojira live is one of the greatest music experience ever.
One of the tightest bands out. Their live sound engineers are AMAZING.
Random girl: I have never listend to metal music because I like slow sad shit
Doom metal: am I a joke to you?
Yep, doom metal is a joke to everybody
Bummer alert
I like this because it shows people who don't listen to metal, how much fun a metal show is.
I love Gojira. I waited for 12 hours in front of the stage waiting for them. I firstly see Christian watching at me and he waved me back his horns. I was so fucking happy. That was my best concert ever. And they was through Pantera and Slayer playing. I absolutely loved them
Rock the castle?
Jean-Michel rocking the Zeal & Ardor shirt. Love it
I just noticed that. Very sweet.
Awesome to see Gojira manage to get on a lineup like this, they're such a special group of guys
They deserve it and much more. Such a good group of humans.
It's so ironic that the alternative kids are going way crazier for Gojira than any of the people at the Slipknot shows they opened at.
Doesn't surprise me that much tbh.
I saw them in Phoenix opening for Slipknot and people went crazy lighting stuff on fire and everything.
I saw gojira at open air in Chicago and it was a pretty cool performance. Then I saw them open for Volbeat at knotfest and their mix sounded so damn good and they were so tight. I love this band honestly. One of my favorites now.
I went to the Chicago Knotfest show and I can safely say people went fuckin crazy over Gojira, myself included.
Bc Slipknot is trailer park metal

Bonnaroo never had metal bands? Damn good thing gojira came.
They've had metal before. I saw Dillinger Escape Plan there.
Morbid Apple lamb of god played there too a while ago
I saw GWAR and Opeth there almost a decade ago
Well made myself look fucking stupid didn't I.
I’m pretty sure Bonnaroo has had plenty of metal bands play before. It’s probably just rare or they have very few, considering it’s more of a pop/alternative festival.

It’s because metalheads are fucking elitists. It’s why although I love metal I also don’t like being labeled a metalhead.
bonaroo isnt a hippie festival and hasnt been for a long time lol
@Horror From Below oh it's EXTREMELY rare. But my comment just went for any band in general.
Elitist metal heads are the worst!!
