i hate how puririka acted in this situation, she makes tutorials how to draw in her style, then gets mad when people draw in her style? horrible.
Yeah it reminded me of that one interior designer drama where one person posted videos explicitly saying that anyone could take inspiration from their pieces (or copy, I don't quite remember) and got mad when another person took inspiration from their pieces
Fr it’s like posting a cooking recipe and being mad that people are following it
Yeahh,,, you can normally request people not copy/take heavy inspo from your style, but if youre posting tutorials on how YOU draw people are going to copy it. Thats how tutorials work. So you cant really post tutorials on your style and then get mad at people for following them
You cant own a style @@3starsburningbright
@@3starsburningbrightalso her bio has “dont copy/reference my drawings” like im sorry but who do u think u are😭😭 its a generic art style, you post tutorials, people who wants to learn this art style will try to take inspo from ur art

Fr. She’s dumb and toxic 🤦♀️
I gotta say, a few months ago Riri was also banned from everskies (dress up and blogging type game, she designed items for it under the name purio, and had a large platform there as well) for posting a screenshot of her telling a hate commenter from TikTok to k!ll themself?? It was so strange...like, why are you proud of that ☹☹
BYE I LOVE EVERSKIES IM GLAD SHE ISNT TAKING UP SPACE THERE
i remember that bro like shes been weird and then she ws all like im never going back there everyones so sensitive like thats an app intended for kids ofc they arent gonna like that shit slide this isnt twitter or smth.. ur a whole ass 18 year old!!
Unrelated to the whole drama but tbh I can see why she designed on ES, the art style for the avatars is pretty similar to the jelly artstyle!!
Dude, yes I remember that! And then she went to TikTok going "lmao and I would do it again!! Is not a bit deal, fuck all my haters!!!"
I literally hold nothing but contempt for Purio
EVERSKIES IS A HELLHOLE AND I LOVE IT (I recognized this oml)
i think the art community has been getting way too possessive lately, like even the slightest similarities between styles are immediately criticized and called out, except it's always the smaller account that receives the backlash.
That's why I love artists who don't have/inforce copyright. I swear, all of these people must be very young, since they don't know there is no such thing as originality in art.
@@milamila1123 Commercial artists enforce copyright, it's the whole point of copyright laws. Style is not copyrightable. Carrying about a 13 year old tracing your work though, like just because a potential law has been broken doesn't mean you should waste your time pursuing it. Disney definitely wouldn't waste time going after a 13 year old. This whole influencer artist thing gives the art community a bad name. Most commercial artists are just like lawyers, plumbers, etc. We provide a skill to clients or studios and get paid for it.
its just been getting bad tbh
I wish I could say this was new but back in the late2000s/early 2010s, I remember a kawaii artist with a very common style on deviantart sent her entire fan base after an artist who was also a kawaii artist. Nearly every kawaii artist on the site had similar styles and the bigger artist was just going after smaller artists because they could.
obviously you weren’t on tumblr and deviantart back in 2013-2018 bc it was actually so bad back then, the stuff going on rn cannot compare
I’ve never understood why artists make all these drawing tutorials but get so pissy abt ppl actually using them like 💀 that’s literally the point of an art tutorial
puririka could've been more respectful of the way she confronted the artist, even if they did actually trace her work. it's funny that she makes tutorials on how to draw the way she does and gets mad at someone for following them 💀💀
I'm pretty sure they didn't even trace.. 💀 she can't be mad when she draws like the same thing over and over again... All her drawings look the same, same angle, same face syndrome ect.. 💀💀
because she doesn't make tutorials to share knowledge. she makes them to say "look how good i am."
@@phangkuanhoong7967 she could just post speedpaints but since shitty tutorials are the bread and butter of TikTok I imagine she also gets off on the "omg tell me I'm so helpful, I'm so good, I'm so generous!!"
While generally being the kind of person that sends death threats at any kind of pushback.
Honestly there was no reason to confront the artist at all. They are just a kid, no adult needs to dm a kid about art, it's just uncalled for.
i dont think its that big of a deal. we get it, she handled the situationed badly whatever. the situation was so blown out for no reason, influencers always do this but when its an artist suddenly its bad. the 13yr old artist did get hate (im not saying they deserved it but posting heavily referenced art without credit is wrong) but yall are acting like puririka is the supervillain of the art community. comparing her to other problamatic artists like kooleen is crazy. not defending her but still, what she did was dumb but shes not a bad person for that
Riri: Hey I made a tutorial on how to draw in my style

the art is so generic and emotionless tho (critical view not hating), thats my opinion. (pls don’t attack me, i just don’t really like the jelly art style, furthermore my intension is not to harass her. also i don’t support puririka.) (and yes i’m very sensitive since i got harassed as an artist and as a critic.)
@@h1ghtide_era yeah, the art style is boring and emotionless, but the rendering is really clean and the proportions are balanced. It also makes sense that they would go for such a generic art style, there's a ton of tutorials for it and it gets views. They are 13 so it would be cool to see how they grow if they're still in the community (sorry if this sounded harsh, English is not my first language lol)(but I really hope this specific hyper rendered generic art style goes out of fashion quickly)
@@h1ghtide_erai mean, realism is also a pretty generic artstyle, i dont see anyone complaining. Maybe its because this one is more.. specific to the person who started it?
isnt this the same person who replied to someones comment about how the art style is overrated to "kys" then posted it on everskies (her account was purio), got banned and said that telling someone to off themselves wasn't a big deal then liked a comment saying "if they do then skill issue"? damn

can't you go to jail for threatening someone to go kts and they actually do it?? that will be the skill issue for her.
@@davestriderenthusiast no not really maybe if they died it would be suspicious but not really

i'm a musician and if a thirteen yo was copying my shit i would be _so_ complimented. people make art by copying and it takes a while to evolve and merge those different styles into your own style and kids generally haven't had that time. i cannot conceive of what goes through someone's mind to make them try and expose a thirteen year old for plagiarism that's wild
yeah, once i sent some drawings and paintings to an exposition and it was rly sweet seeing the pics of some girls copying the simpler painting. they were also on their early teens and it was nice that some simple art made somebody feel like they can do it too, they were giving a try to expressing themselves and to me thats what its all about
not defending paprika in any way but people will take things differently ; riri has the right 2 b mad but she didn’t have to go to the extent that she did go to
@@froyoberryshe doesnt own the jelly art style and i dont see why she should be mad because she posted tutorials so she should expect that people would use it and implement it on their own work, the only thing similar with the 13 year old artist and puririka art is the big glossy lips and giant shiny eyes which are very generic
arttok has quickly become a hellscape and i left when i started seeing VIRAL tiktoks hating on the jelly art style and artists who did it for no reason...

Can I also say, for being ONLY 13, that artist is insanely talented? I hope the kid is able to keep going with art. They’re going places!

"Objection that's cap your honor" god I'm stealing that. Wait no sorry I'm taking inspiration from that (stealing).
4:18 this is exactly how i feel especially as i’ve gotten older. imitation is one of the best forms of flattery! of course there’s a point where harm could be done if people are taking your work and profiting directly off of it, but if a young artist is trying to draw more like an older artist, theres hardly much downside for both artists in that sense. art style discourse has happened for literal YEARS and yet we’re here again, and it’s on tiktok rather than someplace like instagram and I’m already so over it lmao
agree 100%, esp since in my experience artists at 13, even super talented, dont tend to have the most cemented personal style yet so even if theyre copying one style a lot theyll probably "grow out of it" and develop their own touch to it later!
That's so real! In elementary I had a friend that would always ask me to "sketch" and she'd "trace"(do the lineart) because she liked how *I* draw, and I loved doing it for her 😭
I agree. My artstyle is inspired by my favorite mangakas and it's because I like their works so much.
It's not like I'm passing myself off as them or claiming their work as mine. I genuinely dig their works.
I think what’s even more annoying about this situation, is instead of being concerned about a popular artist sending their fans to harass people for having a similar style to their’s, people are more worried about how “the style isn’t even that good anyway” and how “ugly” the style is even though that’s not the focus rn
I get it, everyone has an opinion on an art style but I think there’s bigger things to worry about then being able to “confess” to not like the “Jelly Art” style 🙄
Honestly if a 13 year old managed to mimic my artstyle Id be super impressed. Since it took me uhh 18 plus years to get to my style
To be fair, it's much easier to mimic an already existing art style than it is to create your own + develop it further.
Though her art is impressive regardless.
@@cantdecideausername8584 I think its also the start of how you learn to form your own style tbh. Because you have to learn the way others do line weight, colour etc. And then you slowly find what you like and what you want to work towards
not influencers getting mad when they INFLUENCE 🙄
Well said
I always love how rin talks
This whole art community drama made me paranoid to even post a single art study inspired by an artist without clearly including their name..tagging them and so...
I even wanted to make some stickers with my art that was just an entry of mine from another artist's dtiys but i asked her privately first if its OK for me to print it and whether or not mention it was inspired by her.. fortunately it was all easy she said i could just mention her name if i ever sell them and thats all.
Thank you.
As long that you credit where credit is due you'll be alright! I Actually credit photographers when I used their images as a ref or inspo :) That's me though.
@adrianisawaffle_738 exactly! Since we know that all happens because of not crediting the original creator of something we try to avoid the problem by appropriate crediting! That makes thing easier and less chaotic 👍
the way that she handled this is childish as HELL.
and to anyone to make fun of and mass report- a 13 year old??????? my fucking god can we end this year in peace bro 😭
2:43 its even worse because the kids drawing objectively looks better.
its obvious they were inspired but they have the speedpaint to prove they didnt just 1-1 it.... plus they're... you know... a child????
but they clearly put a lot more effort into the rendering process than the original 💀
I've never quite understood the whole "don't make your own versions of my work" thing... it seems pretty gate-keepey and elitist.
It makes me think back to Michelangelo, and the greats, everyone in those eras all took reference off eachother... that was like the whole point of art apprenticeship
like sure don't yoink somebody's shit and pass it off as your own but if you're inspired by my work, that's an incredible thing.
I honestly feel a sense of pride when people use my work as inspiration, it proves i'm doing something that meant something to somebody.
we're supposed to be inspiring the next gens not ridiculing and demeaning them.
4:19 THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING LMAO
you summed it up perfectly 🙏🏻
I think that "dont make your versions of my work" usually targetted to those artists who black/whitewashed, or simply 'edited' an artist's original work and said "i dont like the original so i made my own version"
I will never understand someone making tutorials on how to do something and then getting mad at people for doing exactly that.
They never make "tutorials", they just want to show off (which is fine but omg don't lose your shit when someone actually attempts to use said style)

im very early into the vid but, does anyone remember in the 2010s, and definitely earlier - artists were soo supportive of other artists and ESPECIALLY beginners. the idea of ganging up on a young, new artist, would have been simply out of the question. idk what caused this change, but I absolutely hate it - its rife on twitter too
its all because of tiktok And how easy it was to develop/spread toxic personalities on there, i swear
@@oxxn111 I disagree it is because of tiktok. In the late 2010's we had this wave of people making fun of "cringe" art on UA-cam. Just remembered all the Sans fangirls compilations or the old Solar Sans videos giving "advice", there was another guy that also did similar videos to Solar Sans about deviantart and he was even more useless than Solar Sans, because there was no advice at all.
That's not very new at all.
@@lordarthur2165 you’re right, i forgot about that era
@@oxxn111 I think people are still perpetuating this "cringe art" mindset of late 2010's UA-cam. Especially because a lot of the children that went through it are now adults. It could be easy to imagine that the people that are around my age (+/- 20) probably internalised those things and are being mean to beginner artists too.
And I agree that Tik Tok doesn't help either, cyberbullying is so common there, it's one of the reasons I don't use it at all.
It's because solar sands couldn't stop bitching about his distaste in beginner art and some of us thought it was entertaining
WELCOME BACK RIN!!! It's been a while since I've seen a video of yours. Happy to be a blind mole.
What people are doing is awful though, a piece of art should not be hated on solely for how it looks (atleast, what I've heard other people are doing about the jelly artsyle) Ngl, more artists and people in general need to learn how to handle things privately without posting to twitter and TikTok.

the jelly artstyle is so popular rn and purika is the main inspo for it and she can’t expect someone not to want to draw like that. humalitating a person like that no matter what age is not ok
Even if she felt the artist stole her art in some aspect (which they didn't), girl let it go. It's a kid learning art and sharing it. As an adult, publicly or privately personally messaging a kid about an art style is weird and unnecessary.

i’m going to guess this riri girl has a huge ego and cult-like fans. a similar thing happened to me a few years ago and that person used their large audience to send me tons of hate because i “plagiarized.” when ppl get to a certain level they think they can do whatever they want. she was probably this kid’s fav artist, but now the poor kid probably won’t draw or post their art again because she hated on them.
i love the ace attorney joke
i understand the concept of intellectual property and everything but like.. imagine if i uploaded a tutorial on how to build a table, and *a CHILD* build that table. and instead of being amazed and impressed over a 13 yr old building that table i just got really mad that they built myyy table. like????
Because of this whole situation, I think people are starting to believe "stealing art styles" is a thing, cause I saw a tiktok basically saying that... like hasn't every artist learned that it isn't a thing....
I mean, all artists typically copy drawings they like when starting out. Then, as we improve, we develop our own style and methods. This culture in the art community of going after beginners is so toxic and dumb.
I think I actually start tweaking when people get mad at someone for inspiration or reference. I can maybe understand like, ‘close’ referencing i guess but it’s just. Incredibly hypocritical, as if an artists art-style isn’t basically a Frankenstein of elements of art the individual particularly likes (which they would’ve most likely got… FROM ANOTHER ARTIST! SHOCKER!). I remember when I was younger tagging someone in a discord saying I was inspired by them, and then they told me to never take inspiration without permission (???) and accused me of stealing their oc. They had posted a free colour palette to use that they used for their dog oc, i made a dog oc as well with that colour palette.
Woof, going on a tangent here but it’s a shame cause riri’s art isn’t bad, like at all. She’s young, and maybe a bit lacking in how she handles situations but, sort of just sad to the tiktok community collectively put down that sort of art style she has to lift there own. Sometimes I wish the tt art community was a little boxing bag so I could punt it whenever it spouts out these debacles
Something similar happened to me kinda like it wasn’t even art it was a comment of their art with my broken English and the artist got so offended that they spread it from tumblr to Twitter to get people to tell me my art was trash and to off myself 💀💀 I was baffled cause I was 14 and I thought people on their twenties were emotionally mature, they are crybabies this behavior hasn’t change at all it gets even stronger I even asked another big artist after I tried apologizing if it was truthfully that bad my comment and they reassured me it wasn’t, just that some artist are very sensible with their art
long ago i used to be part of facebook drawing groups and once someone traced my art and put it on their facebook cover
i got a bit angry, i opened his dms and i realized he had previously sent me a dm talking about this art (the original one) asking what program i used, and i noticed it was just a kid by the way he talked
i proceeded to dm the little dude saying his version of my artwork was pretty cool and he thanked me and asked for advice (i sent him art youtube channels)
from then on i just kinda realized that kids tracing my art is one of the higher forms of compliments one can get, i mean, you are literally being part of the first artistic influences of this kid and they will likely remember you forever. and although there are a lot of very famous kids on social media, the great majority of them have very small art accounts and a small art circle consisting of other kids who are beginners as well.
i think it's best to just be kind to them and remember that you also traced your favorite artworks when you were a kid because you genuinely liked them so much :)
this is such a chronically online problem, this is not a real problem lets be for real

Idk what’s with the Tiktok art community and taking this basis on “I’m gonna do it again!” Thing, it’s honestly a very corny response when being presented with something shitty that you probably shouldn’t be doing, but since accountability and holding yourself humble is basically a different language, they would rather double down than admit to doing something shitty once they have their loyal followers to give them gratification for their behavior, sometimes we really do make the wrong people popular man, it sucks, I hope anyone who’s been affected by her immature behavior is okay,
Well we cant really help it, artists are famous because their works are likeable, not because they have nice personality

its horrible, i cant believe ppl are doing this
I will never understand people gatekeeping a style. There’s only so much you can do to make your own style, that your’s will overlap eventually with someone else’s!
copying other artists art styles to some degree is literal how everyone is developing their own style. And also she's a vulnerable child, you should encourage her, not put her down. that's horrible behaviour.
ive seen asian artists with that jelly art style even way before puririka
exactly, it's obviously heavily referenced from those artists but god forbid someone heavily references hers 😭
Tbf it’s inspired by manwha so not that surprising
i feel like no matter the situation it is 100% your responsibility to Not Give A Shit about a13 year old doing something dumb on the internet. even if the drawing was a one to on recreation, its a kid. its ridiculously immature to pick a fight with a kid doing something wrong. if you care so much let them know gently you would like them to take it down (which also?? this situation doesn't even warrant that to me, this is a Nothingburger of a controversy) and if they say no you as a grown adult need to Move On. this shouldn't even be a situation, ridiculous to be this pressed about something so small, much less sending your large audience to attack a little kid. strange. peculiar. annoying. puririka is 18 and that is still young but she should absolutely know better, ridiculous behavior.
fr no one hates on children unless they're jealous of them. which i highly suspect was the case here
@ujlt7198 Considering the fact that she has a huge following and a popular art style, I'm guessing she has a big ego too which is what warranted her into thinking she's right for attacking a child
ngl this video made me think about my teacher and how mad he would get if we copied his work when he would demonstrate things and say stuff like "this is my work" like yeah?...but we copy it to get used to the hand movements and line weights etc.

This reminds me of the DIY drama where... someone made a DIY tutorial and then... got mad when someone used it to DIY. Um. Why make a tutorial, a thing meant to show people how to do things themself, and then get mad when people do it themselves? Hello! Ex mutual here!
I’d like to share some things I know about this situation.
Due to being her mutual at the time I got to see her more personal side. And I’m not defending her at all but I really feel like it would be wrong to not say what I know lmaooo
So Riri wasn’t really this mad and full of anger for most of her time on TikTok, it all went down hill once the jelly artstyle got popular. And because an artstyle is popular it means it must be hated on asap. So that’s where I saw her slowly responding to comments more bitter than she ever has. It honestly makes me sad bc she’s even admitted on her Insta stories that she has anger issues and has had trouble eating due to hate.
So I believe her bitterness comes from the jelly artstyle hate but also in my opinion it’s because of how much her fans worship her and it leads to a massive ego. I was a teacher in her server and seeing how the people in her server acted I realised really quickly who her fan base was.
Now i wasn’t close to riri by any means but I really want to express a problem I’ve seen come from this issue that no one is talking about and that’s her mutuals being hated on so badly it’s ruining their mental health. Now I unfollowed her bc I genuinely didn’t agree w what she did, but I really don’t agree with going after mutuals because? Mutuals doesn’t mean best friends? My and riri coincidently followed eachother and didn’t know it for a bit.
Edit: for the ppl who don’t understand what this comment is for, it’s for bias reasons. I’m simply giving you insight to riri as a person. You can’t be a commentator on an issue without both sides or else it’s bias hatred and that’s when you’re no better than the person you’re hating. Two wrongs don’t make a right guys. Hate is hate and if your made at Riri for hate, then turn your focus to not hating and help the victims in this situation. Like the poor 13yr old artist.
So ya that’s all I wanted to say
yes about the jelly art style, everyone just jumped on a whole hate train for it and people started making what i thought could be classified as "bullying" tiktoks basically ripping apart the art style and anyone who used the it for some reason...

I mean there are plenty of “artists” that do just trace others works. In this case though, Riri can’t just tell ppl to not heavily reference bc the style isn’t super unique (and style can’t be copyrighted) and neither is the composition. Nearly all her artworks have very simple, similar comps.
@@candyace I agree considering how much time goes into art and plus everyone replicates something that has been done before that is literally the whole point of art and its ashame some people don't realise that there art will inspire others it's for as long you don't blatantly steal art your all good
fr 😭 if i had a fanbase as huge as hers id never want my followers to harass a lit child as that's what got me into drawing. yes a 13y.o should know better but that's no reason to send them death threats, and in the end of the day they just look up at you and want to draw like you. if i found out a younger artist traced my work id just send a dm to them so we could sort things out and maybe try to help the kid sending art tutorials or giving tips so they would stop tracing.
I love when /i:
1 - people beef with children in the internet
2 - don't understand the difference between inspiration, referencing and tracing.
Dear god, learn what is what and stop fighting with children. If the child heavily referenced, copied or traced your art understand that child is learning how to draw, those are things we do to learn! Just DM the kid and ask for it to be taken down or asking for the child to give credits to you. It's so fucking simple.
Juicy art drama I shall watch.
Thank you for having captions! I’m hard of hearing so it’s incredibly helpful. Thank you so so much!
The caption 😭😭
idk why but all those jelly artstyle arts look like anime version of uncanny valley
I love your hair :)
cant wait to be known enough to have people tracing my art
same tbh it would be an honor
getting my art stolen would surely be an honor!
It's like that one subway meme :
Riri be like " heavily referenced art sucks"
My brother in Christ
You're the one that made the tutorials
"You just know it will be a banger with how those first 10 seconds started."
Said the police...
3:39 this whole things kinda funny, like imagine doing this to any mangaka
just like... layering two panels and the faces like... KINDA line up but nothing else does and being like "SEE YOU COPIED ME" lmao
When you have a generic art style where all your drawings look the same, they all have the same features and same expressions, and people decide to draw in your style (which was a tiktok trend to draw in the jelly artstyle and you also make tutorials on how to draw that way) then is it crazy that their drawings will turn out like yours??
Why did the 13yo make a better drawing then her tho like the hair looks so much better
as long as someone is tracing referencing etc without profiting or gaining significant attention from the work i really do not care tbh
Why does it matter if they do make profit?
@@milamila1123because its not their own work, if they traced they copied and that is someone else's hard work. Thats why you dont profit from it because while they did the work you turned it into a cookie cutter. However, it depends when it comes to referencing, you can reference without copying. The problem is when you deny you did it
8:30 haha the bilingual struggle is real I think the more correct translation would be cliché
(Sorry that's off topic)
But I agree Puririka should have handled the issue more carefully and maturely
love ur commentary!! u are so funny and make such informative stuff its awesome :3
Tbh I didn’t know this even art style had an official name
What's with the title? I'm confused ❤
O inglês é tão enrolado e estranhamente fofo!!! 💖💖
Another great video! Have a happy new year❤❤
