An underdiscussed positive to the last-minute Harris swap: if she wins, it shows the US that candidates don’t need such insufferably long campaigns to win and might even benefit from shorter, more targeted campaigns. Shorter campaigns will make US politics a lot more bearable and probably a lot healthier.
Pretty sure the problem is the two-party system, which creates the need for there to be an early campaign for the nomination. Now that utilitarian decision for nomination has just slipped further and further into the 720-day campaign that Trump is currently running. As I recall, most other western democratic nations have 1-4 months in total...and no mid-terms

My point is... will they maintain that energy (and polling bump) or is this truly just a temporary phase? It's a bit of a honeymoon for the dems but the proof of whether it's sustainable will come in the weeks ahead. Polls turned a bit in their favor but they can just as easily turn back. They'll get another week of free good publicity with their convention but then the real heavy lifting starts.

One thing worth noting is The Magic 47%, which is Trumps polling ceiling, with him rarely exceeding that number even when Biden was running (remainder went to third parties or undecided). Remember that he got around that in 2020. He hasnt lost many voters, but he hasnt gained any either.
What matters in the end is who shows up, and where. If everybody voted, he'd have zero chance. But Biden's tenure has resulted in a lot of apathy and cynicism in Democrats. Whether Kamala is capable of changing that remains to be seen. We will find out soon if she continues to rise or if the honeymoon period wears off all too quickly.

I remember Hillary polls were way higher than Trump's. And just because of that, Democrat people got way too comfortable and didn't vote. And that's how Trump won.
Important difference is voter enthusiasm which is a much better predictor of elections. Hillary polled higher than Trump, but Dems had a net -7% excitement in 2016. In 2020 Dems had a net 20%. Back in March this year it was around 10% I want to say. My guess is Kamala and Walz have put that back into 2020 area.

@@williamseric6492 The thing is, the US seems to have such a clusterfuck of issues that migration just becomes a drop in a sea of unease. Police brutality, inequality, reproductive rights and a very low minimum wage are problems felt more closely by a large part of the population. For instance, despite having higher salaries than France overall, the French annual minimum wage is around 7000 euros higher than the American one, so there's a large number of people genuinely struggling to make a decent living. In other important issues like abortion it's clear that the majority want is to be guaranteed, which does help Democrats.

Trump never said she isn't black, she said she used to entirely identify with her Indian heritage and is only saying she's black recently to take part in identity politics. She also withheld evidence that would have proven someone was innocent so she could get a prosecution on her record.
Its interesting because you could make this video weekly and the predictions would most likely change, it do think its valueable to point out the change in polls considering kamala new predicted lead position, but they seem a little redundant considering the volatility inherent in these types of predictions. It’s less the polls being bad and more the system being broken. Trump got fewer votes and still won. I don’t know of any other democracy that doesn’t elect the candidate who had the most votes.

Here is what I would like to see for he next election. An age limit for any type of public offices. If you are 70 years or older, you can not run for any type of public office. If you look at both Biden, and Trump it is obvious neither should hold any type of public office at their age.

I still don't see how private insurance profits somehow lead to more money for healthcare and better care. Single payer isn't socialist healthcare. It's just a more efficient payment system. Remember that private insurance doesn't care about theft. It just charges rate payers more to cover the losses.

I am from Austria, a small country known for Viennese cuisine and good coffee (also our cakes such as Sachertorte) in the middle of Europe. I see so many positive feelings and reactions in the audience, people's enthusiasm - it's the complete opposite of Trump's inflammatory and negative speeches. Not everyone loves her, but when the only three options in the past decade have been Trump, Biden and Hillary, it's not hard to understand why Harris feels like a breath of fresh air. Timing is extremely important for any candidate, and public mood changes with almost every cycle.

@@goganii Not that weird, Hillary's 2016 campaign was titled "Hillary For America," and Kamala leaned into her first name during her 2020 campaign as well. Other women in politics like Gretchen Whitmer are rarely referred to by first name, and some men in politics like Pete Buttigieg intentionally leaned into their first names. Some people in politics are even referred to by acronyms: FDR, JFK, RFK, AOC. People refer to politicians in all kinds of different ways.
It should be noted Independent voter in the US doesn't always mean moderate. Many independent voters are firm leftists, but because of America lacking a true left of center party are registered as independent. Additionally many otherwise conservative to moderate leaning voters, do support single payer. So I'm not sure I'd call it, smart politics.

Trump and the GOP are utterly floundering, they should've prepared for Harris taking over from Biden but they didn't, and assumed they had the election in the bag. I remember Hillary polls were way higher than Trump's. And just because of that, Democrat people got way too comfortable and didn't vote. And that's how Trump won.
Important difference is voter enthusiasm which is a much better predictor of elections. Hillary polled higher than Trump, but Dems had a net -7% excitement in 2016. In 2020 Dems had a net 20%. Back in March this year it was around 10% I want to say. My guess is Kamala and Walz have put that back into 2020 area.
Plus, one of the leading factors in Hilary's defeat was the email scandal
Sadly, these polls can cause complacency and some people won't vote bcuz they think their side will win.

Police brutality, inequality, reproductive rights and a very low minimum wage are problems felt more closely by a large part of the population. For instance, despite having higher salaries than France overall, the French annual minimum wage is around 7000 euros higher than the American one, so there's a large number of people genuinely struggling to make a decent living. In other important issues like abortion it's clear that the majority want is to be guaranteed, which does help Democrats.

Here is what I would like to see for he next election. An age limit for any type of public offices. If you are 70 years or older, you can not run for any type of public office. If you look at both Biden, and Trump it is obvious neither should hold any type of public office at their age.

Other women in politics like Gretchen Whitmer are rarely referred to by first name, and some men in politics like Pete Buttigieg intentionally leaned into their first names. Some people in politics are even referred to by acronyms: FDR, JFK, RFK, AOC. People refer to politicians in all kinds of different ways.
It should be noted Independent voter in the US doesn't always mean moderate. Many independent voters are firm leftists, but because of America lacking a true left of center party are registered as independent. Additionally many otherwise conservative to moderate leaning voters, do support single payer. So I'm not sure I'd call it, smart politics.

Trump and the GOP are utterly floundering, they should've prepared for Harris taking over from Biden but they didn't, and assumed they had the election in the bag.
Trump beat Hillary Clinton because she ran a bad campaign and had been poisoned by two decades of Republican mudslinging (all because she had the temerity to be a first lady who wanted to actually be involved in politics), and he could've beaten Biden because Biden's age had wrecked his ability to campaign effectively, but now he's up against a fresh, much younger opponent who knows how to take him on and is making all the right moves. If he wants to win, he needs to seriously up his game, but I'm not sure he's capable of doing that, especially with Vance as dead weight, and the reality that he has a popularity ceiling that he's never been able to break.
