Absolutely my favorite watch of all time. I’ve got a Tudor BB58, I’ve had a Rolex, I’ve had an Omega. Nothing quite does it for me like a Halios SF Series IV. I’ve got one in Bahama Yellow like this from the lottery and loved it so much that I sourced one in the NF Black for days when the yellow isn’t the right fit. Both Titanium w/the 12 hour bezel. I could see myself getting a Pastel and Pink as well with a dive time/fixed just to round the collection out. People say that they’re overpriced and others do it as well or better, but this watch wears amazing, keeps good time, has an impeccable dial, and has some of the best lume I’ve seen outside Seiko. Halios just does it right, and every generation is an improvement.
I think in the early days of micros the Halios brand made sense at this price but so many other brands can do what they do for less and they just don't do anything for me anymore. Definitely not at 800 dollars on a rubber strap
@@guymcredmond6463 Honestly, the only one on that list that comes close to Halios is Zelos, and it's the same price, so not sure how you can argue that it's better value . Off the top of my head I know that both NODUS and Seestern use an NH35 movement, which is a $40 movement. If you want cheap and cheerful then by all means go with that, but I'd choose one Halios over the entire list you have presented here.
Great looking watch but I never got all the hype around Halios. Other microbrands have really closed the gap in recent years and offer equivalent quality at a better value prop. Tuseno’s new Windseeker release looks awesome. Comes on a bracelet with overall amazing finishing, houses an SW200, and is less in price. Maen is another one. I have their Hudson 38 diver which I purchased for $565 shipped. Swiss made piece with a great bracelet and solid finishing for over $300 less than the Halios.
The Halios is CDN $775. The Tuseno Windseeker is 7,995 kr which is CDN $985. It's a nice piece. However, price point is important and considering the specs are similar, then I'd be going for the Halios.
The lume is stunning, and the yellow dial just pops so nicely. The price is steep, but there are a lot of Swiss powered watches that are up around that price. If the quality is there, then why not?
Jody, curious to know if you put the calipers to it to figure out if the strap was undersized or the lugs oversized? You say the lugs measure 20mm. Is that because you measured them? or is that simply what the specs say? Thanks for the review, as always.
Hi Jody! I still enjoying my Seaforth II with its 12 hour bezel in steel. Mine has got the Abyss blue dial. I was lucky to purchase the watch from Jason’s former distributor for Europe (FORaSEC). So, I didn’t have to pay custom duties and shipping was only 12,99 Euros. In total I payed 712 Euros and the watch came with a couple straps (brown leather, rubber, canvas). And the straps fit perfectly. Best regards, Claus
Almost perfect. Needs a depth rating - I keep looking at the empty space where it should be. Yes yellow, and surely a Bahamas should be on a tropical strap? Bit pricey for my collection as it wouldn't get that much wrist time. And this year the Baltany chrono keeps finding its way back on wrist - HUGE thanks for that review!! And another great review here - as always!
Great review ... I picked up a black dial version of the Seaforth IV and love it. The dial is ridiculously deep and the lume as you say is awesome. I have been a fan of the Seaforth since the 1st Series so of course Im biased ... but no getting away from the fact its absolute quality (i did replace the strap)
I wish these were more obtainable because they're so impressive. Traska have a huge release in two days so wish me luck I can pre order a Commuter because they're also hard to get. Take care Jody. (Jodi or Jody?)
After reading the comments criticising the value proposition...I won't disagree...but I have to say...It's a great watch for lots of reasons, and if you like the overall design (and for many people there is a lot to like about its unique design)....then spending a few more dollars for a watch you could potentially own for decades makes a lot of sense.
Great review Jody. My collection is entirely and proudly sub £300 with the exception of a Halios Puck2, and it does stand out in terms of bezel, lume, finishing, branding etc. Jason nails it every time, which makes that strap width very surprising. I wonder if it's not stretched out fully on the spring bar, or something along those lines.
Yup yellow 💛 mustard for me Encanto this impressive piece lovely for sure, everything about this watch is very well done....the lume a has the woah factor 👌 perfection thank you Jody for reviewing this incredible piece, until next time....
That lume was amazing! However, I’m not buying a watch for that kind of money…AND paying $65 for shipping. I can buy a Longines on the Grey for that kind of money. I cannot get over that lume. Well done Helios.
I bought a Halios Tropik SS about a decade ago-it was my first automatic watch and, if I remember right, cost around $650. Seeing Jason keep the Seaforth below $800 today is incredible. In a time when brands like JLC have hiked prices by 20-30% since the pandemic, it’s refreshing to see this kind of restraint.
Nice review Jody. I actually received this exact same Halios model a few weeks back, so obviously I am biased but I think it is a great watch. I hadn’t noticed that problem with the strap until now though - thanks!!🤣 Having said that I don’t think mine is as bad as the one you reviewed. I measured the lugs at 20mm and the strap at half a mm less. It is a really comfortable strap though. What was the bezel like on the one you had, as mine does have a smidge of back play. Did that one have any back play? With regards to a lot of the comments around the price and value, the reason I bought this was the dial colour. No other brand does dial colour quite like Halios, it really is a great shade of yellow. So it might be a bit pricey baring in mind there is no bracelet but I have not seen another watch with a dial colour and mid century styling as good as this. My only disappointment is actuality the fact there is not a bracelet option and even the Ginault bracelet which fits older versions does not fit the version IV according to Jason, as the lug holes are in a different place. So if anyone knows of one please let me know, otherwise I might just buy a nice shark mesh for it.👍
That's a very beautiful and clean watch indeed, you can really the quality on the close up shots for sure !! But I don't see how they can justify 800$ for this one with a rubber strap that doesn't fit exactly the 20mm lug width. I mean you can get an RZE Endeavour Medallion Yellow full titanium watch with titanium bracelet for 300$ less than this Halios. I would compare the quality of this microbrand to Traska, Maen & Farer, but they have better offering for the same price range according to me ! And remember that around this price range, you can get some watches from those great brands : Marathon, Hamilton, Tissot, Mido, Yema, Doxa, Certina, Zodiac, Ball, Christopher Ward & Frederique Constant !!
It's a very nice and clean design for sure. But I really hate about microbrands that I can't buy the watch I like. Limited production runs, design changes on a whim, every time I find a microbrand watch I like and decide to buy it, it's either long waiting lists or no longer available.
Very nice watch indeed. But it lacks the uniqueness to make me want to go on a waiting list for one. I can's say where right now but I've seen similar............ and now I remember! A not so well known Ali Express brand called Oumashi (Japanese for "good taste" apparently! ) 41mm with a Miyota movement and almost identical hands and for me, an identical dial colour but no dive bezel. $160! Now I'm not attempting to compare it with this but if you like the colour and don't want to wait it might be worth a look. Great video as always!
I like it but I jus got a wise adamascus and for 600 with 904 l. But this one has a Swiss movement and sapphire bezel the wise comes with 2 straps leather and rubber, 🤔 so It is close but in my eyes you get better value from wise but I do like this one
Don't think I'd be copping for one of these, a lot of money. However, fantastic looking watch and obviously popular for a reason! Love the yellow dial, be a winner in the summer
Great review Jody! I really wanted a Halios Seaforth in that F Black dial color for so long…until I was able to get my Albany AMA Diver. Truly gorgeous watch, for only $400. Sapphire crystal, sapphire bezel insert. Truly amazing lume. One of the best bezels I’ve encountered. Great beads of rice bracelets, fully brushed which I love, 9039 movement so no ghost date. Does this seaforth have a ghost date? Doesn’t bother me but I’ve seen people absolutely trash a watch for having one, saying no watch over $400 should have one lol. So over $800 would make them go nuclear 😂. I’d still love to own a seaforth on their awesome bracelet but not a necessity anymore, with my AMA diver and Zelos Blacktip. Not to mention my Van Banner PM 2.0, which does an amazing mint blue and yellow dial themselves. Too much competition nowadays.
I've decided to refine my collection to local, regional, and national brands...Halios will have a place, as will Vero (Portlander here). While the strap issue is a bummer, mine would be unworn and in the box anyway. At one time I WAS on the wait list, but I appear to have fallen off or be number 7000...
Love this watch. As a fellow Vancouverite he made us proud. Almost everything is well done...except the price. Knowing I can get 2 combat subs (I have 3) for this makes me say ummmmmm. The capitalist in me says wait a minute they should be charging more. They obviously sell out and thus there is a demand. Well I guess that's the answer. Market Demand vs Access = Value. Or something like that. I suspect the loose band is a one of.
Jordy, quick question about the watch winders in the background. Are those watches ones without hacking. I find that unless the watch does not have a movement with hacking I would never use a watch winder. Cycling through at least 18 watches, when I take them off I set them forward to 6am and then pull out ( hack ) the crown. This way after wearing it a day it has plenty of power and with the crown pulled out it keeps itself wound until I wear it again.
Rather buy a Sinn 104 version almost same case shape lugs plus Sinn it’s much more cool watch plus that rubber looks very cheap lesse mm in lugs specially on a quick realised spring bars, is the calibre ghost date ?
What a beautiful watch. Strap not so much, but well spec'd. But... Does nothing my Duro doesn't for less than the price of the Halios shipping costs. 😭 Great video Jody.
Gorgeous watch and great specs. If this were in a store window it would stand out amongst similar brands. The thing is that buying from stores requires paying the store, maybe a separate logistics company in between that needs paying. It may be unfair, but you'd sort of expect it to be a fair bit cheaper going direct to the source. Maybe there's a better balance for the customer by producing more and lowering the price? But they sell out, so it's really just me moaning about availability.
I mean it's a decently good looking watch, I like the yellow and it seems decently well made, but I don't see anything close to the asking price nor do I see a compelling reason to go through the whole raffle thing to even be able to buy one. And the strap is hideous for the price.
We're getting to the stage where we should start to see the bigger microbrands (minibrands, millibrands?) start to scale up. It's a cracking watch, and they've nailed the design but failed on both supply chain (with the demand shortages), QC (the strap), and demand planning (as evidenced by the shortages). If capital is the issue, I'm sure many of us watch folk would be more than happy to buy some decently priced special shares in order to lend them a hand. This isn't a dig at Halios specifically but really all of the decent microbrands.
I was thinking similarly to you: There are other microbrands at varying spec and price points, that either don't have the same availability inconsistencies or at least have more predicable, steady batches. Helm is doing first-come-first-served on their waitlist at roughly 150 people a month. That's not fantastic, but it's far easier and more reliable than this! I have 6 microbrand watches in my collection (and then three...minibrands? I like that word you used!) and only one of them has periods of unavailability like Helios, and they're the smallest company by far. (Another brand does batches like Helm, but in much larger batches and it usually takes them at least a year to sell out the batch.) At a certain point it just makes me wonder if Halios is not unable, but instead unwilling to make more watches, and I have to wonder if it's because they're content where they are or because they like to create this artificial scarcity in an attempt to inflate the value or "rarity" of the brand?
I think, Wise has out Heliosed Helios. If you want a good looking diver on a strap that is. And its 904L. In terms of value in a microbrand diver you're really just paying for the name here, and that's just because the bar is that high now. Helios needs to step it up.
It's nice, but it's priced slightly too high. You can get other microbrands, with a Sellita movement, and often on a fitted metal bracelet, for less money nowadays. I totally get that for people who have 'bought into the brand' early days, it would make perfect sense for them to buy. One issue I have, is that living in Australia, at that price, it's going to attract a 10% GST and about a $90 customs fee on top of the price of the watch. Obviously those extra $ don't apply to peoole living elsewhere, but, when I have the option to purchase other microbrands, with similar Swiss movements, for less money, that are definitely under $1000AUD, then that's what I'm going to do.
Jody I would love to see you do some „aliexpress watches“ again Because currently I am interested in the yachtmaster hommage and i wanted to get my little brother the day date hommage There are plenty of reviews but none of them „hellos and welcomes“ me so yeh id love that
I tried for ages to get a Helios a few years back. I gave up, and now dont bother with them. They seem to deliberately ensure their batches in order to produce a feeling of scarcity, to justify high prices. I find this tactic cynical, machiavellian and unethical. I'm going to get a Christopher Ward instead.
Like the Halios, I think they're worth the money, but they're not worth the wait. If I could get one in a reasonable time, I would. They do need to make good on the strap, but seen much worse problems on other watches, some that even cost significantly more. I could live with it.
Im not sure. These photograph well and look great on the website but I would spend £1000 and get an Oris 65 heritage diver! Much nicer and also holds its value.
I've always felt that the Seaforth looked very well designed. Despite putting my name on the waitlist, I was never able to get one. Since then I've moved on from Halios and ended up buying something else with a bright blue dial - a Squale Matic 60 Atmos.
I always wanted a Halios but not anymore. They have priced themselves out for me in recent years. I'd rather go the extra and get an Oris, Longines, Seiko, Monta, Formex, C. Ward... I could go on
I feel like I have seen so many watches that I am getting a bit jaded. I like the way "auto-matic" appears on the dial, I like the tangerine colour and that's about it. I'm not inspired by the overall shape, the dial design or the finishing. So yeah SOME good here but overall meh...
I bought one of the V.1 models some years ago. It looked cool then, although the movement sounded like a rusty coffee grinder so I returned it for a refund. These days you can find this aesthetic on any number of watches, and I feel like the Halios sun has set.
It’s a nice watch…but I think a lot of love for micros is value for money. For this kind of money, you have a lot of other options from brands with name recognition, and better QC.
I'm a Canadian, the idea of getting a Canadian watch seems really cool but I think this is a complete miss for me unfortunately. Very generic hands and dial markers, no date, and surprising that a rubber strap is that poorly done when you can get a beautifully made, dressy tropic on Ali Express for less than $10. Makes me appreciate the build quality of my Helm Miyako that much more. Lume and color scheme are great though!

Good video. The hour markers are actually made of Globolight XP, the same kind of 3D lume blocks you see on Moser, Tudor, etc.
Thank you for very good video. I think that it's similar to Doxa 200T and costs about the same, a little bit less. I prefer Doxa.

Jody any plans to review a Baltic? I feel like these two have similar vibes, but the Baltic is much more readily available and cheaper!

Yes, your supporters of the channel are terrific! Thanks for another engaging video!
Is the Halios Seaforth watch an internal anti-reflective coating or a double-sided anti-reflective coating?

The yellow would be my choice! It looks to me like the strap width is OK. Rather, it looks like it could use fatter spring bars.
It is a great looking watch. It is a shame you don’t get it on a bracelet for that price however.
By the way, bahama yellow refers to the Porsche car colour from the late 60s/early 70s.

(Another brand does batches like Helm, but in much larger batches and it usually takes them at least a year to sell out the batch.)
At a certain point it just makes me wonder if Halios is not unable, but instead unwilling to make more watches, and I have to wonder if it's because they're content where they are or because they like to create this artificial scarcity in an attempt to inflate the value or "rarity" of the brand?
I think, Wise has out Heliosed Helios. If you want a good looking diver on a strap that is. And its 904L. In terms of value in a microbrand diver you're really just paying for the name here, and that's just because the bar is that high now. Helios needs to step it up.
Nice looking watch , but for that price , oh dear. Cheers Jody
I ticks the buttons but .........ty for a good review Jody
Helm are the Rolex of Microbrands.....I should know Im on the waiting list. To me these look very Christopher Wardy and they aint much more.....
Nice watch 👍
Seaforth, not just a suburb in the Northern Beaches!
Looks amazing. The strap would be 10x cooler if they sat flush with the case
perhaps i would go for the RZE watch with yellow dial over this
Nice watch, I'm not sure about the crown guard though... oh well, I can't afford it anyway!
Can it possibly outclass the signum though? We shall see if more challengers arise
Jody
I would love to see you do some „aliexpress watches“ again
Because currently I am interested in the yachtmaster hommage and i wanted to get my little brother the day date hommage
There are plenty of reviews but none of them „hellos and welcomes“ me so yeh id love that
I like the watch and the color chosen but at that price point even if it had a steel strap it would be a bit pricey.
Nice. I'll stick with my Duro. The Marlin is cooler than the yellow dial.
Pretty sweet watch. But depending on the watch for a couple hundred more I'd go for a Squale.
How about the Traska Commuter as an alternative ?
Traska, Farer and CW all have some compelling alternatives, that one may actually purchase.
Lucky bast....I'm over the tiffany blue, but it's a real looker.
I've always felt that the Seaforth looked very well designed. Despite putting my name on the waitlist, I was never able to get one. Since then I've moved on from Halios and ended up buying something else with a bright blue dial - a Squale Matic 60 Atmos.
The watch you purchased is way better
this Squale is a beauty, congrats! Sorry to hear you didn't score the Halios you wanted, this is indeed frustrating.
@@richardvacanti9428 It is also almost twice more expensive :) We need to make fair comparisons
Best part of £900 to get these into uk puts it up against some serious opposition.
Yip, 20% VAT to get it in the country, damn you Brexit!!
Yup yup. Nice watch but nah at that price.
@@mell3109 nothing to do with Brexit, if still in EU would still have to pay the duty.
Entertaining video as always. Nice watch indeed. Expensive for what it is.
Very nice !
Morning jody, that strap, unforgivable at that price!
I always wanted a Halios but not anymore. They have priced themselves out for me in recent years. I'd rather go the extra and get an Oris, Longines, Seiko, Monta, Formex, C. Ward... I could go on
There is one on E-bay at the moment for two and a half times the MRP. The strap on this watch looks pretty snug.
you can ALWAYS have Just One More Watch! looking into adding a BULOVA Day Date to the collection
Meh. Just too much $ for specs and build available elsewhere. Thanks for the review as always!
Amazing skin diver vibes
That is gorgeous looking, undeniable, ..unobtainable of course but gorgeous,
If a brands price is hiked up just because they are difficult to purchase then that seems like a legit dig to me.
i thought this would be my first yellow watch. but its still unavailable
Very nice.
There is one of these on eBay right now for £1,899.00 😮 these watch flippers are outrageous
@Addingup LOL makes me laugh as I didn't see the Brits like this ... I also hate flippers and this guy is outrageous IMHO
There are a few on US greedbay but sellers are asking ALL THE MONEY for em (well over a grand)!
Pick up a spinnaker for much less looks the same, maybe even nicer depending on the person.
It’s a nice watch…but I think a lot of love for micros is value for money. For this kind of money, you have a lot of other options from brands with name recognition, and better QC.
How is this twice as good as the RLG you reviewed a year ago..
Desperately needs a bracelet for those sorts of prices imo. Just not competitively priced, even though I do like the looks a lot.
I will go with wise watches. And the wise loom is just as good
I'm a Canadian, the idea of getting a Canadian watch seems really cool but I think this is a complete miss for me unfortunately. Very generic hands and dial markers, no date, and surprising that a rubber strap is that poorly done when you can get a beautifully made, dressy tropic on Ali Express for less than $10. Makes me appreciate the build quality of my Helm Miyako that much more. Lume and color scheme are great though!
