I really love the fact that not all the boss's laugh at Mario (or his partner) getting hit by an offstage object. It really shows their seriousness and personality on how nothing may appear funny to them since they know they have a job to do - and that, of course, is to defeat Mario.
Of course the Shadow Queen takes her duties very seriously.
It mostly happens to the 3d entities.
I feel like Hooktail should've had a reaction tho, I understand Gloomtail and Bonetail but Hooktail would definitely laugh at that
Enemies like chain chomp and whacka don't laugh either but it's probably because they're some of the closest characters to being actual animals

Fun Fact: This was a thing from 64 that didn't make it to the original gcn TTYD, but in 64 only some enemies would have it and it would be triggered by doing certain actions like jumping on a spiky goomba or being attacked by said, there are more examples but I forgot.
Kinda wish we saw Tubba Blubba or Tutankoopa laughing
@@theshadowworld2239 If I remember correctly, Tutankoopa does laugh if you fail to guard that one chain chomp earthquake attack(the one that drops rocks from the celling), I may be wrong since I don't play vanilla in ages

Piranha plants being able to laugh indicates they are intelligent enough to have a sense of irony, which hardly any animals have. That means the rooted ones are stuck in the same position, all day, popping in and out of the ground all their lives.
Unless they're like Flowey and can move by ducking down into the ground and moving through the soil.

And yet he's low enough to devour the audience!

Fun fact: If you have all or nothing badge equipped and finish the enemy in the first hit then miss the second hit they fall over in their normal animation instead of the hurt animation
It happened to me lots of times because I intentionally do that.
Interestingly, the Chomps, Bill Blasters, Dragons, Magnus, Cortez, Smorg, Grodus, and the Shadow Queen DON’T react… I guess the blasters are inanimate but still…

@@PhantomAarantula things like the dragons, Magnus and Cortez likely don’t react because they’re 3D.
Stuff like the bill blasters, Smorg and chain chomps not reacting makes sense, the Blasters are inanimate while the Chomps and smorg are practically wild animals.
Grodus and shadow queen not even reacting is likely a personality thing.
The chomps are basically dogs. They won’t laugh at your expense theyre too pure
Funny enough, the Dragons, Cortez and shadow Queen do have Laughing animations but those are used only during the credits
The only ones Missing Animations are Magnus 1 and 2.0, Both Chomps variants, both Bill Blasters and Grodus
I think they specifically don't because they take you seriously unlike everything else
The Spinies found it so funny that they straight up grew mouths to smile with
That was really cute, honestly, how you can see the corner of their mouths peek out from above their hands.
I love how Gus looks like he's trying to hold in his laughter.
He also laughs if he hits you with an attack

Finally, I wanted to see all of these. This change alone adds so much character to the game
Same. Course, to get to see them all, someone would actually have to go out and record them all.

My two boys, Prince Mush and Doopliss have some stellar laughing animations.
Doopliss looks like he's genuinely enjoying Mario and co's suffering. The fact that Doopliss has 10 different laughing animations is baffling (Laughing as himself, Shadow Mario, Mario, Goombella, Koops, Flurrie, Yoshi kid, Vivian, Bobbery and Ms Mowz).
Then there's Mush, my boy Mush. Such a proud "Pfft, skill issue" imo.

Thanks for taking the time to get all of these! I remember being really confused about Bobbery, Marilyn, and Beldum having new laughing animations when I saw the credits, but I didn’t know they were just the “laughing at you for getting hit” animations, so thanks for enlightening me!

Bobbery's laughing animation is used one more time in the game: If he's your active partner while winning the second Shwomp(?) quiz in the X-Naut base, he'll also use that animation.

I guess it’s mainly due to them taking Mario and his partners more seriously than the rest of the enemies.

Why is Doopliss' little giggle so cute though
There’s even animations for enemies laughing at you whenever stage props fall on you, they really went above and beyond with the character, enemy and NPC expressions!

One thing i noticed about the partners is that all of them use their appeal animation, except bobbery and mowz, who both use a new animation to the remake (edit: correction, mowz' animation is her successful kiss thief animation, thx) with bobbery's being used nowhere else as far as i remember, (correction 2: bobbery laughs in the credits, thx again) and mowz' being used in some of her encounters during the story
(Correction 3, turns out I'm not that knowledgeable lol: Bobbery's laugh is also used during the chapter 7 thwomp quiz)
@da_real_bup actually, in the case of ms. Mowz, she uses her successful kiss thief animation
Bobbery's laugh animation reminds me of the bob-ombs laugh animation in game.
Bobbery's is probably different because a) he didn't have one that would fit and b) it's only going to happen when it's Doopliss, not the real Bobbery
Bobbery actually laughs in the credits! It's during the Chapter 5 section when Cortez appears.
@@Bupboy Bobbery also uses the laugh animation during the X-naut Thomp quiz! He does it when you win the quiz I believe.
Crazy the amount of detail they went into the expressions this remake, especially when they didn’t have to! Love how they even went the extra mile to add Bobbery and Ms. Mowz’s animations too in the one instance you got hit by an audience hazard while Doopliss copied them!
Cool too how some of the more serious bosses also don’t laugh at all like the dragons, Cortez, the Shadow Queen, and Whacka (who I assumed must be pissed as all hell).
I'd be pissed too if I got bonked on the head for bread in the last 20+ years!😂

This is one of, if not my favorite attention-to-detail changes in the remake.

This occurrence will almost never happen if you pay attention to crowd and ceiling. And if you’re somehow too slow to react to the obstacles, you deserve to get laughed at.

I didn't know the enemies/bosses laughed when you get hurt by an audience member/stage prop until I saw this guy (6:33) do it during my playthrough. 😆
I don’t think I ever got hit by the audience throwing stuff but man if I had gotten hit and saw EVERY ENEMY cackling at me at once I would’ve been so upset

I agree, I also enjoy listening to the characters mumbles, they actually sounded different when on a phone or when they're nervous in game.

My headcanon is Whacka feels a sense of empathy and is just really good at showing it... but then again, he doesn't seem to mind being whacked in general.

I actually never noticed that the enemies laugh if you get hit by something; because I didn't ever get hit by a crowd thrown object. It is an extra bit of detail that is very cool.

@IsabruhMoment Counterpoint: The original TTYD on GameCube had poisoned animations for some enemies and bosses that are unused because poison can't be offensively used by the player.
Regardless, the dizzy animations would largely work fine, doubling for low HP.

@@PhantomAarantula The Piranha Plant in TTYD is usually pretty avoidant of personality (not as an insult, just as a trait) so it's fun to see them arc their entire body over while using a leaf as a hand for a good ol' snicker lol.
i love how doopliss looks as mario when he's laughing at mario getting hurt, the way the black void eyes curl up and the shadow the cap grows darker makes him look so sinister and yet still charming in his doopliss-y way

I only noticed the whole enemies chuckling when you get hurt animation around the end of the game. Seeing this video makes me appreciate all the efforts the developers did to make this game the best it can be.

I discovered this for the first time by accident when I fought the Shadow Sisters in Boggly Woods! I wasn't expecting a laughing animation at all when I got hits by one of those blue worms, it was hilarious!😂 Nintendo really out done themselves with this remake! It still feels like a dream replaying this after 20 years!
