When Time Team Finally Found An Ancient Roman Temple | Time Team

  • Time Team has never found a Roman temple. But a 30-year-old photograph clearly shows double square cropmarks in a field. Surely this time they will strike lucky? The trouble is, the site may have suffered plough damage. Francis takes charge. Though initial excavations are encouraging, John and Stewart are puzzled by a geophysical anomaly. Including a tessellated pavement and a coin hoard, a picture gradually emerges of not one but four temples - in fact a whole complex of buildings. It proves to be one of the most important excavations in Time Team history.

So Stewart did the thing I thought they would have done straight from the beginning: To get your ruler out and look for landscape features. Stewart is they absolute best, he always stirs up seemingly sure assumptions.

Unless Tony gets a perfect temple or villa, he is never happy. His time on Time Team and Odyssey prove that. While he is frustrated with the field archeologists who explain things to him, he finally admits, "though I don't know a lot about archeology, I still think we should be able to find more buildings.". Phil and Francis are so patient. I am always excited and amazed with the great finds that are discovered which allow all of us to understand history so much better.

I always thought Tony was just supposed to be basically the voice of the average person who does usually want more. Basically a way to let the audience feel their frustration addressed on show and then move on happily with what you actually get. Maybe it's just me that feels that way and appreciates feeling my other less patient side gets a voice on the show through Tony.

I alway love when they reopen up a trench on a site that someone else has already opened to see what they found and catalog everything and tony loses his mind cause he doesn't understand why they have to do that its hilarious to me but you are right about him making the show and asking the questions that the people at home want to know im so glad i found this show and wish that they had never grown old and this show was still going on with this group the new group just dont have the camaraderie of the original cast especially mick, phil, tony, john, Stewart and helen even though she came after carenza but the addition of matt, raksha and bridget really shored up the cast imo

Ironic that slaughtering dozens of people for entertainment would become celebrated in the Roman world, but Druidic human sacrifice was a horror. my comment pertained more towards what roman temples were... engineered is correct so placing them where most appropriate makes sense... temples were meant to be seen and as a reminder of an esoteric existence through roman eyes... even though most view these temples as exoteric... there is no way of comprehending the outside unless you can find it on the inside...

Although Constantine made Christianity the state religion he didn’t covert until his death bed and then by a follower of Arius who was in the minority (later deemed heretical) view during the Council of Nicaea. Nicholas (Santa Claus) struck Arius during the Council of Nicaea.

It’s so annoying that the post-Roman era Brits demolished all the Roman buildings, and went back to living in mud huts.
Talk about throwing the baby out with the bath water!

I would like to propose that there may be a magnetic field between the two temples and that is why for geo physics had trouble picking up outlines of the archeology

Emission qui pourrait être intéressante si les prospections n'étaient pas limitées à trois jours. En l'espèce cela représente peu d'intéret et scientifiquement c'est un non-sens absolu.

kinda wild now that I think about it, that romans called human sacrifice for the gods barbaric, but having people kill each other just for entertainment was fine lol
