Is there anything better than a having a great lawn, a rich green, lush, thick lawn? No, unless it freshly mowed of course. The question is, how do you achieve one? If your lawn isn't rich and lush, then Trevor explains how to get one.
Rich, thick, lush green lawns don’t happen easily, you need to put a fair bit of work into it, to achieve them. Take a look at Trevor’s lawn for example, under the surface of the grass, not far down (10-15cm) is a rough, very hard laterite gravel, yet the lawn is doing well, and this tells you a little bit about lawns.
Two things to understand about lawns:
1. Lawns have very shallow roots, and these are the roots that take up moisture and nutrients, so you have to take care of them
2. The leaf covering over the surface of the lawn is absorbing all the energy from the sun, and this is what keeps it, lush, strong and healthy
Two things to keep in mind when growing your lawn:
1. Grass needs lots of sun, the less sun you have, the thinner your lawn will be, so grow turf in full sun.
2. Grass needs to be watered, watering systems are essential for good lawns, the deeper the soil below the roots, the strong the turf and the less water it needs.
It's great to feed the soil, which feeds the lawn at this time of the year, but that takes time. In spring and summer, it all happening on the surface, so as the soil warms up the grass will take off. If you feed the leaves of the grass now, you will get amazing results, and that’s where Seasol for Lush Green Lawns helps out.
