Atherton sounds like matured monk, so many reasons to love him.
He was always like that
All those hits by Ambrose head to toe made him an old monk years ago lol
Except Atherton all others are very biased against India. Specially Rob key, he is so used to looking cricket from English perspective that he is not ready to accept logical arguments of Atherton.
@@higherbeingX 🤣🤣🤣 and that dreaded look...
@@Harsh-hg5ft Rob Key hates India and is jealous of Indian domination in cricket. Once when making all time XI , he said on record in this very channel that he wouldn't have Ashwin in his team despite him having the best statistics among all the current players because Ashwin once did run out aka Mankading in IPL which is well within the laws and rules of the game , whereas on the other hand he went with Steve Smith who was involved in Sandgate issue in Sputh Africa and is a proven cheat time and again. It clearly shows that if a white man cheats in the game but had a great record, Rob key has higher respect for Steve Smith who defamed the game; than a brown guy Ashwin who has a great record and also plays within the laws and regulations of the gamr and does not cheat and defame the game.
Experts like Nas and Athers are the best we have now, unfortunately they're dying breed. Whenever they're on air they enhance the experience. I love listening to them and Rob and Ian are cherry on the cake. Right amount of quality discussion about cricket with a dash of humour, what's not to like.

Totally agree.
I will tell you this, after having watched India play down under with that quality of live feed and relatively better commentators, I feel like gouging my eyes out and ripping my ears off when I watch the coverage of Ind vs Eng - What an awful commentary team !!! @Jennifer, he won't as had they won this test they would not have said about pitch. Agree, pitch was not that good, but eng players as well culprits of shitty batting. I thought in 2nd inning they will bat and give a good total for chase but they didnt.

The thing I don't like about Vaughn is he only comments on one aspect of the game like he'll go on and on about pitch being shitty but he doesn't give technical comments about England batting poorly or the lackre on pink ball like these fellas. A true and unbiased analyst gives comments on all aspects of the game. I think Atherton is the best.

Rob Key was visibly disappointed when the conversation shifted away from the pitch, he only wants to discuss how bad the pitch was 😂
But all he did was contradict himself. Listen to 12:48 and then 17:30
You can bat or you cannot. You may play spin better; you may play pace better. ButEngland have a team full of guys who average in the 30s in first class cricket. What do you expect? The batting is crap, anywhere in the world. England have struggled for years.
Beautiful observation .Appreciate
22 times a test has ended under 2 days
8 times that has happened in England
2 times in india ( 2nd one today)
I'll leave it here , you guys should spread this message for those salty people who are saying shameful pitch , bla bla 🔥
You need to add some context to your answer.
In India the 2 matches took place in 2018 and 2021. So very much in the modern era.
One game in England lasted 2 days and that was in 2000.
Prior to that the 7 other tests occurred in 1921, 1912, 1890, 1888, 1888, 1888 and 1882.
I'm sure that you'll agree that the stat you quote is completely meaningless.
@@colinogara9122 But that 2018 match was against Afghanistan. If India had played its full strength squad in that match, the match would have been over much sooner. That shouldn't be seen as an example to blame the "era".
This 2021 pitch was straight up bad, no arguments. But it was more exxagarated by poor batting show by both sides.
@@colinogara9122 Lords 2018 was 2 days, but due to rain it had extended to 3-4 days, no one is saying bad pitch for that?
@@gijokoyikkara4020 again context is key. England bowled superbly in conditions made for swing bowling. It was overcast and in Broad and, especially, Anderson you had bowlers who were swinging the balls around corners. It was the overhead conditions which contributed to India's defeat as much as anything.
And when England batted we had by far the best of the weather conditions.
@@colinogara9122 you talk about context and yet fail to acknowledge the key issue at hand here- the pink ball. This pitch wasn't that bad. It certainly wasn't as bad as the scores suggest. Infact it was better than the one we had for the second test match- a match that produced 2 100's. The reason it got so difficult for the batsmen is because the ball depending on how it pitches was not turning, going straight with the arm. The scenario would have been completely different had this match been played with the red ball. What troubles the batsmen more than the movement itself is lack of consistency in the movement. Surfaces like these generally with the red ball would provide good, consistent turn. But the extra layer of coating on the pink ball is causing some of those deliveries to skid on straight and not turn. This issue is best highlighted by the Pujara and Kohli dismissals. They're very good players of spin who generally are adept at reading from the hand. They played for the turn. The red ball would have turned. Those deliveries were the regular stock balls and not the variation arm balls but somehow they didn't turn. The same thing happened with most batsmen.
What we witnessed is something which didn't really have a precedent. This was the first ever day night match being played on a typical subcontinent turner. So nobody knew what to do with the situation.
Instead of focusing on the pitch we should rather focus on differentiating day night test matches from the regular test matches. Teams going ahead should try and develop skill sets and strategies accordingly. We should accept the fact that when it comes to day night test matches 5 day matches will be the exceptions and not the norm. The playing surfaces will have to be unusually flatter for it to last 5 days.
Mike Atherton is absolutely right with his views! Respect!
My 16 year old off spinner at home in Birmingham said Ollie Pope was all at sea and had no clue!
Cool, My dad said they were all crap
Rob Key keeps contradicting himself. Calls one English seaming pitch great because Root scored a 130 on it, and yet insists that the 2nd Test pitch was bad despite Rohit & Ashwin centuries. Too biased. The others were more balanced in their views.
Exactly. 12:48 and 17:30
He is just a loosing cry baby. Hope he learns some sense from Nasser and Atherton
If England had spinners who were as good as Axar Patel or Ashwin, the second test would have lasted two days as well. I don't blame the pitch at all for England's loss as we were outbatted, outfielded and outbowled, but that pitch was not good enough for test cricket to last 5 days.
@ferzy09 Ball was spinning from the start of day one in 2 test
@ferzy09 you didn't see how kohli got bowled in that innings? Rohit went on to get 161 in the same innings, much later after kohlis dismissal. 🙄
So no spin on day one but English seamers from day 1 is fine. Regards, The “Raj”.... and their prince Rob Key!
Just in case you still haven’t figured it out, it’s about the pitch not getting worse day one onwards.
@@khurmiful this is the challenge, everything cannot be like English conditions, try to adapt and not complain otherwise just play at home
Test cricket is a 5 day game. The pitch has to be able to last 5 days even if players play in a fashion that ends it early. A lot of the time in England, the pitch gets easier to bat on as the match goes on so often, a day 1 pitch in England is equivalent to a day 5 pitch in India.

Pls understand all players are the best their country have to offer so you have to evolve and perform.

Absolutely amazing discussion , that's how it should be ... Objective, Impartial and clinical. And yes pitch was not fair .
England can go on about the pitch (which wasnt great) but their batting was pedestrian at best. People getting lbws and bowled to straight balls on first day says a lot about the batting.
Did you literally not watch this? I would take a bet that you didn't because they literally say that it was near impossible to bat on, because the ball was ragging in Chennai, but then suddenly in Goa it goes straight OR turns a mile. I would not be surprised AT ALL if there was match fixing by the groundsmen. These pitches aren't even village quality.
Little nuances, little observations pointed out by Athers and Nass are fascinating. Broadcasters would do well to arrange their live views on the game.

I like the back and forth of these fine analysts, but they've missed one key point. Two reasons contributed to the match ending in two days. Batsmen all over the world aren't good at facing spin. This includes the Kohlis and the Pujaras. Batsmen don't want to be patient anymore. The analysts have called this out. But the real culprit wasn't the pitch at all. The real culprit is pink-ball tests and the analysts have missed this key aspect. Teams haven't played with the pink ball enough. India collapsed to 36 all out at Adelaide. All the pink ball tests India have played ended under three days. Teams all over the world need to play with the pink ball at the domestic level before playing at an international level.
Hit the nail(s) on the head!
I think michael atherton and nasser hussain are most sensible former english cricketers, they predicted that england would face tough time in india and never cried about about the pitches.

But the batting and techniques from both sides was just horrible. Both sides batsmen just did not get forward enough and did not have solid techniques
Don't forget 49/0 for India in 2nd innings. It's all mind games.
'21of 30 wickets fall in the match were straight balls, there is no danger or sub standard pitch' ,said Kevin Petersen. I see in that way too.
bharat won by 10wickets ,
england batting at their worst.
@@nikhilreddy8550 when u chasing a low score there's no pressure, theres no point to that argument
@@ashishd380You are just reinforcing my point that it's all in the mind. If the pitch is as unplayable as it is being portrayed the Indians should have lost atleast 1 wicket. They were hardly troubled.
What a mature discussion from the panel, nothing better than watching and listening to all the analysis and the experience they showcase to the viewers. Have always loved Nas, but have just begun to admire Ath’s views as well. Splendid!
That was very very mature level of analysis of this match. Appreciate it.
New Zealand produced high seaming pitches and tests in NZ are completed in 3 days too.
Better than a pitch that self destructs after 15 or so overs on day 1
Max..pitch did not self destruct. Poor shot selection was cause for low score and indian spinners bowled really well. England missed on Domi Bess, he would have been deadly on this pitch. There was no prodigious bounce or spin, just a tricky pitch. Also pink ball played its effect.
@@maxhills8835 mate ....tell me one ball that turned from the rough and castled the leg stump from outside off .....
That's the problem!!Give a green top to Anderson and Broad they would want that kind of surface Everytime to wreck havoc!!Second test pitch was not bad I agree third test match pitch is not acceptable
@@1824ajay they always get that pitch in the home mate....specially against asian teams..broad is the classic example of a home track bully ....see his performance here....no swing and 500+ wickets experience rendered useless
knowledge! wisdom! knowledge! wisdom! knowledge! wisdom! knowledge! wisdom! . especially from Nas & Atherton..no wonder they captained England for a long time..
@leisha , yeah and both of them some bizarre things in cricket. Atherton got sand in his pants to get reverse swing for his bowlers. Nas became modern day cricket douglas jardin when he used leg stump bowling against tendulkar with giles.
Always have been so good to hear Nasser on the air, does a lot of intricate analysis which is always a treat to hear
Nas & Mike are genius, when it comes to analysing & dissecting the game. Key is just acting as an overhyped England fan.
So true
Mike z better than all this
Ath and Nas, the best pundits in sport.
Remember watching the Ashes 2015 match in Edgbaston. It got over on day 3 in the 1st session, that too cos day 1 was constantly rain interrupted and had only about 60 overs.
Exactly! Also what about broad taking 8 for 15 and aus rolling over for 60 in a session? Or what about the test against ireland at lords when teams scored 85 and 38 respectively and the match got over in effectively two days. The poms and aussies suffer from selective amnesia.
Cry babies always thats why they are out of WTC now. Too much dependance on Joe Root..its team game so no wonder they are clutching straws now.
@@nayamsharjeelrafique369 so Australia got bowled out for 60, England got 391/9d and Australia got 253 in it's second innings. Sure doesn't seem like the pitch was the problem
@@nayamsharjeelrafique369 root got a hundred and england made over 350, australia also made 250 in their 2nd innings. so it's not about the pitch it was super bowling by broad
Extremely love to Nas. & Mike really honest guys that's why I'm like English man salute to be this two legend of the game 💪
Honestly bin the "regulations" and prepare as seaming or as spinning wicket you want as long as it's not injuring players.
Why Joe Root not come to bowl on Day 1 when Rohit & Kohli playing in a 50+ partnership.?
Remember he's just a standby bowler. He's just as surprised by his success as is everybody else.
No left handers batting
Because he is an awful captain as far as tactics go.
@@rext8949 that was a fluke dude......and if not he didn't do anything good to take wickets atleast 3 of them were caught by some player and 2 by edge he didn't lbw or bowled into someone like axar so it was the tailenders who tried to take joe on but ended up giving edge or playing down the wrong line!
The batting was awful but the pitch was a joke. I thought we were back in the game after bowling out India for 145 but the 2nd innings batting performance was unbelievable. The bowling was very good, especially Joe Root!! Jack Leach bowled brilliantly as well, he’s just got better as the tour has gone on. Got to be much better in the last test. Hopefully the pitch will be better as well.
@Alexander Allsop definitely. The bowlers got us back in the game and then to get 81 all out was awful. Should have done better than that.
No bruv! The pitch didn't had any demons. It was just batting and the pink ball.
Agree as well. The batting was crap but the pitch wasn't good enough. Chunks were coming out and exploding on day 1. Batters were pathetic mind. Not a clue.
England had the edge after winning the toss they should have scored at least 200 but 112 on this kinda pitch isn't acceptable
@@mrkipling2201 that was a fluke dude......and if not he didn't do anything good to take wickets atleast 3 of them were caught by some player and 2 by edge he didn't lbw or bowled into someone like axar so it was the tailenders who tried to take joe on but ended up giving edge or playing down the wrong line!
This is by far the best debate I have seen wherein people are sharing their opinions and not forcing them. At no time did any of the member got agitated nor conveyed displeasure on others opinion. Very well done!
A fantastic analysis of the umpiring and third umpiring in this series, and of the use of DRS generally. Brilliant show
Just shows difference in class and opinion. Nasser and Atherton raised questions on bataman techniques. While mediocre player like Rob raising questions on pitch.
Very well said 👍🏻
You’re massively cherrypicking there. They all agreed that both the last 2 pitches have been poor. Which they absolutely were. The fact that India have better spinners is irrelevant to the quality of the pitch
@@jacobward9163 Completely agree mate. A pitch should be designed to last 4/5 days. A greenish top pitch in England gets better after the first session. Whats wrong with having a massively turning pitch on say day 3. India should still win with better spinners.
Hussain and Atherton were talking very sensible like great players while Rob was just repeating same thing again and again without much logic.
@ankit, he is another vaighan I guess. Keep whining about pitch but dnt see whether they offer spin tracks when asian team tpur england? No, so they should better make their players learn spin or not tour to India 😂😂😂😂
Rob key is a whinging moaning cry baby
Excellent ..excllent show this is by far..really hope they r commentating on all around the world..
The most sensible discussion to happen around the pitches. Great discussion and dissection by the legends!
As many as 23 tests r finished in 2 days. England won 9 times Aus 7 times and SA 2 times.

How many of these tests were in the Jurassic era where pitches were not covered?

Rob Key is living in a imaginary world...wake up man...England is very poor side in subcontinent conditions...Sri Lankan cricket is in turmoil...Bangladesh would have been better prep to go into series against India.
Hussain and Atherton are amazing!! Can someone find Cry baby Rob Key his milk bottle. There is always an excuse, pitch was bad, india batted first, Umpiring was bad, England didnt have their full strength team on and on. Both teams played on the same pitch India were better end of story.
Atherton seems a genuine unbiased person. Love to listen him
12:48 Good question by Nasser. Funny answer by Rob, and an excellent point made by Atherton about the variety of pitches in Tests. That's what it's all about. I mean do you want all the games to go till last 10 overs of day 5.
Also, if you want to define what a good pitch is, based on how long a game lasts, and was there a balance between bat and bowl (as it should be I guess between evenly matched teams), where does the skills of teams come in to play? Where does wrong team selection comes into play? I think none of the two batted well against spin, but Indian spinners were far too good and skilled and England played only one regular spinner.
It gets even better 😂 Rob says last pitch was poor even when India scored 600, so it was poor only because Eng didn't bat well on that? Skills on these conditions, the difference. My point exactly on the comment above.
I feel sg pink ball slide so fast and batsmen couldn't adjust
Atherton and Nasser are ready to accept that England's batting on turning tracks needs improvement while Rob Key keeps on giving excuses.
True but it wasn’t a good pitch tbh.
The pitch was fine
Karthikaya Nagaraj It wasn’t by the letter of the law
India's batting on turning tracks needs improvement too
@@air144 I definitely agree with you. We have seen Moeen Ali run through the Indian batting line-up before. The Indian batting against pace bowling is okay. But against spin, India do struggle at times. I don't know what's the reason for this but I suspect it could be because Indian players (the regulars in the batting line-up) virtually don't play any domestic cricket at all.
Wasn't the game where Ireland rolled over England inside a session played at Lord's??
Na that was a combination of good bowling a green top and bad batting. Woakes and broad bowling 130 kmph isn’t dangerous
Leach scored 92 in that game, obviously not the same
