60,048 was the official attendance for the game of the season. I’m an American who has been watching Aussie rules football since it used to air on ESPN in the late 1980s to 2000. One of the most amazing sports in the world.
I just wish it were more popular in America and hope that one day the USAFL league will be just as popular as the NBA & NFL and draws the same type of talented athletes that would choose NBA or NFL. I doubt this will ever come to pass however hopeful I may be... maybe by 2060

My second favourite game is American football. Emit Smith is my favourite player of all time and I'm a Vikings fan. It's a awesome game.
as a neutral this was a great game to watch! full credit to both sides i thought geelong were gonna pump them but credit to richmond for coming back also credit for the cats coming back in the last when it looked like the tiges were going to run away with it. game of the year!

Mate I was at the game with my partner who goes for Richmond, I went and had a smoke after the 4th quarter started I honestly thought Richmond would steamroll us in the last so I delayed coming back, on my way up grabbed another couple of beers then got my seat and we were 17 points down I thought here we go, next minute jezzas put us in front then rioli kicked that goal and I thought we were gone, next minute Atkins Bursts out the middle and stengle runs on to it and Henry pack marks it and puts us in front again, the siren was sweet music to my ears what a game of footy!! Carn Geelong!! Fair to say I was in the doghouse that night!! 🤣🤣

I thought Richmond had the game after the rioli goal
and if lynch did better we could’ve won, mainly because he missed an easy goal, though we had very average players playing with others who did really well such as rioli and bolton so we’re far from perfect and it’s not just his fault. its also worth noting that Geelong were very good in the center of the oval which we could not counter

This was the first game I ever went to and it was a brilliant atmosphere
Geelong really killed us. At first i thought we were gonna get thump by 50 - 90 points. But we put up a massive fight against the premiership contender. Only a good effort by us and played very well in the last half.
Especially considering they had 13 more free kicks and took out prestia in the first.. fk i hate the umpiring this year its bullshit

@@telltellyn Indeed, Im a Richmond fan but the tigers game style must change in order for Richmond to not give away so many free kicks. This involves improving in our clearance/stoppage work as well as trying to get first to the ball more often in order to not give away so many sloppy free kicks.

I’m Geelongbut but if Melbourne are all fit and up and running they’ll win the flag by 10 goals easing up. With all things being equal they are so far ahead of the rest it’s not funny.
Richmond fan here but gg Geelong, this was a great game to watch where I honestly thought that Richmond were in for yet another belting against the cats but through their perseverance and gutsy efforts they were able to make this contest turn into one of the games of the year. It is completely understandable to see a lot of salty/butthurt tiger fans (I am one them as well) but my advice for us is to pull our heads in and look back at this game as a way to improve even more for the rest of the year.
The free kick count was a bit ludicrous, and somehow, even though you had 2 players out, still managed to comeback. That's impressive. I mean but at the same time geelong has like 6 key players out to injury, most notable of which being Dangerfield, Gary Rohan, Brendan parfitt, and shaun Higgins. the case could be argued either way, but nonetheless, it was still by far the best game of the year.

That was intense. There were momentum changes I didn’t anticipate. Richmond looked gone, then Geelong looked gone, and then we got the final 10 minutes. Tyson Stengel is a STAR. That final play and mark by Henry was something else.

I think Stewart’s high hit on prestia wasn’t completely intentional but it was still a careless act, so I would say a minimum of 3 weeks for him similar to dangers bump in rnd 1 last year.

I've watched the game a total of six times.
Yes I'm a passionate Tiger member, supporter , maybe I live and bleed yellow and black.
But slow motion and rewind again and again , I do not see any Richmond players dropping, falling, tripping , holding their hands up , asking , expecting a free.
The 2022 rising star, which he will win , has done this all game.

@@zksnxtrap Cheers legend, it was a great game to watch for both sides and I was on my feet throughout that match. It was a positive result for both sides where the cats were able to fight back momentum given the tigers were able to get their momentum back into the game but like Geelong does well most of the time it is somehow find a way to just hang on.
That was the moment Geelong knew they could win the 2022 Premiership

The game and skill lv of this game was insane. Proud of the tigers. Geelong just to good. To bad the umps and Geelong players should be ashamed of themselves. Geelong were way to aggressive and to many head knocks. Umps should be ashamed for keeping the game going and making Prestia walk off and the cart wait. Also not gaining control of geelongs aggression which was careless and could have cause more injuries.

we kept losing the ball from central positions, if we didn’t lose all the time from the bounce we wouldn’t have conceded as many I think (Richmond)
Yeah because Prestia, Cotchin, lambert were all out so we didn’t really have a solid midfield having to play bakes in there hurt us.
Scott afterwards already starting to build a defence for Tom. That was horrible and he should be gone for minimum of six weeks
Scott more or less said Stewart didn't mean to hurt him but it was a full on head shot. Let's just see what the tribunal does. I have little faith in them.

I’m a Richmond supporter but that was easily one of the games of the year, in my opinion Geelong shouldn’t have won this game due to last few minutes but well done on them for playing how they did.

It is similar like that we probably should have got belted early but throughout perseverance and resilience we were able to make a great contest out of nowhere but just fell short.

I’m a Geelong supporter and I think the conduct from Stewart was on purpose but the head high wasn’t. You can see his shoulder didn’t move up.
Also for the fact that Stewart is taller than Prestia making it harder to avoid the height of Prestia’s head.

Geelong got a goal when Prestia was lying on the field. Umpires didn't stop the game when the ball was literally kicked over him. Richmond lose by 3pts. They just weren't meant to win this game.

I agree, some of the decisions throughout the game was mind boggling. The umpiring was not the best throughout the game but I am well used to seeing Richmond get pipped in situations like this (Since 2016)

Read a lot of comments and agree it was a great game. But I believe Geelong targeted Prestia because they new how important he is to the tigers this year and if Tom Stewart doesn't get at least four weeks the tribunal should be abused. Disappointed not one tiger player went Stewart after the cowardly deliberate shoulder to Prestias head. He ment it.
if they were targeting him they wouldnt get their best player to do the dirty work and get weeks you sped.

Game of the Season but yet I’m not surprised to see salty tigers fans all over social media. Blaming the injuries for losing is ridiculous as Geelong were losing Gary Rohan, Parfitt, Shaun Higgins and Danger.
AFL need to get their game sorted. They're complaining about having record low attendance levels to games and failing to address why. Not paper tickets, but how poor the game is being babied, allowing things creep into the game that are not Australian Rules. Stand the mark, a ridiculous holding the ball ruling and just about anything else that could frustrate the 10-20+ year fan of the game. Disappointing.
It’s 0 degrees in Melbourne and the crowds are huge. TV crowd is huge. Don’t be salty. The game was one of the best this year. The holding the ball rule is good. Stop telling lies to cover the tears.
