I finally find how called my favorite type of blocks - this is a "chop block"! My friends very dont like it because they cannot effectively counter it and lose ball in more then 70% times!
Good blocking tactics, appreciate it! I just want to say, that I’m not using blocks so often, but when I use them I usually use the first block you mentioned, it’s probably the best. My tactic then is just to make some blocks and then change to attack when the ball comes right and the opponent doesn’t expect it. mostly a backhand loop or forehand topspin attack. :)
ive been self training myself for almost 7 years and my stronger side is blocking my types of blocking are Slow and Switch of course my opponents are mostly playing offensive and thats how i developed my blocking skills(kinda...) and watching this video now makes it even easier for me thx dude keep up the good work!
In my opinion, the chop block only be used when you are out of your position so it is just for remedial usage but not use it when you are well prepared
Joevy YT It depends if you are good at it and what rubber/blade you use. Using a specialist chop rubber, absolutely no one should be able to anything but push back your chop if you do it properly.
Very useful,I win more matches against my friends now. But the switch block does not really help cause my friends stand in the middle of the table. But still the rest are great.
The thing about these videos -- and I think it's probably inevitable -- is there's very little that these people who have spent years perfecting these specific, minute movements can actually say to teach you to do it like they do. They can make it look easy, but the reality is that none of it will be easy for you unless you're already well practiced and fundamentally quite solid.
This was my dads game, he was heavy and couldn’t move well. He was a master at it. We had him play one of the best players in the USA years ago. But we didn’t tell him who it was. My dad always played with the view that you were taking food from his family, so he was able to beat him every time. The man said to my dad that he’d never seen anyone play that good with blocking.
Hey, I think that you should create a new video as a part 2 to this, Tom. You need to tell people what they have to do with their feet immediately after each of these styles of blocks. It's incredibly important. You know this firsthand since those particular foot movements after blocks are a huge thing holding your level of play back. I actually think it's more important to teach TT players how to think about their next actions as soon as they finish each shot. It's where every single player on earth falters at multiple points in every single match. The higher the level, the less faltering there is. But, it's never NONE for anyone. And clearly, there's a major correlation between level of play and footwork. And as you look deeper into it, you find that footwork IS partial causation for level of play. So, since you struggle with the exact thing I'm talking about, why not make a part 2 to this and help the TT playing world out + practice something you should currently be working on personally, and kill two birds with one stone?
Hey thanks for the tips, I just started playing Eleven Table tennis VR and its amazing how your tips have a real effect in the game. not sure if you have tried VR it would be great to see what you think of the realisium aspects. thanks for ya tips.
In addition to the slow block, to slow down the speed even more we can move the bat towards our body right before in contact with the ball, imagine touching something hot and move away as soon as we touched it. This technique is called "吸" in Chinese TT and is translated into "suck", like sucking the ball towards you... you get the idea.
Excellent! I like to use it, especially unexpected, quickly off the bounce. Might I add another? To target the opponent's transition point, especially if pen holder. My Chinese friends referred to it an an "embarrassing point"!
If a player is attacking you with topspin, then you can play a block shot. In general, you block with the backhand, when ball is played to backhand side and block with forehand when ball is played to the forehand side. But sometimes I like to block with the backhand when ball is in the middle of the table.
Switch Block @ 0:55

I realized just now that I do the slow block to counter the speed 'rather unknowingly'. Thanks for the sum up. I will apply in my upcoming tournament.

Chop block is difficult and requires intensive practise. Switch block is highly effective. Should aim for corners

when should i do forehand or backhand and when is it a good idea to Block?
If a player is attacking you with topspin, then you can play a block shot. In general, you block with the backhand, when ball is played to backhand side and block with forehand when ball is played to the forehand side. But sometimes I like to block with the backhand when ball is in the middle of the table.
Thanks!
Is chop blocking possible with the forehand?
nice i subbed ;)
Tkank mr tom
It's about...the lesser things you do in a proper way and the more doer..I mean the hitter..the smasher....is more vulnerable to make a mistake
Do you use any power in blocking or you just easy direct the ball
