      But that was my point... :D What is annoying about not having anything to tinker with when it means you can use the PC, which is amazing? :-P
      Being done is the best part, you can play! :D

    • @Chrinik
      @Chrinik 7 років тому +5

      Michal Valta
      It´s a personal thing. If you ever do anything that is really fun, is the best part about it being done and not doing it anymore?
      No...choosing components, putting it all together and having it work is alot of fun...and again, this is about "annoying things about BUILDING your PC"...you are done building when you don´t have anything to tinker anymore. So the fun of building is over....so that´s annoying.
      Sure, you archieved your objective...but part of any creative or building project is actually doing the project, not "NOT" doing the project anymore...so an artist will not sit there and think "right, done with that, and it looks awesome...time to not do anything and just look at it"...No, the artist is gonna do his next work.

    *These should at least be some honorable mentions*
    -When UEFI decides that you haven't spent enough time with it (Hey fam!)
    -When you don't get all the pieces to components you ordered, and then have to wait for them to come in the mail (Don't take off your clothes and not f*** me...)
    -When the drivers aren't driving (Jesus, please take the wheel!)
    -When you go for that 1% more overclock that you saw on Tom's Hardware and your computer gives you the middle finger (Thank you RNG)
    and finally
    -When something better comes out less than three months later (Which is why I'm still single)

      Same, building my pc was honestly a bitch, I went super budget and the case was a mess. But yeah, honestly I love it

  • @rars0n
    @rars0n 7 років тому +6

    Okay, so my first build was back in like 1997 I think, I can't even remember (it was a K6-166 on my first love, an Abit motherboard of some sort that I can't even remember the name of. but it was JUMPERLESS and that was freaking AWESOME at the time because NOTHING was jumperless back then!), but I digress. I had to pause the video to comment because cable management is my absolute favorite thing about building PCs. I love it when the case gives me plenty of room and the motherboard layout just works and the power supply cables just happen to be the right length. When it's all going perfectly, it's beautiful.
    But when the case sucks, the power supply sucks, and the layout is just frustrating, I love that even more. I love the challenge of routing cables through something that was clearly designed to not give two shits about how you're going to make it look good. It may not turn out as clean as it does when everything goes perfectly, but it really challenges you to be creative. Anyone can make the perfect setup look good fairly easily, making crap parts look good is the real test.
    When my coworkers replace a PSU in a customer's computer, they basically just throw them in. When I do it, I wrap up the unused cables and tuck them away, I tie up any excess slack, and I do my best to make sure everything looks clean. Why? Because I respect myself and I want my work to look good, just in case anyone ever decides to peek inside (even though I know they won't). When I build a custom PC for someone, it's like that times a hundred. I hardly ever see the customs come back in, but when they do, even years later, I know right away that I built it just by how it looks on the inside.

    My biggest beef with pc building and in particular the youtubers who offer advice on pc building is the lack of explanation of what things are and what they do. It's ok for people who have experience in building pc's but for newbies like me I often get lost and confused when they mention, for instance, a certain cable you need and then move on without explaining what it is for or even what it looks like. I know this isn't a particularly big problem and I am in no way having a pop at the youtubers who offer the advice, it is incredibly helpful after all. I just think it would help people out even more if they spent a bit of time explaining why you need something, what said thing looks like and even what problems could be caused by.

      +Awesomesauce Network so the other day I was upgrading my PSU and holy balls all of those things happened at once. First I had to figure out s way to remove my old one cause it was so close to a fan in front of it, then I had to remove my liquid cooler cause it was blocking the 8pin cpu power connector. Then I had to remove all of those little pins to fit in the new psu. Finally I had to move my drive cages and one fan and rewire everything. The lesson here get a psu that will last you a long time, don't just get a temporary solution.

    The worst is, once you have everything mounted in, the cables are perfect, you close the lid and boot up the PC only for it not to POST... A good practice is to assemble everything quickly outside the case and see if it POSTs before you actually finally put it in.

    Honestly, the most annoying thing about a new PC isn't the building, it's the clean install that goes along with it... Installing updates, drivers and any software you care about is so time consuming and tedious even with an SSD and using Ninte to install the bulk of it, especially when you have to enter all your settings again for certain programs, speaking of which windows fucking settings.. I have fair amount of custom settings I have to reset, thankfully windows has that easy transfer thing to lighten the load but even that won't save everything so you'll still need to do some digging.

    You think all this sucks? Try backing up tons of data from an xp machine that doesn't recognize usb devices and is installed on a 10 year old ide hdd. Oh and all the data has to go to a sata drive. And you don't have a mb with both sata and ide. I did that.

    The most annoying this was the mounting bracket for the water block I bought. It fits perfectly fine but has nothing to hold it in place while you bolt down the block as you mentioned in this video. I can't mount the block with the system upright either as I use liquid pro and it'll pool down to the bottom of the CPU or even drip. My solution - I got some cheap package tape (the paper type with hardly any adhesive on it) and put .... a lot of strips across the mounting plate at the back, gripping on to the case and being careful not to stick it down to the MB it's self. You can't afford even 1 slight movement of the block once you drop it on the cpu with liquid pro, otherwise you have to do it all over again so spending the time to tape down the bracket and make sure it's solidly in place is worth it.

    Ive built my first PC last week, the problem is I have most of the screws left over, unidentified species of cables hanging around, two little ports to connect 4 of my fans, and getting a "NO SIGNAL" when I connect to my monitor, yes I have wiggled and moved my RAM lol. SOME HELP ME PLS

    • @LinkyouOffical
      @LinkyouOffical 8 років тому

      If you have free molex cables (if you have a modular power supply check your box and search for some molex cables) then get 2 of these multi connectors: www.amazon.com/Zalman-ZM-MC1-Multi-connector-Add-Fan/dp/B000FAKUE6, one mutli connector can power 4 fans in total, but the main magic is that those fans which are plugged into the 5V cables will run with 5V instead of 12V and that will mean that those fans will be going at about 40% [you will have much less noise, while your components' temperatures will be only 2-3 celsius higher] (only use it for case fans though, and not for the CPU fan, if you have 2 CPU fans or more you can plug for example 1 of the two in that Zalman connector.
      If you dont have any molex cables hanging around, then just get some (for instance 2) Y splitters for your fans, but before that check if those have 3 or 4 pins, that's important.
      I heard that you have no signal:
      0th-check the cable and if the cable (DVI / VGA / HDMI) is connected correctly or not!
      1st-reseat the graphics card (also check the power connector)
      2nd-try to boot it up
      3rd-reseat the RAM modules and place them into another slots (if available)
      4th-try to boot it up again
      5th-remove one of the RAM modules (it may be faulty)
      6th-try to boot it up
      7th-place the removed RAM module back and remove the other module
      8th-try to boot it up
      These steps should fix your problem.
      P.S.: My brother overclocked his PC and he has a 6 years old MSI motherboard, he gets no signal on start, but he always presses the restart button on the case and everything just boots up fine. So if you have overclocked your CPU it can solve your problem. (Fingers crossed)

      Maybe you put your GFX card in the wrong PCIe slot. Mine didn't work until i moved it to the first slot (it was nicely nestled up to my heatsink after...). I learnt this by plugging in the HDMI into the slot on the mobo, and the bios told me what was wrong (what an age we live in!)

    That last point really hits home. I just put together my first computer and ended up cutting my hand on the Hyper 212 EVO cpu cooler. Luckily I only started bleeding after my hand was away from the cpu cooler so no blood got on the radiator. The machine sure does run like a champ though. Building a computer takes a lot of patience the first time but feels so damn good when everything boots up perfectly.

    My case fan cables were too short to plug it into MOBO so I had to plug them directly to PSU, which was just an annoyance because if I want them to be quieter I can just use some control sliders I got on top of my case, but if I could just control those with software, it could be a bit better in longer run.

    The most annoying thing about building my PC for the first time a few weeks ago was the darn motherboard not detecting the RAM. Not only that but when I got to MicroCenter to buy the 2133MHz Kingston HyperX FURY they were closed so I gad to wait until the next day. I had to get an additional 8GB RAM module with a lower speed, to be able to get into the BIOS to update it and change the speed of the RAM to be able to use the Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 32GB DRAM 3200MHz kit that I had bought for the PC. That and having to install and uninstall the Cooler Master Hyper 612 Ver.2 every time to change the RAM.

    • @chrisbaker8533
      @chrisbaker8533 8 років тому

      I don't think i've ever seen a mobo that that will work in with a single stick of ram.
      Most manuals i've ever read it's always single in slot 1, the closest to the cpu.
      Now of course after the first stick it can get down right weird how they have to be installed.

    • @LRM12o8
      @LRM12o8 8 років тому

      Chris Baker Yeah, you should *always* check the manual. If you don't have a manual, it may stand on the mobo itself, which one is slot 1 or you can test it like A Fox said.
      there are mobos that run with one stick. I've seen a prebuilt pc mobo with 2 slots and only one stick. I wonder if not basically any mobo should work with one ram stick?

    I'm amazed you never brought up the two different screw sizes, or the fact that 2.5", 3.5", and 5.25" drives are not only not literally those sizes, but they don't scale up well. For example, you can't vertically stack 2x 3.5" drives in a 5.25" bay.
    I never minded the front-panel headers, except when they're either inversed or when the power LED either has 2 separate wires or where the two wires are separated by a dummy.
    Not having the right power connector never bothered me too much - it's a little annoying but converters are dirt cheap.

  • @Bs60182

    As someone with shitty motor control, I'd have to mention that working in anything other than ATX cases is a pain in the butt for me. Yes, mini-ITX builds are cute and sexy as all get-out, but if I drop a single screw in there or accidentally wedge a Molex or SATA connector behind the GPU before moving on to cable management, the self-hatred grows to immense levels.
    I mean, magnetic screwdriver bits are cool and all, but Cerebral Palsy means microstutters in your hands at nearly all times, and the occasional accidental and jerky gesture. *That* inevitably means losing screws near the motherboard, even with a magnetic bowl or organizer set aside.
    Considering, when a friend or family member wants me to check out their supposedly sweet gaming-enabled Barebones PC building project, I usually end up wanting to choke a female of the Canis Familiaris genus...

    Back in the day, dealing with DMA and IRQ conflicts. Then freeing up enough base memory to run programs through various edits of Autoexec.bat and Config.sys and memory managers. Placing them in different spots in the file affects how much you get and was always a trial and error as it logically didn't make any sense sometimes; absolute madness.
