Perfect balance of video and narrative; you never "talk it to death," your narratives are informative and entertaining. Nothing worse than a guy who drones on and on without SHOWING YOU SOMETHING! - Hope you had fun in Nashville!
Thank you for the input! And Nashville was a freaking blast, as always!
Nice job, thanks to these videos I put up my own garage :)
That is awesome!
Man i guess experience gets you speed. Me and a church buddy have spent the last 4 Saturdays, a few additional days by myself, and a couple hours a day just about every day after work and so far the framing, housewrap, and roof is done. Framing took 2 weekends, roofing took 2 weekends as we had inclement weather. I feel like I'm never gonna finish this thing.
heh, I was thinking something similar. I am an IT engineer but m dad was a master carpenter and built 12 houses all by himself. Sadly, I was a 'teenager' and didn't want to learn or do that work then... but now, at 47, I wish I had! I built a 12x12 shed on a 4in 12x16 slab (4' overhang on the shed for a porch area)... I had a friend help me 1 day and my brother helped me one other day and those days were basically lifting the walls. I did not have any help any other days! It took me throughout the winter of this past year but I finally got it all wrapped up, framing wise, by end of Feb. I bought engineered trusses and I just gorilla'd them up the side by myself. I am in NW Ohio so we had a lot of wind and a lot of rain... but once I got all the framing done I paid a guy to finish the aluminum soffit (I did that back side but at that point, I was 'done' with it.... and he did the vinyl siding too! I put 2 windows and a nice front door, I did pay someone to install an 8'x7' garage door (I still did all the framing). Earlier this summer I dug out in front of the garage and did the forms for a ramp and finished it myself too. It was frustrating (I was worrying about the trusses so much I developed a rash.... under my epidermis on the palms of my hands and bottom of my feet... and I have NEVER ever had anything like that before)... Sorry to make this so long, but now that it is all over with (I still have a little landscaping I want to do), I am actually thinking of ANOTHER structure, lolol.. I thoroughly enjoyed that experience (looking back). Where abouts are you located?
@Trainspotting944 I’ve built literally hundreds of garages over the years, and probably 30 now by myself…you’re not doing too bad if building isn’t your normal line of work.
Hi, I'm from Russia, I just accidentally wandered into your channel and got stuck. It is a pleasure to watch your work. Good luck 😊👍
Thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos!
Thanks for this, it’s almost exactly what I want to build for a shed/shop.
It’s a great size for a workshop👍
One of your best videos yet. Clear and to the point. I like the way you explain .good job
I appreciate that! I never think I make any sense🤷♂️
Have watched quite a few of your DIY videos and written down quite a few pointers for myself from watching you. I'm going to tackle a 24 x 36 garage next year. I'm pretty handy with some carpentry background. My dad was a carpenter his entire life so I know any problems I run into would be just a phone call away from getting the answer. That said, watching your videos has given me tons of info for taking on this job by myself. I appreciate the time you put into these and the extra info you throw in for doing these jobs by yourself.
Awesome! Thanks for watching! Good luck with your build!
I am glad Mike turned me on to your channel. I need to build one soon and after watching 30 videos of you doing it, I am sure I will screw something up but at least I will look like I know what I am doing. For the first 3 months anyway. ":)~
Heck, I screw things up all the time!
Would be nice to see a a garage built into a hill and how to frame on top of the concrete walls and pair them with the 9ft on the opposite side.
I’m sure someone has a video out there!
I have enjoyed the mild voiceover format on this one. Anyone who doesn’t appreciate it can use the mute.
Keep up the great work.
Glad you enjoyed it! I figured I’d try something different on this video.
Good day Sir, glad to see you uploaded a video, I hope everything is going good in your neck of the woods
Everything is great…because I’m on vacation!😂
@@MyDIYAdventures Vacation? Never heard of it before, Have fun Man
@SuperDk1978 my kids are moved out, I’m done doing the 7 day work week…time to enjoy some traveling while these knees still work!
Great job on this video, the audio and everything else was great!!!!
You did a very nice job. I always hate to see all that hard work and no 2x10's for ceiling/floor joist 16"O.c and a nice 12 pitch roof. No one ever complains they have too much room in their garage.
I don’t disagree, but this is just a big shed.
Good job man! Greetings from Brazil.
Obrigado! I have quite a few viewers from Brazil, very cool!
@@MyDIYAdventures yes! It's great! In Brazil, the construction tradition is masonry, but for some years now, the wood frame has been gaining more and more ground, and there are even schools teaching it. I love working with wood.
Wood framing has always seemed to be a US thing, it’s interesting to hear that it’s catching on in other places!
Great refresher video for me as I’m getting ready to build a utility shed of a similar size. However I’m curious why you don’t run more overhang on the sides and gable ends for water run off.
It all depends on what package the customer buys, this garage was the cheapest.
I have to build a couple sheds at my place next spring. I'm picking up some tips. I may go up to this size. Not a fan of a tool belt?
I don’t work fast enough to need a tool belt LOL. I don’t even have it in my truck currently.
I wish you were out here in So. Ca. for when I start my shop....LOL
I definitely can’t make that commute LOL
@@MyDIYAdventures , yeah that would be a bit of a commute….lol
Great video !!! i have seen framers rack the walls with osb , assuming that if the osb is square the it will make your building square , they way you do it making your corners plumb is the correct way !!!
Ken’s Karpentry always plumbed their walls in that way. That really only works if you’re on a perfectly level slab.
Great job, thank You
Thank you too!
Awesome details & video ! ! Going to build this same size garage on my property. Do you have any blue prints or specs for this ? Thanks again ! 👍⚾️
Not yet! But I’m hoping to make things available to be downloaded for a few bucks in the next couple months.
Sounds great 👍 I will definitely like to purchase those when you do !
Need a video like this but with no concrete. Other ways and builds with gravel floor instead. Can't afford cement prices these days.
You can pour footers and build your walls on them, or you can build a post-frame building…unfortunately I don’t have any videos on that.
Watched this all the way through. How much of a grade are the concrete slabs?
Are the OSB on the walls uneven?
This slab was pretty level, so the OSB is pretty straight.
Great Job.. You’re a great storyteller and great framer. This makes you my 7th favorite you-tuber. Keep up the good work. At 44:32 in the sky did you see the bald eagle fly by?
Thanks, I always think I’m terrible at explaining things! Nope, I didn’t notice a bald eagle🤷♂️
Holy moly! I cracked the top 10!😎😂
@@MyDIYAdventuresme either just thought I’d make you look. Keep up good work.
When you sight your boards for the walls do you crown them in or out? I see you sighting every board on every build but I don't think I heard if you put the crown to the inside or the outside and why? I put the crown to the outside as nailing plywood is stronger than drywall so I find that straightens them and holds them better, would love to hear your thoughts.
I put the crown up when I’m laying the studs on the ground, that keeps them from wobbling around while I nail them. I mentioned it in another video I think.
As per code you need more king and jack studs on that header..
Nope
@@MyDIYAdventures R603.7 Jack and King Studs if 16-INCH O.C. STUD SPACING....
Maybe in your area, but not here.
Do you ever do slightly-oversized garages? I'm curious your opinion on if a client wanted an 11' wall - would it be cheaper and/or easier to build an 8' and 3' stud and stack them, or the materials to make a true 11' tall wall? Any complications or advice on that?
I have done bigger garages. Build it as an 11’ wall, I don’t even think stacking walls would pass inspection.
Great vid
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
Attached garage to the house or unattached?
Which is better?
Gable roof so I could continue the roof.
I seen your attached garage video so I know everything would have to be 16" on center but thats ok.
It all depends on what you want🤷♂️
@@MyDIYAdventures what if my house foundation is moving?
@ I’d definitely remedy that before adding on!
@MyDIYAdventures bought the house in 2017, in the closet (on the carport end) there was a half inch crack between the two perimeter walls.
I filled it in and painted.
It hasn't cracked yet.
Have you ever installed a 6' roll up door?
I have actually!
Whats happening brother, so my question is, when I do my corners do I L shape 2 2×4's ? Please help a brother out
That’s how I do it! I’m told they call that a California corner.
