  • Today I built an easy no mess quail waterer out of pvc pipe. This pipe will hold about 8/10ths of a gallon of water. This allows the quail to always have fresh drinking water and you don't have to fill the waterer up quite as much.

    You always do good work! I’m a little surprised you didn’t need to angle the feeder tube to assist gravity, but I can assure you I’ve NEVER made a quail waterer!! Way to go!!

    Kevin... Great idea!.... Excellent tutorial!
    Quick and dirty calculations for the water in 3" pipe is about 46 ounces (third gallon), 4" about 60 ounces (half gallon) & 6" about gallon and a half per foot. Maybe a 1" ball valve in cap on the sump drain? No chance of leaking.

      @@HiddenHeightsFarm I was concerned about after a few times on and off then the the plastic threads start to wear and stretch retightening plug each time. Those plugs were like you said were for above ground sewer cleanouts with no pressure.
      If it was on top not too much worry but on bottom with 2' of water head pressure on it may have to teflon it each time you drain it. If there's a way out water will find it following the threads even with low pressure.... lol

    What a great idea. I like your idea of not using and 5 gallon bucket and the clean out valve. For your heating needs in the Winter you might look into a submersible aquarium heater. You can completely submerge them and hook up your electric cord to your power source. Eheim Jager Aquarium Heaters work really well and I have two of them. They would definitely fit in your tube where you put the main water source. They come in multiple sizes according to how many gallons of water you are maintaining at a certain temp. The only part that might be a problem might be the water nipples unless you use some form of insulation. Otherwise it would work.

    • @desertdawg3409
      @desertdawg3409 4 роки тому +2

      Great idea for tank, and yes smallest part of valve (1/4") will freeze first unless water is circulated past valve. Cold drops and heat rises in stagnant system. In aquarium water is constantly circulating.

      I wonder if there is a heat tape you could add for the pvc pipe that would be safe for animals?

    • @desertdawg3409
      @desertdawg3409 4 роки тому +1

      Check out Frostex... Cut to length, waterproof, self regulating, low power heat tape. I've used it before but different applications. Kept small pond from freezing solid in Jersey and made 'hot rocks' for terrariums, gluing couple feet to bottom of a flat stone without temp controller for critters to lay on when they got cold .
      Maybe fish it thru full length of pipe.

    If you put a hole in the reservoir near the bottom, and make it so you can attach some clear tubing to it, then run the tubing up the outside of the reservoir to the top, then you would have a visual indicator of the water level. To make it even more easily visible drop a tiny colored ball that floats down the clear tube. I used to do this with 1500 gallon stainless steel apple juice tanks so I didn't have to climb to the top to see how much juice was in it.

    Hello. My name is Debbie. Do u glue the pipes? If u glue them they shouldn't leak. Me and my husband have been doing alot of plumbing lately since we are reminding our bathroom. Some times if u primer them before glueing it helps Some times it seems to not help. It's something you'd just have to test out. Once u glue it its there if it leaks you'd have to cut that part off and get more fittings to make it fit or start over. I'm not trying to sound rude or a know it all. Just been helping my husband alot lately and learning. Hope everything goes the way u want it to. Have a great day.
