"Cheek to Cheek" is a song written by Irving Berlin in 1935, for the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers movie Top Hat (1935). In the movie, Astaire sings the song to Rogers as they dance. The song was nominated for the Best Song Academy Award for 1936, which it lost to "Lullaby of Broadway". The song spent five weeks at #1 on Your Hit Parade and was named the #1 song of 1935. Astaire's 1935 recording with the Leo Reisman Orchestra was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000. In 2004, Astaire's version finished at No. 15 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema.
Watching in 2024.
I love these old-time movies with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. So romantic!
I really wish movies from this were more accessible to watch via streaming.
turner classic movies you can find them
BBC IPlayer had them for free (most)
Go to the mall. I'm sure they have a DVD department
We have 'Rakuten' (app for smart TV) that has a lots of classical movies for streaming
Or, sometimes it's on TV (Samsung TV or classic movies channel on cable TV (with replay option so that you can pick))
I agree, it's a cultural tragedy that these films aren't more available.
I hope to dance with Fred Astaire one day in heaven .❤
I used to want to dance with her, until I read her book and the way she denigrated Astair.
Such elegance never to be repeated in this sad world we live in now
I admit that the vibe of life in the time and world of today has lost the spark, charm and unique unexpected beauty of the days of old. However life is still what YOU make of it ;)
IT REALLY FEELS LIKE I'M IN HEAVEN WATCHING GINGER ROGERS AND FRED ASTAIRE AND I CAN SEE THEM BOTH IN HEAVEN DANCING THEIR BEAUTIFUL HEARTS OUT 🙏🏼🙏🏼🫂🕊🪽🕊🪽💃🕺
Her dress is fabulous!!!
Ginger designed the dress
Seu vestido é fabuloso.
It was a nightmare to dance in. Bits were flying all over the place according to Ginger 😂
The dress is perfection, and for me, Ginger and that dress steal the show.
Must be the most iconic dance sequence of all time.
What more could you want in this horrible World than this sublime dance. ❤️
it might just be all we have to hang onto....that there once was grace and beauty in this world....
the World was horrible in 1935
There will never be anything like Astaire/Rogers again
Apparently Fred Astaire's favourite dance partner was Rita Hayworth.......let's pause for thought!!!!!!
This was the first, only, and last movie John Coffey ever watched, and just watching the real thing actually makes My heart feel heavy... 😢
Who is this person you speak of?
@@user-kh6oq9oe6tit's from a movie called "the green mile"
@@user-kh6oq9oe6t One of the main characters in The Green Mile movie (1999)
You do realize that John Coffey is a fictional character in a fictional movie, right?
In The Green Mile, why hasn’t John Coffey (Michael Clark Duncan) ever seen a movie in his whole life? He was shown this movie before he was executed in the electric chair.
Happy 125th Birthday to Fred Astaire! 🎉❤
DAMMIT FORGOT HIS BIRTHDAY THIS YEAR
@@bigdaddy-bq5oy That’s alright I forgot Ella Fitzgerald’s Birthday this year

Why theys angels, angels from heaven
Great stroll down memory lane. 🙏😊❤️
That super heavy dress covering Ginger's face and the floor with feathers is a character in itself ❤ This scene is just as perfect as it gets.
I've just watched this really stoned and for the first time I've seen past it's age and I know what John coffee meant Angels! Seen it lots of times but wow just now it blown me away.
TY Restoration peeps❤
OMG...Thank God, REALLY.
Magic of Hollywood 😃
I can't explain it but watching this makes me tear up and smile.
I understand....this was my Gramma's fav film. She raised me and has been gone 20 years now so it sort of kills me to watch it but I must....bittersweet.
It’s because wholesome movies and music is no longer being produced.
Alot of it, is we wish we could have had something like this.
Brings back a time when America was on top in every realm including the music, everything else pales in comparison!
america is still # 1 always has been 😉
@@DjLou82Admiro mucho a los EEUU pero el comentario es cierto, ya no se hacen películas con esta calidad de actores y tanta elegancia. En esa época hubiera sido imposible que personajes de tan mal gusto como las kardashian, sean populares.
their will never be people that had such class like this ever again. such a sad thought. we can only see these beautiful souls and wish we had these beautiful days and people back. it was all about how you loved and admire someone, now it everything is different and not for the better.
These movies were so much fun to watch, I miss them😢
Perfection. The highest art form.
Feelings perfectly expressed through dance.
Super classic.
I love it!
Incredible performance. They make it look so easy.
Nothing, nothing can beat this 😊
Absolutely, I agree 🎉
Breathtaking.
Art saves souls.
And this is art at its finest form
I love it! And I respect Ginger Rogers so much for dancing so well in this kind of long floor-reaching dress in high heels
It's wonderful ❤❤❤❤❤
Magnificent
They don't make 'em like that anymore.
Sublime
Truly a classic.
So beautiful ❤❤
If you are like me you have a desire for film makers to focus on less violence and more art form.
Yes indeed they don't make entertainers or such wonderful music like this anymore
May St. John Coffey can always joyfully dance with the two girls in heaven.
🤍
una obra de arte
The Green Mile. Loved ‘ol John Coffey.

2:59 - This clip from Top Hat (1935) was briefly shown in 1975 Coca-Cola commercial for "Look Up, America" campaign.
God they were magical
The movement at 2:32 is simply perfect, so elegant
i love how the feathers on the dress makesa slow motion effect when the dance slows down
Marvelous!!!
Wow! Just says it all regarding Fred & Ginger it’s 2024 and the same will be said 3024.

😢 O decote monumental da Ginger Rogers, nos devolve a terra mesmo nessa cena Divina.
With the way the world is now. I watch this every now and then. To calm my mind. Wishing to find a woman to love like this. No games or tricks. Just honest love.

The Green Mile 😢
La canzone dei miei genitori che la ballavano davvero cheek to cheek
Joker 2 is taking inspiration (ahem ahem) from this.
This part was shown in The Green Mile.
And don't forget Coca-Cola commercial for "Look Up, America" campaign from 1975.
Yes I know it's not real, but I wish to god I could travel back and live in that world, not the horrible one we are condemned to live in now.
Whilst I love these old movies; they're simple, and beautiful. I do think that some context is needed.
This is a fictional, and idolized depiction of how 0.001% of the population would have lived. The majority of people were a level of poor we would struggle to imagine. Infant mortality, and sickness were major issues even in the richest of countries. Also, 1935, in four years the worst war the world has ever known was about to kick off, it was a very bad time to be a Jew in Europe... Segregation was still a thing. You can forget about gay rights, etc. Women, whilst they were beginning to gain some equality, and recognition, were still very much second class citizens in many respects (equal pay, and opportunities, weren't really a thing).
So yes, whilst there's a lot wrong with our current world/time, let's not go imagining that the past was all roses.
Weird that I stumbled upon this comment thinking the same thing and I am only 32 years old
You think the 1930s were any better than now? Or do you mean the world within the film?
Yeah cause segregation happened then yall need context
I would like to ser more mobis like this are so beautiful
They don't make them like that any more!
Nice 😎✨✨✨
Fred suports Ginger with his leg when she is bent over backward.
Muhteşem ❤🦋💐
Un clasicasooo
Wow😢
Every like this comment gets, I scream once.

I’d love to see it in colour…just to see it…

Where is this print from? I"ve never seen it look this good! What's the source? It's fantastic. Thank you.
it never looked this good even when it was released, just like the original Star Wars which was digitally remastered to remove the film grain.
It is from a Japanese print.
@@VideoFunForAll Thanks. Is it the Japanese Blu Ray from a couple of years ago or is this a new release?
Thanks again!
The green mile brought me here
AMEI.
Stan Laurel well coiffed and with tails... 😋. But seriously: it's great.
