@@Ladosligese really happy as a first bike. Its a little small for my height (190 cm) after all but with a bit higher handlebars it will be great.
Picked this just because of budget. Intruders are way more expensive in my country. Its a twenty year old bike and you will notice. Breaks are not the best. Handling is great. Power is good for a 800 but wouldnt recomend for longer highway rides daily. Overall i see myself riding this a year of two and then upgrading to a newer model cruiser.
@@Ladosligese I’ve had mine for 2 years with only 7300 miles. It’s starting to annoy me. If it sits for more than 2 weeks, something goes wrong with it and I can’t get it to start. I think my fuel pump gave out last week....
I just picked one up as my first bike. It looked like a great bike for a great price. I got it for $700 with a title.
The Maurauder VZ800 is an awesome bike. I bought one as my first bike nearly 5 years ago when I was 25. This past September I was hit by an SUV and the bike was totaled. My life is not the same, not only from the injuries but because I lost the bike I loved so much. I know it is only an 800cc twin, but this model gets up and goes. I have personally raced 883's and left them in the dust, I also raced a couple larger bagger style Harleys and inched ahead of them through my 2nd and 3rd gears (this bike loves 2nd, 3rd and 4th). My bike only had a jet kit and slip on exhaust (impossible to find full kit for the pre 99 models with the rear cyl. exhaust running under the frame) but everyone who rode with me was surprised by just how well it held its own against bigger bikes. Being a mechanic, I took pride in perfectly tuning and synchronizing the dual seperate carbs (one side-stream one down-stream connected by cables) made my own sync tool out of salad dressing bottles, vacuum tubing, a 2x4 and water with food coloring lol. I also did some other work but it was mostly cosmetic. The only real fault I had with this bike was the weak clutch springs, heavy duty springs are cheap and readily available though. I absolutely loved this bike, it was more than a toy to me, it was my main means of transportation 9 months out of the year and something that made me fall in love with motorcycling. I often think/dream about when I will be able to buy another bike and while I feel like I should move up to a big V-Twin I keep finding myself longing for another Marauder VZ800. There is just something about that bike Ioved so much, it had power, handling, looks and never once left me fatigued (I did have a nice mustang seat and highway pegs). One cool thing I liked about the way my bike was setup was with my feet on the highway pegs I could operate the shifter and brake with my heel just by sliding my foot down so the peg was on the ball of my foot not the arch. Nothing felt better than tearing up a windy Ct shoreline road and being able to upshift/downshift with my feet up on the highway pegs. Ug, just thinking about it makes me miss that bike so much :/ Anyways, this is a great bike, whether its your first bike or not.
Seth Francis Sim Racing your comment is the deciding factor. I’m getting a decently used 99 marauder for my first bike, it’s gonna be my daily driver for 9 months until I’ve been at my job for a year. (Financing troubles)
But I’m excited to ride and I’m glad the bike hold a place in someone’s heart, hopefully I grow to love mine the same.
23 and about to start my journey of 365 day riding season. Can’t wait to be cage free.

They're pretty damn loud in reality. I have a 2004 with a cobra pipe. Great sound, it just might not please the neighbors lol.

I just selled my 1998 Marauder today. My heart is bleeding now... Such a good bike! It was my partner 9 years long, and in this time i haven't had a single issue with it. I recommend this ride with a good heart!

i bought mine brand new in 1997. still ride it! still runs better than new. i put a belt drive on it. what an improvement. 5 k on belt so far .awesome.

Got an MSR exhaust and sounds awesome, far better than the stockpipes. I love it!
I had a 04' VZ800 for about 10 years before selling and getting the big brother VZ1600. I put just about every piece of Chrome possible on that 800, added LEDs, rejetted, added a Mustang seat and floorboards. About the only thing I didn't do was the belt conversion. Great bike. I'm really happy though now with the Marauder 1600.
I Have a 2000 and am trying to find the best place to order parts for it to change up some things, ymdo you mind if I ask where you got most of yours from?
@@GNRDisturbedSlash so for the VZ800 I was gobbling up parts for it from 2004-2010 when I owned it. At the time a lot of the parts were being discontinued (specifically the line of chrome Suzuki made) and so I was trying to get everything while I could. I also got some HighwayHawk from overseas. I think if you just need replacement parts places like online/local Suzuki dealers, DennisKirk, ebay, etc. Scootworks at the time also had some parts. The problem is today that bike has been out from production for over 15 years and so the nice chrome upgrade parts are harder to find. Check ebay for 'VZ800' or 'Marauder 800' to see what you can find as well as internet searches. Great bike, have fun!

Hi man how is the 1600 compared to the 800? is t much heavier bike and is the power of the 800 'enough' ?

@@riciardoverbeek I really like the 1600. Yes it's a heavier / beefier bike. Much sturdier. A lot more power too. The 1600 is fuel injected, so quick and refined power. The 1600 is getting hard to find as it stopped production years ago, but I still enjoy the bike. The 800 had good power after I rejetted it and changed the rear sprocket. Very quick bike the 800 was after that mod.
This was the second bike I owned. It was a great bike. Then I got a flat on the rear doing 80 miles an HR on i84. Luckily it was in the rear.
I have gotten so many flats on the I84. In cars too not just bikes.
The "where's they key, where's the choke" got me 🤣... I had the same problem with it for the first 2-3 months. Also the seat release, every friggin time. My first bike, bought a 2002 Marauder in 2021.
I love your videos!!! I honestly always loved sport bikes until I happened to drive past my 2001 Suzuki Marauder 800 beauty I fell inlove and made it my first bike last summer!! I couldn't be happier with it and I can't wait to get an exhaust system for her this year 👍☺ Keep up the amazing videos!
Great bikes, I have a 97, bobbed rear fender, apes, solo seat, pipes, forwards, and 5 3/4 inch bates headlight. I love it. Can keep up with the boys on the big twin Harleys no problem and it rides sweet in the twisties. If you only do one mod on this bike swap the stock 15 tooth front sprocket for a 17, makes for longer gears and a more relaxed cruising speed.
i did better than that .go see mine at my thumb nail. bought mine new in 97 .still ridin it.and yes this thing not only keeps up with big harleys. i can nose up my buddies 103 " twin cam dyna by a bike length in a quarter mile. it is really the weight to power ratio . that dyna weighs almost 800 lbs. the Marauder is the absolute lightes 800 i have ever seen. i have an 800 kawasaki vulan and it can not even come close to the marauders performance. i jetted it made the exhaust and belt drive. made forward controls and a new seat , made 34 " drag bars of stainless and custom made risers. it finaly fits now. still never split cases or replaced clutch . has over 60 k and no slip. no leaks and reliable. that said , i have 4 other bikes and this Marauder is my favorite. 1975 BMW R90S , 1995 Vulcan 800 A , 1998 Vulcan 1500 Classic, 1999 FXSTD Deuce with tc 88 and chrome EVERYTHINg. Suzuki makes some well engineered machines. ii won't parr wit it till im dead.

I bought a '99 just a month ago today for just $1000 and now that I've got the charging system sorted out I'm loving it. All in all I've put probably about $1400 into it and the thing came with straight pipes, idk if the jets were done but it sure feels like it. Something I'll have to check out. It's a bit of a hot rod for a first bike but I wouldn't have it any other way. Hell, I had a friend test ride it (big guy, probably around 280lbs) and the thing lifted right up on him when he went into 2nd gear (hence why I'm pretty sure the jets have been done). Guy I bought it off of wanted something to get him to 200mph but I wasn't gonna argue with the price he had it listed for. Thing was a steal. Great vid, and btw, a marauder is actually a looter, a pirate, which I think is pretty cool!

Solid little bike. I had one in my 20s. Did the popular "GS3 rejet" with giant ass pod filters, ground pounder exhaust, and this thing turned into a whole different bike. Probably gained about 10 hp/torque putting it in the 60's for both specs, but at 460lbs it made this little thing fly.
I bought a 97 marauder a few months ago im having a ball on it. At 6'2 its a little tight for me. Getting some short apes to help stretch it out a bit but a strong bike

Simply put robbers that are not afraid to cause hell and mayhem to get what they want. Got to love Suzuki names, Intruders and Marauders. Bit juvenile and edgy but still awesome. And easy to remember too. Much better than random letter picked with a Dart throw and a number added behind.

It will beat a 883 mine did every time. I raced 3 different ones multiple times each and won every time and I was about 230lbs at the time
That bike is suffering from the usual Marauder short comings. Weak clutch (you can hear it slipping) which can easily be fixed by replacing the clutch springs with stronger ones. Start ups can be challenging due to a MMM being a crappy design. You can bypass the MMM easily and it will fire right up afterwards. If you install the GS3 (Grant's Stage 3 kit) and change the front sprocket you can surpass the 883's easily and keep up with the 1100cc big boys. Great bike for the price. Get two! They are that cheap.

I have the 2000 model and had to replace my clutch plates pretty soon after getting it.
@@kartoshka1952 How many miles were on it? I have a 1999 with 15,000 miles on it and it think my clutch is shot too.

These are really great bikes for anyone to ride. Even the newer Boulevard series with the 805cc V Twin run really strong. Surprisingly they can pull a quicker quarter mile than the bigger Intruder/S83 VS1400 engine from Suzuki,,,I know hard to believe right? I haven't rode one personally, but own a mint condition 05 S83 Boulevard. The market is so flooded with HD bikes where I live,,I have a dealer just up the street,,that even the HD prices are going down compared to before. The Suzuki lineup was always a great bike and should never be overlooked by anyone. I have a younger fella who stopped today and wants to buy my S83, or his buddies, "modified" Marauder as in your video. I will never cut another bike without seeing it or talking to the owner. I simply told him to ask a few basic questions about what was done with the Constant velocity carbs when the new pipes were installed..I've seen more burnt valves and ruined engines from supposed "modified" bikes. They run so factory lean as it is and then have someone who is clueless throw on some pipes is a bad idea..lol! I've replaced many stock HD carbs for people and put on a real carb...A Mikuni TM series flatslide pumper carb..now that makes a difference you can feel over any exhaust kit or stock CV carb kit..expensive but worth it..and I've built bikes for years...You would of loved my fully modded DR650se I built myself. .I can't fit all the engine mods and suspension mods and SM set up I built it into on here...long enough response already..From a big valve head and pumper carb to you name it,,,it had it,,fun build...It waxed V Twins for lunch up to 90mph with no issue whatsoever, even my S83 had no chance! It was written up about the build on Bike World..They were so interested in what you could do to a DR650 and were highly impressed in what that bike was capable of. My next ride is going to be an ADV type bike...Maybe a new V Strom 1000, although there is more, ADV ready bikes on the market...thanks for the vids,,and sorry for the long response..sorry can't help it as bikes were always my thing,,riding, racing, and wrenching.
Hey man. I'm considering getting a bike in the near future and I've really been watching a lot of your videos lately. I've really been leaning towards a Honda Shadow, but I've seen these too. I know this video is a few years old, but how does the Marauder compare to the Shadow when it comes to comfort, ride smoothness, and handling? And is the Suzuki on the same level of reliability that the Hondas are? And, it's hard to tell for sure by watching and listening to what's happening in a video, but how do the bikes compare when it comes to sound of the pipes? Just curious with that one. Thanks in advance!

Just picked up the same bike and year only my letters are yellow it’s been a love hate with it but only because it keeps just completely draining my battery so I changed stator and rectifier and now she won’t turn over I’ll get working soon though because it’s a blast to ride plenty of speed and torque for sure

It'd be cool to hear more maintenance reviews on some of these bikes. Like, since bikes you have to remove exhaust 👀. Or some with 4 carbs and they're harder to tune. Etc

I've got mine as my first bike 2 years ago. It's great! I love it. However voltage regulators are ****. I have to change it every season, because it's stops working.

I bought my 2002 Marauder brand new and it’s been a fantastic bike for two decades now.
The only problem is these bikes develop a hard starting issue. I’ve been battling this for years, but today I found this video:

Take my advice and do this work around now! All you need is a piece of wire and 15 minutes.
The MMM starter relay is a piece of crap and it will leave you stranded so ditch it before you start throwing money away on batteries, or a stator and volt regulator. Oh, and three different mechanics… 🤬

About $1,400 - $1,600 depending on condition and mileage, for a 99 - 01. Not sure of the more modern ones.
i raced a 883 and i won by a land slid and then i raced a 1200 and he won by two cars worth. i was on a 2001 Suzuki volusia

I had a Intruder 1500, now riding a Marauder and a Harley Heritage, prefer the Marauder to the Intruder because of the handling and light weight.
They all have that crappy whine in the gears and front drive , its not bad with louder pipes so you can't here it as much lol
