I was stationed at RAF Alconbury from Jan 1961-Jan 1964. We repaired the Base Radios ( HF & UHF ) in the Tower , Fire Station, ( & in the fire Trucks) , Air Police. They had RB-66 aircraft ( Photo Recon). They did a lot of changes after that, when the Vietnam war was just cranking up. To Bad they can't keep some of the old things around.
Looks like it's easy to get access to the flightline side of the base now , when I visited the base in 1997 , MOD controlled access to that part of the base . I was stationed there in the early 70's and worked out of the small red brick building next to the tower. At the time it was the weapons release shop, which was part of the Munitions Maint. Sq. Not 100% sure but I think the building number is 91.
