    Tom reviews the new 2020 Toyota RAV4 SUV with the two-litre petrol and provides an expert opinion.
    Is the hybrid RAV4 really worth the extra spend? Should you save money and buy the Toyota RAV4 GX Manual instead? Here, we take a look at a rare specification of new RAV4 - the base two-litre petrol manual offering that goes for about $30,000. Should you buy a RAV4 instead of a small SUV? Is the Toyota RAV4 better than the Mazda CX-5 or Hyundai Tucson? We reveal all the answers about the RAV4. In today’s video, Tom reviews the 2020 Toyota RAV4 FWD Manual in Silver over black.
    What do you think of this version of the RAV4? Is the hybrid clearly better? Do you prefer to spend less when you buy, or save cash when you fill up? Or is diesel a better alternative than either? Let me know your thoughts below. Would you consider it? Is it too small? Comment below!

    I do wish automakers would offer manuals on the higher trims instead of the base model. I get there's not much demand for them, and I know this is a SUV, but for the people that do like and enjoy having a manual, it kind of sucks that their only choice is the most spartan model.

    • @madbikes

      That is exactly how manual is, unfortunately, a thing of the past.
      -most think it makes no business sense to offer top trim in manual unless it's a sports car
      -unlike cars before the year 2000, modern day manual tend to have rev-hang (engine speed takes forever to drop), which ruins the experience and reduced clutch life when driven reasonably hard
      -eventually few cars offers manual and becomes a thing of the past

    This might sound dumb but I've never had a automatic tailgate on a car before till now, if I'm in a shopping cantre and open the boot will the boot continue upward til it hits the roof of the shopcntre car park? Or will it not even go that high? It looks like it could hit the roof of the building and don't wanna risk it

      Many electric tailgates have a feature allowing you to set the height it opens to - otherwise, it really is trial and error! That said, you can override the motor by simply firmly grasping the door as it opens - to prevent it from hitting something.

    • @chasingcars

      To be honest, I wouldn’t want to. In my experience, the hybrid keeps enough juice on tap (by using the engine as a generator when need be) to give you the extra torque whenever it’s requested - plus of course the hybrid choice is backed up by a larger and more powerful 2.5 litre petrol engine anyway. So that’s what I’d choose!

    so according to you the hybrid will save you only 3 liters per 100km which is nothing! So unless you are driving 30000km per year the hybrid doesn't make any sense for me...the plugin hybrid will be a different story though...

    • @barnaczukor4235
      @barnaczukor4235 2 роки тому

      Hybrid models are originally for tight-assed people, who pays for the car, but are not willing to pay for the fuel. That is why all vloggers start with the fuel savings when hybrids are mentioned. In real life, this is a never returning investment considering the extra price and the average mileage per year...
      Hybrid has its own benefits that are rarely mentioned. They have a 2.5L engine instead of a 2.0, which is stronger and has more torque. The electric motor is a bonus on top of the bigger engine. The acceleration of the hybrid is much better from 0 to 100 km/h.
      Hybrids have eCVT tranny that has no belt/chain (what the normal CVTs have), but it has a planetary gear and a torque converter. So it has a more reliable/durable transmission setup in comparison to a petrol CVT version.
      You also have to replace the brake pads less often as you brake by the electric motor, instead of using metallic friction. This is a light cost saving factor.
      If you buy a Hybrid AWD model, a rear electric motor is applied instead of a complex drivetrain including a rear differential, drives shaft, clutch packs, etc. It is better for light snow and rain, while the petrol AWD is better for heavier off-road use.

      In Canart Islands you can buy 2.0 awd manual Rav4

    • @barnaczukor4235
      @barnaczukor4235 2 роки тому

      In Europe, you can get such a model. But torque vectoring all wheel drive needs the Direct-shift CVT transmission (K120). It has a launch gear, a torque converter and classic CVT pulleys.
      In the USA and Russia, there are 2.5L petrol variants too, which employ classic 8-speed automatic transmissions. This can also do torque vectoring AWD.
      If you buy the manual variant AWD, you get the basic AWD system with a slipper clutch. In this case, the ESP (VSC in Toyota language) can help you to stop wheel spinning instead of the clutch packs of the rear driveaxles.
      If you buy the CVT, you get a better AWD system, which has multiple modes and driveshaft decoupling feature when you drive on highways (better fuel economy).
      Drawbacks: Torque vectoring works by wet clutch packs, which is a clever system, but tends to overheat under heavy load (towing, heavy off-road use). If you have a problem with your tranny, it costs an arm and leg.
      If you need a beefy all wheel drive drivetrain due to heavy off-roading, towing, hunting, agricultural works, etc., you are better off with a pickup track that has a classic 4WD system with 4H, 4L transfercase settings and mechanic differential locking. This system won't overheat, but it is not as intelligent as the torque vectoring of the RAV4.
      Hilux/Land Cruiser/Tacoma/4 Runner/Fortuner have 4WD, which is for off-road work (such as prof. hunter, agriculture, towing). RAV4/CR-V/Forester have AWD, which is for fun driving and recreation (occassional off-road).

      It's a fair point. Personally, I dig the way Mini do it - do you know it? Under the central armrest, your phone slides into a wireless charger that is spring loaded, so it can't slide off the charging pad - then, you close the lid and your phone screen literally can't distract you. That's still the best implementation I have seen.

I can't agree with the distraction issue as most cars now show phone stuff in the audio screen. I want to see who's calling me before I answer. Whats wrong with a dash mounted universal phone holder Just like the thousands of different types we are all forced to buy from eBay to fill this stupid oversight in car design? Cars really haven't come very far in decades as far as 'usable living space' is concerned. Most still do not have useful cup hollers, phone holders, takeaway hooks, rubbish bins, coin trays, card holders, usb ports where you can see them... Considering it's taken over 100 years for car manufacturers to figure out a simple cup holder I can't say I'm surprised...
