We got our XSE last month to replace our gen. 1 highlander. Fuel economy has been as advertised. It is surprisingly engaging to drive, for what it is. Very satisfied with our purchase. FYI, we were on the wait list for both the prime and the regular hybrid. T did not like that. So we went with the regular hybrid.
Dungsta not bothered by the new prime. Prices in Canada haven’t been announced, so it is not yet known whether it will get the federal and provincial credit (it probably will). But the bigger problem is that 3000 are supposed to be coming to Canada, and that works out to 8-10 a year for our dealer. No guarantee we would be getting the spec and colour we would want for a car we will have for about 7 years.
It is my understanding that yes it does not have a belt per se and uses a gear but it still is a CVT as it varies the ratio depending on the speed if the IC engine and the exotic motor.
Great video, thank you for sharing it. I bought a 2020 RAV4 hybrid two weeks ago and I absolutely love it! Previously, I had 2002 highlander which I loved and the engine was still running perfectly. Unfortunately, I hit a deer and it cracked the front bumper, headlights and windshield and messed up the alignment. It was almost cheaper to buy a new car than pay for those repairs. I am a huge fan of Toyota’s reliability and wanted to stick with them for my new purchase. As you said, the look of the RAV4 is pretty cool, it’s sporty, it has great contrast, it gets a lot of people’s attention when I’m driving by. The fuel economy is awesome! I commute 60 miles to work each day, and I haven’t had to visit a gas station yet (the dealership topped it off when I purchased it), but keep in mind, I love watching the display of when I’m using gas vs battery and I adjust my driving so I’m nearly all battery each trip. You could seriously take this around running errands without using any gas! But also, when I do need to use power and accelerate, it’s very responsive...I really like how the engine sounds...there have been some bad reviews about how loud the engine is...but I like it. I would definitely recommend this vehicle. But also, it’s only been two weeks...
Darlene, do you mind telling how much you paid for your RAV4? I am planning to buy one too. Also, do you have problem filling up to full as Freddy said? the other website people complain about that too.
Kelly Huynh my first trip to the gas station was yesterday, and yes, it did not register to full, but slightly below. I really wouldn’t see that as big issue because I don’t typically drive a vehicle down to the fumes anyways...there’s always a gas station within the 400+ mile radius that it did fill up to. But, hopefully a solution will be coming soon. As far as pricing, it really depends on the model and the packages you are interested in. I’m not an expert, so I cannot recommend anything...but packages are typically based on your preferences...do you want a moon roof...heated seats...etc...those things are completely preferential. If you google it, you should be able to find accurate pricing for what you are looking for 👍
That hybrid is perfect for Toronto’s traffic 😂. Definitely hybrids are very fuel efficient. Combustion engines are more efficient at highway speeds but they are less efficient in the city, hybrids definitely shine in city driving 💪
Excellent review. Thank you for highlighting how the lower city-MPG of an hybrid like this one is so significant. A comment for impaired seers wearing glasses, is that the focus on a virtual mirror like the one in this car is a problem as you need to refocus from infinity to close in a glance. I also learned in your video that the line drive assist does not replace the driver. It assists while taking into account regular time segments.
This same unit in our garage now next to a 2012 V6 sport RAV. Just a couple of things I would hope for. The wheels are narrow and so are the tires, just 225. The 2012 sport stock wheel width is 235. I know you can get a RAV with 235’s. I think they are 19s. Not a big deal just would look much better with a wider tire and wheel combination. Also, nice two tone look but that chrome strip above the door sills really needs to be blacked out! That will be a change for next spring. That is. A personal bias but I think it would be better matching the rest of the black.
“Two electric motors powering the rear wheels” actually it has two electric motors in the planetary gear set up front, and one electric motor in the rear differential to power the rear.
Great Review, very informative I love the scenic drives that you take us on, I would like to take a scenic drive like that in Canada with my 2021 XSE Hybrid it is such a great car. By far the best review on the internet! Excellent camerawork, every detail of the car is very well made visable. I own this car and I underscribe everything you say about the car. I had to get used to hybrid driving though. Specially that CVT needs getting used to but if you drive the car the way Toyota designed and meant it to be, it won’t disappoint you, quite on the contrary. So potential buyers that own a non hybrid car need to test drive a hybrid RAV4 extensively to get used to the car’s behaviour, even longer than you would take a non-hybrid for a test drive. I must admit, this car was not on my short list at all. I was made curious about the pulling power the AWD hybrid version has, the first that could tow my heavy camping trailer. It remains to be seen how it performs when this brick on wheels is hooked up, it that sense it is kinda gamble but at least on paper it should do this well. I will report here how well (or bad) it did. Might take a while though due to the Corona outbreak. Kind regards, Willem, Hekelingen, The Netherlands.
I am interested in this for towing as well, exactly as you were in your comment a year ago. Can you provide an update one year one please? Thanks, Adam
@@Explore-Your-City There was no price difference that I needed to pay between the 2021 and 2022. But I find it is important to point out that I don't live in the US or Canada. I live in Nothern Europe. So there maybe difference in how Toyota acts regarding car model release on different markets around the world. Very nice, I just took possession of my 2021 model that was made in Sept. Apparently, anything produced after that is 2022. I'm sure you are going to love it, so far, I have 0 regrets and am getting about 46 in town and 42 on the highway (65) . As it gets colder, that will suffer here in Iowa. My advise is not to sweat it when you get it and it doesn't get the mileage you want. if you get it in Dec, it's the worst time of year depending on where you live. You'll be pleasantly surprised when it warms up in the spring.
I bought the 2020 XSE after all the good reviews and liking what I saw in person. After buying I noticed I’m not able to fill up the 14 gallon fuel tank. Even when it’s completely empty I can only pump about 9.5 gallons. This results in about 400 mile range instead of 500. After a little more research I found that the fuel tank issue is common on the 2019 and 2020 hybrids but no one mentions this in their reviews or at the dealer for some reason. Toyota has done nothing so far to address the issue. They will offer to replace the fuel tank but it’s the same tank so the issue will remain.
Thimas Mulligan. I had the new tank from Toyota. Problem still exists. My salesman said no one had mentioned it to him. Thousands are joining class action lawsuits. I did. Its a shame.
8:17 strongly agree with that. It is weird that the RAV4 in Canada do not have panoramic sunroof and I love RAV4 so much. But no panoramic sunroof let me down so much and it is the reason why I still considering that should I buy it or not. If the sunroof is panoramic, I’ll say it is perfect.
Thank you for the review. I'm still deciding on whether to get the 2021 or 2022 model. Hopefully they've fixed the gas tank issue from what I read above.
I have not heard about the gas tank issue for ‘21 models, only the ‘20 model. I just bought the XLE Premium last weekend. I ordered it 3 months ago. It drives so nicely!
In Europe we do not have: 1. Panoramic roof 2. Android Auto and Apple Carplay 3. Wireless charging 4. Digital mirror 5. Navigation (there is a 'Map' button, but it does nothing) And I've paid for mine, Style trim - an analog of XSE trim (2-color) - around 44k But the car is great! The only improvement I'd ask for is better AWD.
Im also from Europe and I have wireless charger. Also Android auto/Apple Carplay should be available soon (dealer said they will call in April, but havent heard from them).
I was going to buy this exact same model but in black top white bottom colour but the gas tank issue threw me off. Has a 11 gallon tank and can only fill up to 9. ( correct me if im wrong) and for the price you’re almost in 4runner territory. Got a 4runner limited instead sips more gas but last longer and holds more value
@Freddy Arancibia Yep. And Toyota still hasn’t fixed it. www.greencarreports.com/news/1127165_fuel-tank-issue-for-2019-2020-rav4-hybrid-toyota-still-investigating

Why does it seem EVERY reviewer not mention whether or not the Rav 4 have a spare tire? I have watch a lot of reviews and it is always "This is the cargo space." but they NEVER lift mat to show what is underneath. It is very important to have a spare or at least a space-saver tire... a stupid little can of "Fix a Flat" is a deal breaker.
It is because the correct way to grab he sw is that form. When you put both hands on top of the sw it creates stress on your neck and back of the head. I guess they assumed to go that way since is cost effective anda the correct way 🤷🏽♂️
As much as I loved my Honda Insight hybrid I just traded it for a Rav4 XSE hybrid a month ago. The CR-V hybrid sadly doesn't have a spare tire & no towing capability which are both deal breaker for me. If that's not a concern for you and other then a Honda hybrid may be for you as my Insight was a great car which would last for countless reliable years & gets incredible mpg.
Considering on downgrading from current car Infiniti Q60 to this Rav4. Might need something more practical and easier to daily drive. Sucks they don't make a 6 cylinder version.
Everyday Reviews Both the CR-V and RAV4 are manufactured in Ontario. The CR-V assembled in Alliston Ontario is equipped to install the pano roof and the RAV4 assembled in Woodstock Ontario is NOT equipped to install the pano roof. Hopefully for the 2021 RAV4 the plant will be equipped & there's a good chance I will buy one later this year if I can't my hands on a new RAV4 Prime (assembled in Japan). I have friends that work in both Ontario plants.
My 2019 XSE has no AWD or XSE badges and doesn't have the JBL audio system. I know it's the XSE because of the black roof, black seats and the Monroney sticker on the window before purchasing it had the description: RAV4 HV XSE L4 CVT AWD-I.
TheBen Dover Then maybe for some reason air is trapped in the tank. This very same problem has our Citroën DS3, but not always. If it happens I pull back the nozzle just a little bit and this cures the problem. However, the auto shut off function of the nozzles don’t work no more so there might be the risk of spilling fuel.
leyland9999 Toyota has admitted to the saddle gas tank as being the inherent design flaw. The dealerships have replaced many with the identical part. There is a class action law suit in California and Texas. Also I heard that the actually ‘factory fix’ was coming in March but haven’t seen or heard anything yet.
No they haven't. Toyota doesn't have a way to fix it. They're just replacing it with the same defective part if you can believe it. But Covid19 put a stop to all that.
LOUD. And all I've ever owned is straight pipe diesel trucks. You can see them on my page. I'm taking it to the dealership next week. Sounds very loud static like fm radio has no signal all the time.
Why would you waste your money buying a vehicle during this economic downturn. The better option is to buy stocks right now. And you won't even need to break even because you'll buy the car in cash paid in full.
Christian Jardin I can afford to do both, so why not? Breaking even was referring to the price difference between the gasoline and hybrid model. I personal would never pay cash for a vehicle, unless there is no 0% financing. I can get the dealer cash incentives by negotiating, and the manufacturer cash incentive is not high enough for me to pay $40+k to get.
@@robertduklus6555 It's very simple math so I don't understand the problem. Just google it if you're not sure & it will convert it for you in a second. My new XSE hybrid can be adjusted to the US gallon or Imperial gallon but I presume you don't have a Rav4 hybrid or else you wouldn't be confused.

So are you gonna trade it in for the prime? 🤔
Thimas Mulligan. I had the new tank from Toyota. Problem still exists. My salesman said no one had mentioned it to him. Thousands are joining class action lawsuits. I did. Its a shame.
@@edgarrett8822 how do you join?
@@higherlifts420 Toyota recently admitted problem. Working on issue. Call Toyota of North America and lodge a complaint.
Everyday Review will not mention anything that makes Toyota look bad.
41mph is for the gaz version. My hybrid xse csn reach a 51mpg ratio. Truly impressive
U did a amazing job 👏🏽 on the rewiews ty
8:17 strongly agree with that. It is weird that the RAV4 in Canada do not have panoramic sunroof and I love RAV4 so much. But no panoramic sunroof let me down so much and it is the reason why I still considering that should I buy it or not. If the sunroof is panoramic, I’ll say it is perfect.
Weird I got the bag hooks in mine... XSE 2020 Hybrid with tech package.
The 2019/2020 Hybrid RAV4 has 219 horsepower compared to only 203 for the gas models. I think you got that mixed up :)
Lee Ezzell, nope. Thats right. Hybrid has 219 horsepower.
Beautiful ❤️
Thank you for the review. I'm still deciding on whether to get the 2021 or 2022 model. Hopefully they've fixed the gas tank issue from what I read above.
I have not heard about the gas tank issue for ‘21 models, only the ‘20 model. I just bought the XLE Premium last weekend. I ordered it 3 months ago. It drives so nicely!
I worked at Toyota dealership up until the COVID, this is the only RAV4 I would buy however there is a 3k-5k mark up here in LA
Luis Alcala bro I got it from Simi Valley Toyota no mark up there 🙌🏽
Very nice desinge n high quality
Can’t wait for the RAV4 Prime, you can say my RAV4 is faster than a Porsche - Macan 2.0T 🤣🤣🤣
Faster means less reliable.....this is so sad
MASTER FAZE SAITAMA not necessarily, only time will tell.
@@nickolastiguan yeah man not sure....we should bug toyota to make reliable cars.....not good looking

In Europe we do not have:
1. Panoramic roof
2. Android Auto and Apple Carplay
3. Wireless charging
4. Digital mirror
5. Navigation (there is a 'Map' button, but it does nothing)
And I've paid for mine, Style trim - an analog of XSE trim (2-color) - around 44k
But the car is great! The only improvement I'd ask for is better AWD.
Im also from Europe and I have wireless charger. Also Android auto/Apple Carplay should be available soon (dealer said they will call in April, but havent heard from them).
I just both a 2019 RAV4 XLE AWD. The best of the best.
The prime is...
Awesome
I was going to buy this exact same model but in black top white bottom colour but the gas tank issue threw me off. Has a 11 gallon tank and can only fill up to 9. ( correct me if im wrong) and for the price you’re almost in 4runner territory. Got a 4runner limited instead sips more gas but last longer and holds more value
Its pretty clear you love your car -amazing review My next car too
It does look soooooo soooo out of ordinary
I heard the rav doesn't fill up to full..something to do with the design of the gas tank..
@Freddy Arancibia Yep. And Toyota still hasn’t fixed it. www.greencarreports.com/news/1127165_fuel-tank-issue-for-2019-2020-rav4-hybrid-toyota-still-investigating
Uhhhh, I have a 2020 RAV4 XLE and I definitely don't have that issue.
Unless its an issue with just the hybrids?
@@@Kelseychick332 It's just the hybrids.
Should I get the gas or the hybrid ? Only owners of the hybrid reply . Please
Great review!
My 22 should be here soon
That’s awesome! How long did you have to wait?
I bought last Saturday they said it should be there in couple weeks
@@MrDjh66 that’s incredible! You’re super lucky. Those are really hard to get. I have friends that have been waiting over a year and still have no idea when they’ll get theirs. Where do you live?
Sorry I just misread. I thought you were getting the Prime. The Hybrid is a very nice vehicle as well though.
I’m on Long Island NY I wanted the blizzard white XSE and salesman said one was in transit
Good job....are you sure the RAV4 hybrid is available in limited trim?....in Ontario?
And yet I work at Toyota in sales and their still some customers that wants to go see other brands !! Cause their shopping not finished yet some are saying loll Why ?!! Lol This is it!! This is what you want and this is the best product out there theres nothing else to say just sign the papers already and stop wasting YOUR time and money :)
My understanding is that the Hybrid version does not have a CVT transmission.
It’s an eCVT
good design !
WOOP, Go Rav
Why does it seem EVERY reviewer not mention whether or not the Rav 4 have a spare tire? I have watch a lot of reviews and it is always "This is the cargo space." but they NEVER lift mat to show what is underneath. It is very important to have a spare or at least a space-saver tire... a stupid little can of "Fix a Flat" is a deal breaker.
Braddah Bill ours has a spare. 2019 limited hybrid.
It has a spare tire
Recommend it
It blows my mind that the steering wheels heating is only partial.
This surprised me also.
It is because the correct way to grab he sw is that form. When you put both hands on top of the sw it creates stress on your neck and back of the head. I guess they assumed to go that way since is cost effective anda the correct way 🤷🏽♂️
Nice superb SUV
I drove one in Northern Norway and the tire pressure light flashed on even though there was no issue. Is there a cold weather package available?
Same MPG as the Prius V ??? That's insane!
Nowhere near it. This tops out at 41mpg. Prius v is 54
I'm getting around 50 mpg in eco mode (u.s. gal) but I'm sure the Prius gets much better.
Thank you
In US there are law where you suppose not to hold the 12 position and the 6 position on the wheel
If you’re maneuvering slow speed you will still touch 12-6
So for the extra cost, for a average 20;000kms a year driver, what's the annual gas cost saving ?
I have 2019 rav4 hybrid xse. Same color. I have gas tank issue and recall because of the engine
A eCVT is not a CVT. If you’re not going to elaborate on it at least use the correct designation.
Honda hybrid CRV or This Toyota Hybrid Rav4 ,torn between 2 lovers both i like
As much as I loved my Honda Insight hybrid I just traded it for a Rav4 XSE hybrid a month ago. The CR-V hybrid sadly doesn't have a spare tire & no towing capability which are both deal breaker for me. If that's not a concern for you and other then a Honda hybrid may be for you as my Insight was a great car which would last for countless reliable years & gets incredible mpg.
I bought mine in Texas and it didn't come with a panoramic sunroof........was anyone able to get one with a panoramic sunroof?
which more better toyota rav4 or toyota harrier..
Considering on downgrading from current car Infiniti Q60 to this Rav4. Might need something more practical and easier to daily drive. Sucks they don't make a 6 cylinder version.
Buy the Prime if you can find one. More performance than the V6
You guys have a panoramic roof in the CRV and we don’t. So I guess we are even. Lol
Ok, that’s fair😀
Were you drunk?!
I heard there is a problem with the fuel tank on the hybrid RAV4. I can't be fill up o full. Can you confirm?
Donny Chau 👍🏻, wife and I each have one since April. The 2020 has the same issue.
This seems to be a problem only in North America. I have no problems at all, my car originated from Japan.
leyland9999 so did both of our hybrid xse’s
TheBen Dover Then maybe for some reason air is trapped in the tank. This very same problem has our Citroën DS3, but not always. If it happens I pull back the nozzle just a little bit and this cures the problem. However, the auto shut off function of the nozzles don’t work no more so there might be the risk of spilling fuel.
leyland9999 Toyota has admitted to the saddle gas tank as being the inherent design flaw. The dealerships have replaced many with the identical part. There is a class action law suit in California and Texas. Also I heard that the actually ‘factory fix’ was coming in March but haven’t seen or heard anything yet.
goodlooking+ good mileage, all the rest aren't that important
Did Toyota fix that gas tank issue???? Talk to me when it’s fixed...
No they haven’t. But according to Motormouth Canada it’s not a big deal and you should be lucky to have a Rav4 Hybrid. Lol
No they haven't. Toyota doesn't have a way to fix it. They're just replacing it with the same defective part if you can believe it. But Covid19 put a stop to all that.
@@Dave64track you should have put your money in stocks. Why buy a vehicle during this economic downturn
I'm sure they will have a fix and maybe they'll have some awesome specials after this pandemic!
Ill sell my 2020 Rav4 Hybrid XSE. It has 10K miles on it. I just bought a Tacoma Quad cab.
The rav4 needs a v6 and oh boy it’ll be perfect
lol
Hybrid only for me .... thank you very much.
Except you can't fill the gas tank up all the way.....
The hybrid puts out 219 hp rather than 203 hp stated in the video. The non-hybrid models have 203 hp.
Might need to annotate the bit about 2 motor powering the “rear” wheels when you meant front wheels
Two electric motors power the "rear" wheels so he was partially correct.
Toyota knows very well that pano roofs will not last in Canadian Winters, they are trying to protect their reputation
How is the noise level in this suv at 120-140 kmh?
LOUD. And all I've ever owned is straight pipe diesel trucks. You can see them on my page. I'm taking it to the dealership next week. Sounds very loud static like fm radio has no signal all the time.
At 70 mph the decibel reading was 63. Compared to my 2015 non hybrid highlander XLE which is 61. Pretty quiet. Ride is not as smooth though.
If you drive 16K - 18k km a year, you should “break even” in 5 years.
You might save even a little bit on brake jobs as well since hybrids use less brakes with regenerative braking.
@@nickolastiguan Toyota never ever offers 0% financing even during this time.
@@nickolastiguan but if you can afford to do both then why not
I want that
That’s a Rav4? 🤩

Friends down south don't use imperial measurements for the fuel economy.
The 41 mpg he mentioned in the video was for US gallons which is equal to 49.24 Imp gallons. You're welcome!
@@henryhonda8408 you are welcome what? Imperial gallons are not used in the usa. Nobody cares about imperial gallons in North America.
@@robertduklus6555 It's very simple math so I don't understand the problem. Just google it if you're not sure & it will convert it for you in a second. My new XSE hybrid can be adjusted to the US gallon or Imperial gallon but I presume you don't have a Rav4 hybrid or else you wouldn't be confused.
every thing is good about this trim except the squeezed outdated interior
