    Seeing these kind of things make me miss the golden 3rd gen even more

    • @Everythingz127

      The actual golden era was gen 2 and two years into gen 3. As from 2018 things started going south and from 2020 things worsened.

    • @Everythingz127
      @Everythingz127 Рік тому +10

      I mean gen 3's time has passed. Companies and fans need new things, that's why idols have a contract. To tell them they are not here forever and that they better use their time preciously. Companies just debut new groups once they see that fans want something new.

    • @mehlanie13
      @mehlanie13 Рік тому +18

      A lot of netizens say that they miss the 2nd gen, while criticizing that the 3rd gen has become much more competition-driven and much less about the music. I'm definitely younger than them so I can relate more closely to 3rd gen's music and some 3rd gen groups like BP. As a BLINK, I can sense a bit of this competition too, like how fans encourage one another to stream new MVs and vote for their idols in award shows. Activities like this may be seen as extreme, but when done in moderation, it strengthens fandom communities and helps idols get the recognition they deserve.
      But what's going on in the 4th gen is over the top. Kids being forced to endorse fashion brands (which is arguably comparable to child labor in public), the constant blame game in every music show performances, sacrificing vocals in favor of underaged sexy dances and lyrics,... Is kpop getting worse???
      The only 4th gen girl group that has managed to break out of this stereotype, for me, is I-DLE. They've got good vocal stability, can dance fairly well, are professional on stage, and can even produce/write songs in this patriarchal kpop industry (oh, and they aren't very involved in the fashion realm). I don't know if there are other talented 4th gen girl groups out there, but I must say that groups like I-DLE are a breath of fresh air in this suffocating system

    It really feels weird and wrong when i hear idols calling their fans unnie or hyung and many of the times they have to act romantically for fan service. And i really don't understand how can people go around and say " ok im stanning this group" like its hard for me to get to like a group and actually call myself a fan. I have to listen to their songs, watch their mvs, get to know the members, their personas talents and positions, watch their content so that i can slowly be into them. As an nctzen it took me a year to understand and accept that i actually loved the group and their style so i belong to the fandom. And often i find myself debating whether i like them and i should join the fandom or not. And again most of the time i don't cuz stanning a single group is already hard and brain busying enough. And that is why i can and never will stan a forth gen group.

    Blackpink becoming GA is something they worked for. They only became that 2-3 years after their debut and marked their place in the industry. The girls had developed their own styles which caught the eye of the different brands. I love 4th gen girl groups but seeing 14-16 year old girls who probably haven't even found their own style yet, get these big deals as brand ambassadors or global ambassadors just seems a bit wrong/weird for me. Some of the groups have only been in the industry for a year and yet their companies are pushing them towards brand deals. I wish they got the chance to fully find their own style and mark their place in the industry first. Again no hate to any groups, I just wish they focused on music first and then would continue to expand themselves.

    • @starship1914
      @starship1914 Рік тому +47

      I agree with this. Now it feels like being a brand ambassador is the main goal. Newly debuted groups being brand ambassador is like a new trend now. Ofc the money is probably good but let them focus on music and be better artists. This only leads people to focus more on idols visuals instead of their skills.

    • @TEAM__POSEID0N
      @TEAM__POSEID0N Рік тому +54

      One of the biggest differences is that, with Blackpink, it really looks like they're doing it because the relevant global brands have all really, really wanted the BP members to be their global ambassadors and have been willing to pay a lot. This in turn makes it more likely that BP can continue to exist for longer than most idol groups. (No profit. No group.) With the 4th Gen groups it looks more like their companies are begging the big brands to give them some status because they want the 4th gen groups to LOOK like they're on the same level as BP, so they probably get named as some kind of ambassador and get a small amount of money. But you can tell that the brands don't see them the same way that they see the BP members...and they don't get the same big event treatment that the BP members do.

    For blackpink, they became ambassadors after brands saw how popular they got and how everything they wear or use, gets sold out immediately, but for 4th gen, they become ambassadors after debuting, so it's not the same as blackpink, don't bring them into this
    And also, idols can release music whenever the hell they want, it's just in kpop that the idol can't decide when to release music and has to release one after another. In every other industry, there is no determined time, this whole "long hiatus" things is REALLY STUPID in kpop industry. They don't want your time or money when they are inactive, so what's all the fuss about? Wanna leave the fandom? Leave it, noone cares, they'll gain new ones

    The brand thingy is getting real annoying i mean it's good for a idol to have a brand deal but it's getting to much out of hand as companies are trying to get their idols brand deals as soon as they debut which makes it feel like as if more than half of their job is modeling

    • @nematsu
      @nematsu Рік тому +5

      It's because their job is to be brand ambassadors, it's part of their contract. That all thing about fashion endorsement is just about money. Take YG for instance, one of their big investors is LVMH (the french company that owns Louis Vuitton and other luxury brands). They want some money back from their investment. So they use the Kpop idols of the company to promote their products. The other companies probably do the same.
      Kpop is not about music anymore, it's just becoming an advertisment system for global fashion companies.
      Those big foreign companies have found the best way to promote their products to a massive audience.

    The group Billlie had the coolest styling for their Ring ma Bell era. Each member wore a shirt, or skirt, or belt that had one of the albums song titles cleverly printed across it. It was incorporated into a punk style and it was so cute and unique. And I was thinking on why I loved it so much and I realized it’s because I’m so used to seeing “CELINE” or some other high end fashion brand’s name on idols clothes in music videos. It was depreciated the art somehow.

Soon they’ll disband, they need to pave the way for their future careers. It’s actually really smart business. And that’s exactly what K-pop is: a buisiness. So before they were BA, they did nothing during hiatus, now, they do brand deals. How does that change your life? 😂 it makes zero difference, the group would have still been on hiatus for 2 years, whether they were BA or not, because that’s how YG operates. Why? Because, the more you make people wait for something, the more attraction you’ll get when it comes out. Again, it’s just business. It’s ridiculous to get mad at that. Nobody bashes Beyoncé for crating her own line of champagne, or Rihanna for her line of cosmetics. And they often take, 4,5 years hiatus. Beyoncé and Rihanna didn’t put out an album have 1-2 year hiatuses and comeback and repeat. Did you read my reply thoroughly? I am criticizing YGE managing of BP. And BP already built their solo fan bases a long time ago. And I’m not mad either I just want more content from them just like many other blinks. This criticism about them having a lack of content isn’t new in BP fandom And the og conversation was about how 4th gen idols are not treating their idol job like a part time job (like the video claimed) but I argued rather it’s BP considering they go back and forth from being idols to brand ambassadors instead of being idols who are also brand ambassadors. And that’s just a fact. Good for you if you don’t mind the lack of content that is your prerogative just like me wanting more idol content from BP is my prerogative. The og conversation about 4th gen idols not treating their idol job like a part time job but rather BP is doing that was based on facts and I was using the management of BP as evidence. The channel did get one thing right: kids wearing adult clothes looks silly, and they usually look forced while shooting/going to fashion shows in those clothes. But I'd like to add one thing:
    BP was a huge group back when they started branching out into fashion. Because they've got a solid fanbase, and because they've actually got good performance skills, BP members can safely shoot thousands of fashion magazines, skip releasing music for nearly 2 years, and still make a successful comeback (ok tbf, they're still sometimes criticized for being nothing but fashion ambassador nowadays). But nowadays, there are young kids who have inadequate vocal stability and barely established reputation, who are forced to promote big adult products that they couldn't even make much sense of yet. But since the industry is so influential nowadays, there will be many extreme fans who buy such products, thus giving the labels more revenues...

I stan groups that make me want go dance and go wild when I hear it. I stan them because of their MUSIC not because of their looks. I only noticed how handsome and beautiful these people are when I decided to observe their visuals for a short period of time.
    I stan a group that makes me addicted and obsessed because of their MUSIC. I hope new groups today will bring back the legacy of the 2nd gen groups, or better yet bring back the 2nd gen groups so that they can slap these 4th gen groups how to make music and what is being a kpop idol for.
    When GD paved the way for people to understand what being kpop idol really means, these other 4th gen groups are making that legacy a joke again.
    Someday, other people might start to hate and belittle kpop idols again, and all they do is debut and be a Model-clout or ambassador-of-big-brands-clout chasers.
    I watched a video before when 2nd gen groups struggled in the kpop industry where people would belittle and criticize kpop idols thinking of what could these groups bring to society when all they do is pose for the camera and launch music that doesn't make "sense". I fear the day people would start criticizing kpop idols again but with a different approach.
    Actually, the criticism is starting now. I fear for when these people may belittle kpop idols again, and who would, again, prove to society that they don't debut just for brands but for creating meaningful, wild, or fun music.

    It's all about money. People stan groups that haven't even released a song and yet they became instantly famous hence, they get brands deals already. Its so sad that kpop became like that also because of fans. Another thing is that they debut too early, they did not have much time to train which is why I think, in my opinion, many idols really lack skills to be called an idol but as long as they have the visuals, they get famous. I got to know their personality in less than a year, and once I got to know them I decided to stan the group, also its very unsettling for a group to have 14 or 15 age gaps because you feel weird watching them and you cant really share your problems with a 14 year old as a 20 year old which kind of make them less close

    With suppourting pre-debut groups some of it feels like people are rushing to get ahead of what they think will be the next big group. Other times it is something about a group that draws people in be it a member or the ethos of the group. With Babymonster I think it's that you have a group that was talked about in these hushed almost reverential tones by YG as a label and a few of the artists. So there has been all this build up for years that somekind of perceived "super group" is coming. The sad thing is there can be this kind of "hype beast" mentality to supporting groups where it's less about supporting the groups you really like and more making fan culture into somekind of competitive sport where whoever can be the fan of the most groups "wins".

    1. But SNSD was the face of everything, like they have so many songs for the brand as the ambassador, at the time it wasn't fashion brand that's the goal but alcohol brand, fried chicken brands etc. I mean they were everywhere in SK. It's just different ambassador goal now because kpop is becoming more and more global. And with BP starting this, making company see the way to be recognised globaly is to become fashion ambassador for each member. I think as long as they're puting out songs and not on long "hiatus" like BP was, it's not annoying.
    2. I agree the industry's debuting too young nowadays but it was always like that. Boa was debuting at 13, and saving SM on the way. Shinee's Taemin, f(x)'s Krystal and Sulli, Kara's Jiyoung, etc. was debuting at 14, BTS's Jungkook, IU, 2NE1's Minzy, Miss A's Suzy, etc. debut at 15. I don't support debuting too young too but it's not a 4th gen thing, it's just nowadays we got so many groups popping out left and right, so the number might get bigger.
    3. It's a company stan I think mostly, just like BP used to? I mean I know blackpink months before their debut and Astro too because I watch their web drama. That's why big 3 is big 3, and not because of their money (I mean it counts too) but because of the influence and power they had in SK that can stand through time

    I get that pushing very young teens into the harsh kpop industry is undesirable for various reasons. But I don't get when some people say that they feel they are too old to be a fan of these idols. I mean do you generally look up artists' bio before listening to their music? If you like a song, you will look further for other music, performances and maybe variety content eventually, if you like their personalities enough. And then decide to support them. If you don't, then you listen to them on Spotify, yt and such and just leave it at that.
    When did age become the pivotal factor in deciding whether you like their music or performance or not?

    From my take it appears that those from larger companies with a large marketing budget are pushing their idols to be the face of luxury brands but their fanbase wouldn't be able to afford these brands. Also they are skipping over the actual skills needed for an idol such as singing and dancing.
    Sadly those idols from smaller companies with less money will never be able to compete in terms of what these larger companies can do for their idols. I mean your example of baby monster is so on the money that they haven't even debuted but have a large fanbase staning them already.

    oh my god with the brand thing one i thought i was the only who thought it was so force like as much as i get annoyed with bp being more models than idols i can give credits where it's due they actually fit their brand like jisoo is very matre and elegant which go well with dior, jennie is expensive and sexy which suit chanel etc. and all of the bp members were adult at their debut (19-21) so they already had mature faces for luxury brands but newjeans for example they all look so juvenile which don't suit the luxury brands they endorse they just look like children with grown up clothes plus they don't even suit their brand image like burberry is like a mature, old money type of brand and danielle is a lovely cute girl they don't go well together tho i do think aespa fit givenchy with their ai kinda out there concept and wonyoung do fit miumiu she has a cute, elegant, lovely, rich girl image which is perfect for miu miu with newjeans it just feels force i think they should have waited longer for the girls to develop their image and choose a brand that match i mean if you think of a gucci girl you won't think of someone like hanni they look more like models for the kidswear of the brand then the ambassadors

    The brand thing. As a person stanning kpop since so long i can literally tell that kpop was never all abt music. And 4th gen NO WAY. Nowdays Kpop idols are actually "Influencers" not musicians beside some peoples. For example blackpink. They Don't deserves the title as "top tier artists" which is true. They Don't have any passion for music it Doesn't matter how much their childish fans disagrees. The girls of blackpink are just great Influencers. Not only them some others too. They are highly influenced by big brands nothing else. Young fans are making them 2x famous day by day without knowing that they are not even musicians just influencers. And i dont Think 4th Gen idols really knows what even music is. There are some idols that can't even sing, rap properly. How tf they are musicians? They knows that they Don't have to put much effort in music and vocals etc. They are just here to make themeselves great influencers. Yall It's not that easy to have a passion for music.
