Looking good!!! I've used plaster in a lot of model railroad applications. When the plaster cloth is wet, you can smooth with your finger to spread over the holes. But if you're doing mod poge and texture it probably doesn't matter. I have a 4x8' table in my basement, but I learned quickly,,, you want the high terrain in the middle. Anything on the edge results in crawlers falling off the table. I'm about to build a new one in my 3rd garage stall. I should have about 10x12' raw to work with, not including standing space. My plan is to use as much natural material as possible, including a waterproof container to act as an optional real mud pit. Mine will be flowy though, with specific routes for competition, etc. I'll probably do a mural behind it for good photography. Maybe a Moab theme. Last of all, I'm using an old salt water reef tank full spectrum light, so it will appear like natural sunlight. Just gotta remember to wear sunscreen! 😂 I'll create a new channel and journal all of it too.

Hey man, great work on that whole course it’s beautiful. One word of advice I learned from my uncle, when cutting consistent lengths on a miter saw, put a clamp or something as a stop with the edge towards the blade the length you need I.e. 6” pieces call for a 6” stop from blade side to clamp side

Very cool stuff to use and looks great when it’s done. I made my course mobile as well. Two 2x4 sheets of MDF. Catch is all side line up so I mix up like a jig saw puzzle. So an idea I was thinking... The cracks in the joint compound look a little too white. I wounder if you were to re-coat with a bit more but this time around add a bit of grey coloring to the joint compound a little lighter in color than the finished surface. Then when it cracks it would look a lot like natural rock. A lot of the expansion foam to me looks a little too much like foam as well. Don't get me wrong it all looks great but that might be a pretty good upgrade for later on. Color a bunch of joint compound and give it a full new coat to give the entire mountain a very natural look. Great course by the way, it is really inspiring me to make my own soon.

You should make your terrain park look more realistic, add some foam like grass, dirt, maybe some trees to give it that woodsy kind of feel, maybe for the canyon, maybe put a waterfall feature in there.

I've been thinking about starting a mini indoor course and this gave me some great ideas, so thanks! I'm also from MA and looking to get something going before winter so perfect timing finding this vid. I'm just getting into the mini scene and have a SCX24 and an Enduro24. Would be great to have something like this to bash around on. Never made any indoor courses before but have made some outdoor tracks in the past - getting creative with things like table top jumps and banked corners using just stuff I had laying around to make things work. I guess my only thing I would want to incorporate into an indoor course that yours doesn't have is some real dirt paths to test traction etc. and maybe a water feature. But the stuff you've done here certainly showcases a lot of great techniques to build the base and add on to with other elements. Good stuff - got me to subscribe. Just getting started with my channel - check it out if you get a chance.

My ocd wanted to brush out those glue runs on those steps so bad lol ,but gotta say it looks awesome . My girlfriends son had a school project he had tried to get his dad's help but he was "busy" he had to make a model of the intestines he tried a few times on his own and since he was trying I offered my help I used a 2x2 piece of 1/4 "plywood ond took minimal expansion foam and followed the outline of the intestines and I had him paint it with a rust colored spray paint it came out perfect and got 2 A's one for his paper and one for his project.

Adam! So many things that I’ve used in the past doing railroad and military things, but on a smaller scale. That said, a couple of tips for the room - when using the foam boards and glueing, use a few drywall screws too between layers to secure quickly. No need to wait for glue to dry while handling. Also, because I love the foam panels, you can also use scraps to layer and carve rocks from too - just another opp in place of crunch cardboard or trash if you have a particular shape in mind. I’d advise ppl to use foam sparingly so the coarse doesn’t look like stack marshmallows! Your Moab section came out great! And the joint company cracks combined with the paint layering looks sweet! Unintended benefits!
