Willie Nelson said that there are two types of men in this world. The ones who are in love with Linda Ronstadt and the ones who don’t know her.
100% this. He isn't wrong.
That’s is a true statement 100% 👍🙏👣
June CarterCash didn't like the short dress or Linda's flirting when she appeared the second time on the Johnny Cash show
@@davidtullis2810 June should have been paying more attention to her husband and sister at the time rather than worrying about Linda.
@@davidtullis2810 that’s funny
What I love about this performance is Linda was told not to hug him at the end of the performance, so they kissed instead.
They were good friends IRL...
Seriously? Because he’s black? Ugh I hate this world
@@sweetkiss119 Really? Is that true? I'm glad Linda told them where to go lol Aaron's voice, man, what a voice. It's great when two such talented voices come together like this. It's also rare. The only other time I can remember where it's this good is Elizabeth Frasier and Jeff Buckley for All Flowers in Time Bend Towards The Sun.
@@XercesandAlexander yes in the 80’s and 90’s they didn’t want white stars kissing black stars cause they said middle America wasn’t ready for that kinda thing. Screw them!!
@@XercesandAlexander And Lionel Richie and Diana Ross singing Endless Love! Also Christal Gayle and Eddie Rabbit singing Just you and I !😀
Nonsense...they were a couple for years.
Aaron and Linda weren't a couple, just close friends who respected each other's enormous talents. They just did not care what anyone thought about a Black man and a White woman singing a love duet, dancing together, and hugging and kissing at the end. This was genuine affection between two great performers.
Aaron Neville was such a a big man but such a gentle soul
I DONT KNOW MUCH ❣️❣️❣️
Knew you would love this. This was at the grammy's and apparently the producers were a little worried about the reaction a "mixed" couple might get so Linda made a point of kissing Aaron coz Linda don't take no sh*t. They weren't lovers but simply had huge respect and affection for each other. They did 4 duets on Linda's album 'cry like a rainstorm, howl like the wind'. It shows Linda at her absolute best and if you love a choir, and i suspect you do, you really would enjoy the whole album. Thanks for this one, Britt. Loved it. ❤
actually they were a couple.
I recall that Linda and Aaron were a couple for awhile….like for a few years in the late 80’s/early 90’s.
Actually, I just read that they were in a romantic relationship that ended in 1992. She and Aaron were dubbed the "First Couple of Pop Music".
Yes...THE CHOIR! On this album it was THE OAKLAND INTERFAITH GOSPEL CHOIR. I have seen them perform at least 17 times live and, let me tell you, they are TOP NOTCH. Linda was their special guest once around the time she released Cry Like A Rainstorm...and she was so humble to be performing with them. ✌
Aaron Neville is a great solo artist and also part of a family group called "The Neville Brothers". His version of the songs "Tell It Like It Is" and "Ave Maria" as just beautiful. Linda can literally sing anything. Both are/were so talented.
Absolutely beautiful songs by him for sure... just a uniquely amazing voice! ❤
Truly he has. A. Good voice but Linda Ronstadt was being kind. She has awards in opera, Spanish and rockin roll
Aaron's "Ave Maria" is indeed incredible. And it was Linda who arranged the music to perfectly fit his voice.
Aaron Neville is from New Orleans.
Born and raised in New Orleans, the Neville brothers and Aaron Neville are a part of my childhood, and life, forever.
Aarons version of Ave Maria was playing during my walk down the aisle.
One of the best Neville brothers songs, in my humble opinion is, washable ink.
They weren't in love, they were in love with singing together, they did a total of 4 duets on her "Cry Like a Rain Storm, Howl Like the Wind" album. All of them are phenomenal tracks.
Yes, Britt, an athelete. In an old 'celebrity' magazine, he was once described as, ". . . body of a wrestler, voice of an angel."
They were not lovers, just artists that admire each other's work and good friends.
Greatest duet ever, two fantastic voices at their best . Aaron was so underrated .
Possibility The Best Love Song EVER
Yes, Aaron is that good. The most impressive for me is two people who both sing with vibrato singing in perfect harmony.
Aaron’s unique voice conceals how powerful it is.
I’ve heard Linda talk about Aaron. She said he sang like an angel. She has such a high regard for his singing.
There are 5 Neville brothers, and they are an outstanding R&B Soul group...
Aaron Neville is one of the greatest singers of our time!!!
Linda has a beautiful amazing range of texture in her voice. Aaron is also out of this world. A stellar performance.
Linda keeps her harmony softer than Aaron's lead by just the right amount, and then gets louder when she takes lead. It's like a beautiful vocal dance.
Very perceptive at the end noting how Linda modulated her voice perfectly to match Aaron's (knowing she could sing the chandeliers off the ceiling if she wanted to). And please let's recognize the brilliance of the writing, another banger by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil who have spent the last 60 years writing some of the most beautiful songs ever.
Yes!! Mann & Weil have over 600 songs spanning 5 decades (mostly together as they are married), including the Ronstadt & Ingram duet Somewhere Out There.
Barry also wrote You’ve Lost That Lovin Feelin.
@@TheDivayenta He and his wife Cynthia wrote it.
Aaron- Louisiana born & raised!!
What a voice & a big ol teddy bear in real life! ❤️
Aaron's voice was unique and Linda's was among the best female voices in all recorded music. Separately, they were both headliners...but together, the blend was pure magic. Although "Don't Know Much" was most popular, two more of their duets are just as beautiful: "All My Life" ( ua-cam.com/video/PcC5N13D3_Y/v-deo.html ) and "Please Remember Me" ( ua-cam.com/video/4H-wZQv-qUo/v-deo.html ). This rendition of "Please Remember Me" is somewhere in my lifetime Top 5 list of all popular music.
Aaron is just that good. He is the real deal as well! Aaron & Linda did a handful of duets together appearing on each others albums every now and then. The two of them together, it just doesn't get any better. For real. 😊
Aaron Neville is Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's face it, everyone loved Linda. And Aaron Neville is just that good. Check him out, and the Neville Brothers as well.
They were actually asked to "sell it" and they were both kind of apprehensive about it. Apparently Aaron Neville's wife, who was in the audience, told him they really should sell it. Such a beautiful performance, they certainly snared me. I am sure that these two artists do actually love each other deeply, just not in the way the song sounds.
Actually, no. It was a different time. There was a video for the song where they very, very mildly "sold it." I haven't seen it in decades but I don't think they even touched. Nonetheless, there was racist hatemail after it came out. In a later interview, Linda said the suits called her into the office before this performance & told her there was to be no "selling it" between she, a white woman, & he, a black man. She said, as she left the office, she thought, "Oh, yeah? Watch this!" I imagine Aaron's wife would have agreed or Linda wouldn't have done it. But you are right that they loved & respected each other as artists & friends.
@@MizCriz46 Incorrect, but I'm not going to argue it any. I watched the performance in real time. There was no uproar. That is a current day trend to say there is controversy when there is not any.
@@catserver8577 There would be no controversy today. But it was 1989. 34 years ago things were different. Believe it or not, the country was far more benighted than it is today. I was 42 years old (same as Linda) & a fan of both. No, there was no "uproar" at the performance. But there had been hate mail (actual letters in those days) & phone calls about the video. There was, indeed, controversy which is why Linda was asked about it in an interview much (years) later. She did say she was told, in effect, hands off & that she thought to herself, "Oh, yeah? Watch this."
Precisely, Love out of mutual respect of each others ability to sing and perform.
@@MizCriz46 It was 1989 and they were at an industry Awards Show. The fact that she didn't heed the advice you're talking about - and nobody cared - just proves the point. Don't paint this as some brave social breakthrough. They sang a wonderful duet and embraced afterwards. The affection was real. If there was some bozo backstage telling them keep apart - it sure wasn't anyone with clout. I guarantee you that every awards show got angry mail for all sorts of dumb reasons. Now complainers can complain in real-time about insignificant things. Gotta love social media. :)
He guest-starred on her 1989 album "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind." Another big hit duet of theirs from the album was "All My Life" (which became a big wedding song), and they also dueted on the gorgeous song "When Something is Wrong with My Baby." They weren't a real-life couple. Aaron and his brothers (as The Neville Brothers), out of New Orleans, had hits going back to the '60s. Aaron with his amazing vibrato was rediscovered and came on strong again in the '80s and '90s (which prompted the pairing with Linda).
I get major goosebumps every time I hear Linda Ronstadts voice. Her musical biography (those she’s written for etc…) is absolutely Incredible! ♥️🎶♥️ SO MUCH RESPECT!
The Neville brothers are LEGENDS.
“Ave Maria” by Aaron Neville is absolutely breathtaking ❤
Loved their friendship. Amazing duet.
Linda is so good a singer if you didn't catch it she matched his vibrato towards the end (5:20 on) making it blend insanely. This was beautiful. Favorite Linda story; she decided to do a Latin music album, the label said it would ruin her career, she then went on to make the album and all it did was become the biggest selling Latin music album in American history. Take that label LOL. The Neville Bros. had some really good music as well. Linda and Aaron were good friends that's all.
Linda is in the top 3 voices of all time.. Fight me.
I think Britt is starting to realize how versatile Linda was.
Oh yeah. Loved Aaron too.
One of the most beautiful duets. Both have fabulous voices. Also check out Linda's first big hit in 1967 "Different Drum" with The Stone Poneys. Other hits were "Hurt So Bad", "You're No Good", "Long Long Time", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado", Tracks Of My Tears" etc.
This is one of the most awesome duets I’ve ever heard (and I’m 66 years old). The harmonies are just sensational! Lindaa is so careful not let her powerful voice overshadow Aaron’s beautifully gentle tones. Pure perfection!
Aaron Neville is a vocal GOD in my eyes. I cry everytime i hear this song, its so beautiful !!!!
could you please try Aaron Neville ...
don't take away my heaven!
The look ... The Passion was real They were very good friends...
Totally got chills watching this again!
Linda gave love another shot with Aaron in 1989. The music icon and the R&B and soul vocalist recorded a handful of duets together throughout their relationship
I am so happy you have discovered Aaron Neville..his voice is sublime!
He sang with his brothers for yrs…still is I’m sure. Bird on a Wire is just
stunning, Britt, you would love it! Linda and him dueted a few times and
each time was fire. Thank you for this! Peace and Love from 🇨🇦
Aaron Neville has the voice of a angel!
Aaron has a band with his brothers "The Neville Brothers" and they are my favorite band of all time. Their whole Yellow Moon album is perfection. And yes he is football player muscle-y. I was backstage at 1 show & walked past Aaron who was wearing a sleeveless shirt and I can tell you that man was BUFF. Like his arms were bigger around than my thighs!
They are so wonderful together - and Aaron's singing always makes my eyes cloudy... ❤
Bob Dylan said Aaron Neville is his favorite singer. His song "Tell It Like It Is" is a must-listen. He also sang with his brothers.
When they finished recording this in the studio, Aaron said to Linda “I’ll see you at the Grammys”. He knew it was going to be a winner
I love this man's voice. Could listen to him all day long.
Linda lived down here in New Orleans and so did he. Always loved that song. They were both great artist and he is a legend down here and he has some brothers and sister that are also musicians.
The Neville Brothers of New Orleans are legends of soul music!!! All the ladies adored Aaron. ❤😊 A couple more great ones:
James Ingram and Patti Austin: Baby, Come to Me
Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack- I Celebrate My Love ( 70’s?)
Ingram and Linda on Somewhere Out There from An American Tail. ❤
Just for starters! ❤We had the great love songs!!!
Aaron’s big solo hit was Tell It Like It Is. ❤
One of the best duets of all time! I could watch it a 1000 times!
Perhaps one of my all time favorites .... Besides I LOVE each individually ❣️❣️❣️😍
This beautiful, sappy song was a huge hit!
Another incredible duet of an amazing song by true professionals in perfect harmony. Aaron's "It feels like rain" is not a song to be missed!
One of the best duets ever!
In answer to your question, they did have a relationship that ended in 1992. Today, she has little voice due to illness. Those gorgeous notes will never again tickle her throat. We ost a true talent from the stage and will miss her. So glad you saw what they once had together. :D
I remember watching this during the original broadcast and thought this was one of the best duets I had ever heard.
2 of the greatest singers of our time ❤
I’ve always loved his voice and it matches so well with Linda! Thanks 👵🏼☮️💜
I can't believe you haven't heard Aaron Neville. Both of these singers are fantastic.
Aaron is THAT dude . his voice is one of a kind
I don't know much but I know this is absolutely beautiful and the words in this song ring out true
🔥🔥🔥 and so are the words of your reaction, Britt 😊😊😊
I see what you did there. Well played sir
I remember every time he came on the radio it was instant recognition. Then came the swooning. He was such a beautiful man.
Beautiful performance, great reaction!
One of the greatest duets ever. Linda was opera trained.
Linda would retrain her voice when she wanted to tackle a new genre because the demands on the voice are different but she had no formal training as an opera singer.
Musical Magic! Thanks for keeping great music alive!
BRITT I'M SO HAPPY YOU GOT THIS ONE. ISN'T IT AMAZING AND NEVILLE CAN DO BEAUTIFUL ON HIS SOLO. BUT TOGETHER WHAT MAGIC.❤❤ THANK YOU..
This brought such tears 😭 to my eyes. My husband and I loved it so. Incredibly beautiful, it perfectly expresses the deep love we've shared for 42 years. He was my big strong guy with a tender heart of gold and I was the only woman in the world. My husband's early onset dementia means those glorious memories are all mine now and it's happy tears when I am transported back to our days of youth and golden love. Treasure those you love, life is so short. Love is forever.
From what I've seen in interviews they had a very special friendship. Beautiful song.
Aaron Neville has the voice of an angel. He and his brothers are Louisiana natives. Some of my favorite songs of his:
"Everybody Plays the Fool"
"Louisiana 1927" (about the Great Mississippi flood that killed nearly a million people in LA and MS)
"Angola Bound" (Angola is a notorious Louisiana prison)
"Somewhere, Somebody"
"All My Life" (another duet with Linda)
"Warm Your Heart"
"I Bid You Goodnight"
And with his brothers: "Tell It Like It Is" and "Bird on a Wire" and "Brother John / Iko Iko / Jambalaya" (a medley)
They are friends. Great duet. I just love this song.
Linda was a master at singing harmonies
One of the greats of all time Aaron Neville - and who doesn't love Linda Ronstadt. I think they were obviously great friends with great respect for each other.
I met all of the Neville Brothers when I worked at Tower Records in the French Quarter in the 90's. Jim
I had forgotten how much I loved his voice..
Thank you for bringing this back to me
Their performance of this song is definitely swoon worthy.
When Linda was in New Orleans she attended a show with the Neville Brothers and Aaron was encouraged to call her up. Afterwards when they recorded the song, Aaron told her he would see her at the Grammys and this was from that show. When the song won the Grammy he thanked Linda first and she had to remind him he should thank his wife as well.
The first time I heard his voice over the radio I had chills all over. Their voices are just so beautiful together ❤
Two people with amazing voices.
Both beautifu/talented people. I grew up listening to both. I M 73RS OLD & STILL A GREAT FAN.
One of the best duets of all time!
Neville is a physical beast, but his voice is so gentle and welcoming. Linda was almost out of her comfort range trying to accommodate his voice and its ridiculous upper register. the guy is a freak of nature, Linda was amazing, was a great performance. a good one to show in this day and age.
Amazing performance aaron neville is an amazing singer earth angel and bird on a wire are equally amazing performances
This was my wedding waltz song and 30 years later we are still feel the same ❤❤❤😊
I've always loved that song. Those lyrics are so amazing "I don't know much, but I know I love you...and that may be all I need to know".
I remember that performance. It was magical even in black and white with mono sound.
Neville’s voice was like a viola, or violin. Linda’s voice is like an oboe. Together this is a stunning performance.
Arron belongs to a whole family of singers from NOLA. I think this was from the Oscars this song was from American Tale, I think.
They sound so good together!
Aaron Neville has a wonderful voice. One of my favorite songs by him is "Everybody Plays the Fool". Linda Ronstadt has done everything from country to pop to rock to opera. Check out "Poor Wandering One" from THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE. She also put out an album in Spanish, celebrating her father's Mexican heritage. Her last name is German and goes back to a male ancestor who came to North America from Germany several generations back. Her voice is so beautiful and she sang songs from nearly every genre, which really makes my heart break to know how her health has deteriorated. Now she is unable to sing at all. Patsy Cline will always be my favorite female singer, but Linda is definitely my next fav. We are so fortunate to have her recordings.
It's always a pleasure to hear AARON NEVILLE . Love your fabulous reviews lots of true soul within you .
two voices from heaven
This was our wedding song. Married now for 33 years.
They had rummers flying for sure. Extraordinary performance. Vulnerability in song.
Its just that good!
I saw Aaron Neville years ago with his family's band The Neville Brothers. Aaron came out with a cut off sleeves jean jacket, his arms as big as my legs, like he could rip someones head off, then he opened his mouth and sang like a song bird. It was the most bizarre juxtaposition I've ever seen, haha
Have been listening to Aaron Neville since the 60’s.
Aaron neville is amazing and who wouldn't want to kiss Linda in those days. Great performance great chemistry
I heard that song as a young boy in Europe for the first time and then I knew it was special, but even now as a grown ass man, Neville's voice blows me away on this song. Ronstadt does great too of course, but Jesus, Aaron Neville hits wonder notes I'd almost call them.
Tell it like it is..... One of the true classics.
I saw Aaron & Linda sing this live... I love them both.
All my life is another great song they did together..... It's worth watching
