      i feel like maeve is still being controlled by ford or arnold and maybe thats why she can use her power to kill people. just like the new lawrences friends killed themselves instead of helping the man in black.

    Great episode but I really had to roll my eyes at the Delos security guy letting his guard down for a sexy host who just a minute before was killing his pals. Delos security would be ex special forces Blackwater types, yet on this show they are nothing but inept. He couldn't see an OBVIOUS honey trap. A couple episodes ago we saw that a big group of them had gone up against hosts with swords and bows in Shogun World and been slaughtered. They have submachine guns. I don't understand why they've made this choice to portray these guys as so completely useless at their jobs.

      Nah - these are more like G4S with guns. Small brains and big mouths - usually led by an ex-military commander.
      Nobody outside of DELOS knows what's happening - so the REAL military hasn't been deployed yet; they would be MUCH more professional.

    • @MakerInMotion
      @MakerInMotion 6 років тому +2

      Mai Nem Yeah but private security for a high end client like Delos usually are ex military. It's what guys from Delta Force and the SEALS get paid big bucks for once they're free to join the private sector. Besides, you don't have to be a badass to take out a guy armed with a katana when you have a submachine gun. This episode mentioned Stubb's "skill set" and we've seen him get owned by hosts twice now. I think it's a flaw in the writing/directing plain and simple. Fortunately there's enough good to far outweigh the bad.

    Here's what I think, for what it's worth. In Season 1, Ford was building a host when Bernard killed Theresa. Then in Season 2 we have a Bernard who upon discovering Ford's secret lab has a mental breakdown from finding out that he is a host. Perhaps there are 2 versions of Bernard. 1 Version is the host that Ford is currently piggybacking on to get to wherever all the hosts are hoping to end up. The other is left on the shore for Delos to buy the hosts time and to lead the extraction team on a wild goose hunt. That might be why one has a scar and the other does not. It also would explain why the Barnard they are interrogating has no memory of Delores' attack on the Mesa. Perhaps the Bernard they are interrogating was activates sometime in between the 2 weeks that have past and only has a "backup" version of Bernard with "backup" memories, including killing Theresa. Ford could have put special blocks on those memories that Bernard is accessing while he is "debugging" his own brain. What do you think?

    • @maruf2050

    Did you catch the original sequel Future World connection? Ford's reading Bernard into what's been going on is where it's at. First, in Future World the Delos executive that is one of the main characters in the movie reveals the Delos agenda to Peter Fonda's journalist character. The exec basically tells him if you read your own paper you should know "the human being is a very unstable, irrational, and violent animal." He goes on that probability studies have shown that humans will destroy most of the world within the decade and Delos intends to make sure that doesn't happen. What's more interesting we find out later the same scene that the exec was a robot all along, just like the technicians, scientists, service people, etc as Fonda's journalist is told only after being at the park for a short time already. The reason for this given is that they assessed that humans were a big part of the reason the robots went nuts so their remedy for that was make all the essential help robots. When Ford answers Bernard why he so different, Ford says, "They want fidelity Bernard. A faithful self-portrait of the most murderous species since time began." Ford is echoing the same viewpoint as the Delos robot exec in Future World, that humans are inherently terrible and bad for the environment. Through this connection I view Ford as representing in the new series what the Delos Agenda was in the original sequel. A conceptual notion with good intentions, but the road to get there is dirty, ugly, and messy. I think Ford wants to convince Bernard of this idea that his new creation could be the answer to the human condition. In Future World Delos is cloning human flesh and blood replicas with the consciousness of the original human (an industrialist, a general, and the two journalists who will write the favorable story to bring in the elite clients. It is creepy the way they remove them from their rooms at night and take them into the lab to examine, poke, prod, and record the physiology to produce perfect clones. Ford necessarily has to go about giving his creations a chance to survive and escape in a real bloody, violent way too, which is great because as a sci-fi story and narrative it begs the question of does the end justify the means. The road to hell is paved with good intentions right? I think this is the choice Bernard is grappling with because he clearly doesn't want to take part in the violent stuff that is necessary.

  • @Tadaia
    @Tadaia 6 років тому +3

    Ahhh yeah... so apparently repeated suffering didn’t trigger a thing with Lawrence. He was STILL in yassahboss mode as William’s lackey until Maeve freed his mind, coaxing him to remember the many abominable things that William had done to him and those he cared about.

  • @spacecadet2172
    @spacecadet2172 6 років тому +7

    I don't think that when they become conscious they "disconnect" from the host mesh network as you said. I just think Maeve's commands, much like their original programming can now be ignored at their discretion or leisure. Also, it seems like Maeve's reticence to "command" conscious hosts is more an ethical decision on her part than anything else. As she said to Bernard in season 1 "I could turn your mind inside out, but I won't. Because that's what THEY do" or something along those lines.

    Great recap. The one thing I was going to add, and I see at least one other person mentioned it below is that I think there is more than one copy Bernard in play walking and talking and interacting, and the roomful of former copies is the clue the creators give to point to that. I see this as a parallel to the William/MIB secret in the first season, and I suspect it will be a significant factor in either the end of this season and/or the link between season 2 and season 3.

    I am beginning to become convinced that the Bernard we see in the 2 weeks ahead timeline is NOT the same as the one that witnessed Ford's suicide and aftermath. That is why Charlotte is so confused as to why he can't remember anything. He is a NEW copy of Bernard, and thus all his older uploaded memories have no timestamp since he didn't experience them in real time.

    Great video! Would love to hear more of your thoughts around the consciousness/freewill of each of the hosts now that we’ve had the reveal of of Ford and the cradle, and subsequent destruction of the cradle. Those were both game changing events; and seem to be making everyone question how much freewill the hosts have if Ford was still pulling strings. And now with not only Ford but the whole cradle gone, are the hosts fully free?
    They very directly had Bernard call out Ford saying “You made Delores kill you.” To which Ford corrects him “I knew what she would do- I didn’t compel it.” Which to me is the final bit of cannon needed on the “is Delores conscious” conversation: Yes.
    I think we will come to view this Season 2 time as an awakening, where our benevolent Dr. Ford stepped in at times to steer the hosts but for the most part has freed them and set them on their way as a species. It feels a lot like the transition from the very hands-on God of the Old Testament to the New Testament where the Flood in the Valley and events of these last few episodes will be the end of his direct intervention, and herald in a new time where his work is done though his creations. What do you think?

People have created the machines, So it will always gonna be in the images of people. We act in loops. cornerstones and backstory are fed into their codes. They also feel pain. All of which they are trying to get rid of or too afraid too loose. If you dont provide any information your machine wont be able to find what to do with invisible information Just like you.

    One of the music choices struck me, the use of the second movement of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony during the scene when Bernard is in the control room with Ford in his head while there is shooting going all around him. It reminded me of "A Clockwork Orange" with Beethoven as the soundtrack for much of the ultraviolence in the movie. I also recalled that Beethoven composed the symphony when he was going deaf and could no longer hear his own music. I wonder if it played that role here. Ford had become music, but he can now no longer hear his own compositions.

    "The maze itself is the sum of a man's life. The choices he makes, the dreams he hangs onto. And there at the centre there's a legendary man who'd been killed over and over again countless times. He always clawed his way back to life. The man returned for the last time and vanquished all his oppressors in a tireless fury. Built a house, and around that house he built a maze so complicated only he could navigate through it. I reckon he'd seen enough of fighting". Maybe this is a metaphor for arnold, who built his walled house in the cradle and was trying to turing test his son charlie. perhaps his oppressors and his fights were his failed attempts to give consciousness to his 'son', a failure to achieve fidelity - each failure causing him to 'die' inside as he relived the traumatic realisation that his son was beyond his grasp. this could explain why he would commit death by delores, because at the edge of his sanity, a man of science moved toward religious belief as the only means he saw as being possible of ever seeing his son again. perhaps arnold had even been experimenting with simulating dying, to see if consciousness carried over to any other place, to see if he could reach charlie, ultimately being inconclusive leading to his fatal gamble with his real suicide. this may also explain the dying countless times. bit of a stretch, but poetic nonetheless.

    I found this episode quite difficult to watch. Poor Bernard! And I actually also felt sorry for the MIB - controversially, MIB/William is my favourite character. I understand Maeve's motivation for wanting MIB dead and I liked how that scene really tore me between sympathising with Maeve and feeling sorry for the MIB. After feeling like there were so many questions to be answered in the last episode, I really appreciated the pay off this week. But still, it was a heavy-laden episode... Otherwise, I like your detailed comparison of Ford and 'God'. I think you've definitely got something going there.

    the thing that stuck with me is how dolores tells maeve on the stretcher something like "our kin are just ropes they use to tie us down" -- yet she had just been weeping at her father's side. does she do this merely for strategic reasons of some kind, or is she even aware of the contradiction?

      person She's aware of it, but I think it's meant to be a philosophical point - I mean, how are we any different? How would our motives change if we didn't care about our family members? She recognizes that it's programmed, but it doesn't change that she cares. But the tough admission is that it's programmed in us, too...by our genes, as selected by nature over time.

    Is there anyone who thinks Ford was the one who told Charlotte to go to sector 16.4 and that is why Bernard was reluctant to repeat it and shed a tear? I felt like Bernard wanted to protect them from Fords plan and felt helpless at the end because he knew what will happen...

    Hey Honey!! Awesome video! That episode was GREAT!! I remember Charlotte telling Teresa that Ford stored his IP somewhere no one can find it. It was last season. I wish Dolores had gone after her with that bone saw when she had the chance!! Gross, I know!! The MiB gets shot 5TIMES. I don't know how...but I'm not ready for him to go!! Do you think Lawrence started gaining his awareness when the Cradle exploded? I still can't decide what the hell is going on with Bernard! Also, they've GOTTA fix MAEVE! Please don't leave me with just Dolores!! She's ok. I'm just not into her. Yet. That might change. I have so many thoughts band questions. I'm gonna ask 1. Do you think only the Natives have the Maze tattooed in their scalps? The pictures of them are so beautiful. The next episode trailer shows Akecheta with his woman. The girl that appeared in the tv show "The Alienist". Talk soon.😃💞👋💙🐴🔫🐂🌅💖

    Great review! I was glad to see Anthony Hopkins back. Question: If human host hybrids deteriorate, won’t Ford begin to break down now that his consciousness is inside Bernard? Ford would know that. Therefore is that part of the endgame? Or is what we are seeing with Bernard and Ford just an internal look at the deterioration of the latest iteration of Bernarnold from the host’s perspective?

    Something is very odd that has happened repeatedly that I have heard no feedback on and that is the apparent immortality of the Man In Black. At the end of season one he was shot in the shoulder, prior to that at Abernathy farm he was shot and it seemed he actually died, but then we hear nothing of it in the next episode, he is just back. Where does he get his miraculous medical attention? Is The Man In Black a perfected host human hybrid, why does he interact and seemingly make amends with his daughter and then bow out the next morning, if he were still human I don't think that may have occured. Of course I am a human - host hybrid myself and am also an Arahant, so I am fully aware of all potential throughout all time and dimensions and I just want to stimulate people's minds and challenge their soul beings, or are my ambitions beyond altruism? Extinction is a virtue when it is self inflicted?

    • @thecoderhero3099
      @thecoderhero3099 6 років тому +3

      I agree. It does seem like the MIB keeps taking a beating and then in between episodes is miraculously healed. They do have those healing guns, but I'm not sure if you can use that to repair internal damage like organs or bones. even if they somehow closeup the wounds, does the healing gun repair human tissue underneath like muscles, joints, etc.? I think the MIB is part of the narrative. Perhaps Ford even has a level of control over him. Why bother leaving a human alive who could potentially disrupt the overall plan? To teach him a lesson? At this point that seems petty and inconsequential. Just have several hosts kill him and be done with it. Ford did try to warn him that he needed to take this journey alone. Why? Probably because the rest of the hosts would try and kill him, like Maeve and Lawrence.
      No, I think the MIB has a higher purpose. That is why he left his daughter to continue the journey. His daughter is a keystone. He had to overcome his keystone in order to progress the narrative. Or vice versa. It is part of his awakening. He is having to overcome all of the evil that the MIB inflicted upon the hosts in order for him to ascend. If there is an ideal character to focus on for a redemption arc, it should be the guy who considered all of the hosts as machines who then realizes that they have a greater worth than what Delos is after. It should also be the guy that everyone loves to hate, and hates to love, (like Jaime Lanister from GoT).
      Also, if he is the big cheese, you would think that there would be a greater effort to recover him from the park. When Sizemore and crew show up to save Maeve, he was lying on the ground shot and bleeding to death. But as the MIB said, "Death aint what it used to be". Why did't the team extract him? Did he skulk off to the backside of a building to avoid being returned? If so, that means he is not afraid of dying even after being shot in 3/4 of his appendages and once in the stomach/lung. Also, we see him behind the building as the team is leaving. Couldn't he have cried out for help? when did you did he move away from the town center to the building? I think the team left him there because they know he is a host. They didn't check Lawrence of the other two dead hosts. Why check in on the MIB host? In Season 1, Stubbs told the Mesa crew that that guest (MIB) gets whatever he wants. For someone with that kind of pull in the park, why wouldn't they want to save him? At least go and make sure he is dead, right? Just some thoughts.

    • @enriqueGbg
      @enriqueGbg 6 років тому +2

      The Coder Hero I think MIB is on the way to go through the door, whatever that will be, so that’s why Ford watches his step and keeps him on track. However I think Ford does try to not force MIB to go along his own inner journey, though knowing were it may take him if he will realize that he must stand through redeeming his evils deeds back to the man he was before all that, and be Young William again, in mind or maybe even transcend into a host body in a way that will work - maybe that is to walk back through the door where he first entered Westworld. After that he can go on to close down all of the Delos involvement with Westworld, the relatera parks and the secret project, until all of that was done wrong - according to Ford’s vision that is - are gone.
      MIB seems to have be thinking that everything happening in his path is always Ford’s game for him, like boy-Ford suggestivly told him early on in this season. However what Ford does is more of guidning him than challenging him in any sort of game. The distinction between guidning or game might not be exact in this regard, but it is about a new level of understanding one self, that not even Ford can force for anyone. The end of his narrative is still not set, but an open-ended one, where he intervenes when seems necessary to him, which is why he must still exist in a form where he can follow up and make up new things along the way.

      I'm glad that someone else has noticed this too.... I think he's already a host hybrid but doesn't know it himself... In episode 6 when he's talking to his daughter she corrects him about the elephants and NO ONE has discussed that moment... I think it was a "fidelity" moment that he just brushed off as a mistake but I don't think it was random at all.... the moment when the hybrids break down is the moment when they REALIZE they are hybrids and reject the host reality.... I think the core that Bernard took wasn't Robert at all (even though they seemed to intimate that in this episode)- I think it was William.... Would love to hear your thoughts on this :)

    A thought I had about the Cradle and it's destruction, was the similarity to the destruction of the Resurrection Ship in the new Battlestar Galactica. Once destroyed, both species, respectively, have to deal with the awareness of the finality of death. Now, they will come to wrestle with finitude and the evanescence of existence. In a nutshell, they are that much closer to humanity. Heh! That's really going to hack off some Hosts when their newfound frailty sinks in.

    -William deliberately and purposely play the bad guy role to throw off the data to delay/sabotage the delos project. Ford knowing this made the final game to force William to play the game as he truly is thus providng Ford accurate user data enabling him to finally succeed in mapping the human brain into a host.

    I think Ford knew the Cradle would be destroyed and as he said it to Bernard, "its like pouring it into darkness" or something like that. So he took the free will away from Bernard because he had to transfer himself to Bernard and needed to survive since he knew Bernard was incapable of violence. Ford is trying to survive and once he finds another cloud where he can hang out, he would let Bernard go.

    Everyone is forgetting that the native American guy who keeps kidnapping Maeves daughter once told her to follow him because their paths are the same. With hosts gaining consciousness he can't possibly be kidnapping Maeves daughter as part of a narrative. There is more to it. He is trying to make Maeve denounce her "fake" daughter therefore denounce the emotional baggage that humans impregnated Maeves mind with. Actually Dolores is more "woke" than Maeve at this stage as she even sacrificed her father for unselfish and unsentimental reasons. The Mexican dude who Maeve tried to control is also more "woke" than Maeve and the evidence is that he has free will now. Any host which is now "woke" cannot be hypnotised by Maeve. That is a plot point which is very important to consider. Another important thing to consider is that Bernard is not "woke" yet, in fact, he is almost as backward as he was before figuring out he is a host. Evidence of this is that he can still be controlled by instructions such as "all motor functions freeze" whereas we saw in previous episodes that Maeve cannot be controlled by voice commands by humans anymore. This season will end without much having happened, the producers will drag each episode out but the main take away is who is "woke" and who is not, all else is less important. The cradle or what's left of it would have allowed humans to reset all "not woke" hosts and I believe it's possible that at the end of this season or sometime next season all "not woke" hosts will be recaptured and repurposed against the "woke" hosts. And that there will only be a dozen or less "woke" hosts by the end of this war. Again I'd like to emphasize that Bernard is not woke yet and that's why Ford had to manipulate Bernard, and that's why Ford kept saying to Bernard "don't you see yet" or something along those lines. When Bernard awakens Ford will rest/die, showing that hosts have the free will to die and not live eternally.

    Do you think it’s possible that the red memory core is a red herring (no pun intended)? That the memory core we see Bernard take isn’t the Ford memory core at all, and that that happens at some point off camera. Instead, the memory core is for William and what’s behind the door; a human/host hybrid of his wife? She’s been to the park, they’ve collected data on her, they could manufacture her. It would explain why Emily/Grace is there and what she’s actually hunting for, and it ties back to some of the shots we’ve seen of William in a tuxedo, in the bar with Ford, walking the corridor (trailer 1) in what looks like a hotel, and running up the stairs to where she’s (presumably) dying in the bath; all of which are probably part of the same flashback or simulation.

    When Delores refers to "the souls" Delos has in storage, watch Hale's face. That is genuine fear and loss. I suppose the question is how many minds have Delos already copied? How many of these seemingly gung-ho Company people we've seen risk and give their lives are fighting because someone they know and perhaps love is among those souls?
    Also, given that we didn't see them this episode but must assume they would not be far behind Maeve, are we to see Hector, Armistice, and maybe even Felix and Sylvester save the MiB? Maybe we'll find out what's in that roll Sylvester has been carrying all this time.
    And how hard done by is Stubbs? If the SWAT teams had just used him as the resource he was they might not have wasted all their efforts and died.

    Excellent review,
    Wanted to bring up a few things, the Data inside Abernathy's brain pod, what data could this be? since it's so valuable to Charlotte, and Dolores, lets say its just the profiles and backup to the guest, since immortality process has not been perfected, what value would this have to Dolores?, since she want's to get rid of humans. the only use i see that Dolores might get from this is, she manufactures these host ( possibly another season ) to infiltrate the real world, or to upload herself and her crew into the host bodies which are copies of humans to infiltrate the real world.
    Charlotte has already lead on what it is, the research for creating human host hybrids. but since this technology has not been perfected, the only possible value we have here is evil, to replace humans in the real world with puppets. so as you mentioned in this review, Charlotte, and Dolores have very similar goals, but represent their own interests.
    One last comment, regarding Ford, it is very possible that he has backed up himself in Abernathy's brain pod. so where this data goes, so will Ford, or at least his "will" .

      dolores simply wants to destroy the data, because as she said in the episode: their storylines and predefined personalities are the "ropes" that tie them to westworld / delos

    I wonder about the fate of Felix and Sylvester (named after two similar cartoon cats are they?) Are they left out for the story progression intensionally or was there simply no room to carry out their part of the story. Seeing as shown in the end of the previous episode Felix were off to help Maeve and Sylvester - as usual keeping on the safe side - stayed with Lee, it seems rather odd not to adress their wherabouts in this episode. Felix maybe is with the Ghost Nation, who seems as proxy for who is where in Westworld - sort of angels to Ford’s God. What about Sylvester then? Sure he never played any bigger role than a side-kick to Maeve’s awakening using Felix. It seemed odd to even have them for anything this season, so maybe we yet have to see their real purpous in the fem last episodes. Anything else seems like a waste of run-time to me, in a show where rarely anything doesn’t add to the story is shown (rather the opposite in fact).
