      Why does nobody seem to realise the reason he didn't just open fire was because they were told a gunfight in the cradle would set the place aflame. The chemicals there are highly volatile so it makes sense why someone wouldn't just go in guns blazing. His thirst was stronger than his survival instinct tho I agree.

      Sanity Is Radical “Robots are murdering everyone. Therefore, I will flirt with one of these murderous robots” is basically the internal monologue that was going on in this scene

    • @system0fadowner251
      @system0fadowner251 6 років тому +4

      Ian Jurica lol,he wasn't flirting. He was a meathead horn dog thinking he had a toy to play with since she dropped her weapon and was standing in a pool of her own blood. Not a perfect scene, but my point was only on why he didn't shoot her.

    • @LordSluggo
      @LordSluggo 6 років тому +21

      Sanity Is Radical Semantics. That man was probably in a life-or-death shootout with murderous robots not even an hour before that scene, and then thought he was going to stick his penis in one of those same robots. It makes zero sense.

    • @system0fadowner251
      @system0fadowner251 6 років тому +3

      Ian Jurica I agree it's an old trope, but like I said, my point was just over why it made sense for him not to open fire in the Cradle.

    This whole season has felt too "mystery boxish" to me. I remember being able to watch the first season episodes over and over because cool things happened every episode while telling a story about interesting characters. Now it feels like I'm just waiting for characters to tell me what the big secret is while they spout philosophy in dark rooms.

    Maev controls hosts by putting voices in their head. Hosts that are conscious can tell the difference between Maev's voice and their thoughts, hence it not working. She gives choice to hosts that are conscious and are capable of making their own decisions.

      It's truly disappointing that I've had to resort to UA-cam summaries to understand the show. I loved S01, but this season is just too far over most of the audience's head to take away anything substantial. It's like when you wake up and have so many dreams you're not sure which ones were separated from each other, or simply part of the same dream.

    When Dolores opens her father's head, it kind of reminded me the birth of Pallas Athena in Greek mythology. In that case, Zeus has a crazy headache like Abernathy and desperately needs to extract what's causing his pain. Dolores is not Athena, but her mission is similar as she becomes a sort of War Godess.

Surely not quite who I'd envisioned as coming to save them lol

      The problem with the EMP idea is that it assumes Delos is more concerned with human lives than with the electronic data that is the thing they have made absolutely clear is their only priority. Until every scrap of that data has been recovered and extracted from the park, EMP is not an option they would ever consider. Especially if all it would gain for them is saving a few human lives, which it has been made clear they don't value highly.

  • @LN997-i8x
    @LN997-i8x 6 років тому +99

    I'm confused as to why Lawrence, Clementine and the other hosts who get shot in episode 7 are being treated as if they're "dead".
    Sure, the loss of the cradle makes them "mortal", but none of them are shown being shot in the head, and Dolores has resurrected numerous other hosts at this point. It's a bit confusing in terms what the rules for host death are now.

    • @TimoGraw
      @TimoGraw 6 років тому +27

      Agreed. Even Peter Abanathy's control unit still is intact. It should be trivial to boot him up in another body, right?

    • @sjb_92
      @sjb_92 6 років тому +17

      I don't think so, Clementine's last stand scene was clearly it for her. Same goes for Peter Abernathy and his tearful goodbye. Dolores res'd hosts with a tec that she left on a train to die and while you could say 'there's surely more of those guys' I don't think they're planning on bringing back any of them.

    • @akrybion
      @akrybion 6 років тому +16

      K W Or why Sakura's death was supposed to be a big deal. Just reboot her. As we know the hosts don't even lose memory, so it's not like "she won't be the same".

      Stephen Bonning clementine will return in the coming episodes

    • @LN997-i8x
      @LN997-i8x 6 років тому +16

      P K Sakura's death being final was related to Akane's decision to not be "awoken". Maeve respects her choice, and part of that is not tampering with her life, which includes Sakura. Maeve may also see Sakura's death as a necessary part of Akane's path to consciousness (mirroring her own).
      It's also unclear if Maeve can resurrect hosts. Given the scope of her powers, I would assume she can, but we haven't seen her do it yet.

  • @thehumanity0
    @thehumanity0 6 років тому +10

    I've also been saying that what Maeve did to Lawrence was bullshit. She only "awakens" him and makes him see a few of the worst memories with William as a way to manipulate him into killing William. She doesn't make Lawrence see the time that he betrayed William when he was younger and left him for dead with the Confederatos. At that time in his life, he didn't have a wife in his loop kind of proving his wife was just a part of "the game" in the first place, but William even saved his wife this time, and this time around when the hosts have broken out of their loops is arguably the most important because now there's no coming back from death.

    I thought this was the best episode of Westworld this season hands down, it even vying for the best episode of Westworld ever. I don't think I've ever had so many breath-holding moments over any episode of any show ever!! I do wish they hadn't teased the Bernard reveal, even though we knew. It would have had more impact. I can't really complain about much else. I can't even imagine what will happen in the last three episodes.

    There is something really itching me and it's the fact the Charlotte is the feminine version of the name Charlie who is Bernard's dead son. She is also African-American and to be super suspicious here i think that the shade of her skin is the exact same as Charlie's when we see him. She could also be the right age at the present WW timeline. Could it be that Ford actually programmed Bernard to remember a son and not a daughter, and that Charlotte didn't actually die from her illness?? I mean we have learned there are no coincidences in this show and there are too many coincidences here...

    I'm on a re-watch of the series, and watching the explainer after watching each episode is really helpful. Season 2 remains both exasperating and fascinating, but these explainers tip the balance toward fascinating. Somebody should "explain" to Nolan and Joy that making the action this difficult to track doesn't make them look smart, it makes them look arrogant and sloppy.

      Agree, and fully understand the sarcasm. This season had a great start, the scenes in Shogun world were beautifully shot, but overall the plot and writing lose quality IMO. I hope they stop to put plot armor on important figures, otherwise everything becomes entirely pointless.

      Generally ASX will low-key call it like it is. You can see it in the GOT videos, he was completely earnest and did not crack one sarcastic joke until Season 5, and even then it was only a few times for the worst stuff. By S7 though he was throwing full on shade regularly, just still completely deadpan.

      You can just imagin she picked up a granade from a dead soldier. I have no clue why they went for this strange scene. Maybe they really wanted a welcome to westworld line in this season or they the actress was paid a good chunk of money for looking good and they wanted to get their moneys worth out of her. Who knows.

    I noticed this season is full of deus ex machinas. The hosts somehow randomly remember their past lives, which wakes them up without any techs noticing...
    And somehow their pre-programmed feelings have the ability to ignore the code? It's not like their feeling are coded in to make them more human... nooo... it has a magical effect on their minds that breaks the evil, evil code...

    • @aerynsunx
      @aerynsunx 6 років тому +18

      Hope Simpson Well then you missed the point that his character was a joke. He was a stereotypical, action movie, macho man. With his growly Scottish brogue, and his tough guy, no-nonsense attitude; all ready to kick ass and take names. Coughlin even threw out an action hero type catch phrase right before he *failed* to kill Teddy. This stereotypical human bullshit was turned on its head when he proved no match for one host. It's telling that he was beaten to death by Teddy, the once passive and mild-mannered host who'd been abused and killed so many times before.

      Except, of course, hosts aren't made of metal. They are made by the process so clearly demonstrated in the opening credits. Thirty years ago they were made of metal endoskeletons with a fake skin covering, but they improved the design considerably and made them much closer analogues of humans. This was all covered in season 1.
      Vaguely related side note: One interesting thing that the multiple Bernard's scene finally gives us confirmation on is that they can (or could till the cradle was destroyed) migrate host minds from one body to a newer iteration of the same body. Which confirms that present Dolores is an updated model rather than still being one of the older chassis wandering around. (Maeve's rebuilding in Season 1 pretty much confirmed this, but was less clear as to whether it would count as an entirely new body, or a rebuild of the old one. Plus, it's also not clear whether Maeve ever was one of the older models or whether the first time she was built was more recent and so she has always been one of the newer models.)

      aerynsunx Good point to be honest when you look at that way, he just seemed like a really interesting character wanted to see more of him, I thought it was going to add more tension for the host, but no they're unstoppable killing machines.

    Is the mesh network different than the network that could blow all the explosives in all of the hosts (except Maeve) neck? Why haven't the humans just blown up all the robots yet? I remember a dropped line that the network was down but Maeve is using a network to access other hosts. I might have missed something I guess.

    • @BTiffney71
      @BTiffney71 6 років тому +1

      Probably because it would've destroyed Peter Abernathy too and they want real bad whatever's inside his brain... I guess they could've triggered it as soon as Dolores took his brain out but I guess the totally inept team of humans just didn't think about that since even the dead host floating in water 2 weeks later still have intact heads...

    Haha hey, I'm back at the CC here in town and sometimes it's fun to still go drink and hang out at a party if some can't go to bars. I'm only 27 though so it's not quite as silly.
    But yeah, the duality of freeing the hosts while controlling Bernard is a means to an end. It's weird hosts dying is now permanent for some reason, the geisha, Abernathy..can't they just heal them up? I mean with the Absters he's missing his core so that makes sense but still

    I get it. When a host created precisely after a human (like James Delos) doesn't know how the real person would have reacted, it bugs itself and breaks down. But if a host like Bernard that is allowed to improvise doesn't ever break down, then why don't they allow the copy hosts to just improvise a little? Seems like an easy fix. If that situation hasn't been tested with the real person, just let them improvise in the extent of the model's personality...

    Theory: I think just as Wyat is the antithesis of Dolores, and giving birth to a truly conscious being deciding between two opposing schools of thought at all times, so too will Ford be to Bernard. This would probably solve the cognitive plato issue nicely. Because neither will exist as we see them now. But merge into one mind. It’s poetic as well, because Ford would have truly never died. Instead becoming the very music he composed for so long.
