I love the "I think we aught to believe that she got to the other side" line. It fits regardless of what actually happens. If the chicken lives, it made it to the other side (road).. If the chicken died, it made it to the other side (afterlife).
The fact that he manages to turn the most basic universal joke, elaborate on the story, and turn it into a beautifully meaningful song that everyone can relate to. Genius is the correct word for Bo Burnham.
What a beautiful way to describe someone stunning you with their talent. (If you’re not a writer of some description, you really should start. You have a wonderful way with words!)
The Mona Lisa wasn't even that photorealistic. I've seen better art on a new york subway. The only thing amazing about it is the person who painted it.
For me, the most emotionally affective line in the song is “A life of brighter days… a width of road away”. If that’s not absolutely profound and devastatingly relatable to you, I envy your outlook on life.
The Joke is a pun for getting to the other side, the punchline is Bo convincing us its deep! Someone should make a psycological thriller about updog next, like what is updog?!! And can he be found under there?!
I'm defiantly going to finish it. Please be patient with me. This UA-cam gig is time consuming, lol. You can probably safely expect at least one video every two weeks on a given artist. One day I will be able to hire an editor and I can really pick it up but right now that's the best I can do :/ Thanks for taking this ride with me!
I love this song so so much, and this was a fantastic reaction to it. I get those same chills when watching this because I simply cant believe he was able to take something as well known and kind of stupid as the chicken crossing the rode joke and turning it into that emotional masterpiece.
I’m just honestly proud to have lived to see the chicken crossing the road fully realized and fully expressed. No matter what else history will say about us, we were the generation that answered the question about that chicken.
Awesome reaction to a great song. Bo’s the only person who can make everyone tear up over why the chicken crossed the road. It’s brilliant. If you haven’t seen them yet, I highly recommend these Bo tracks: Can’t Handle This (Kanye Rant) Left Brain, Right Brain Art is Dead We Think We Know You #deep Keep ‘em comin! Cheers
The fact this is unlisted and posted 2 days ago with 22 views tells me that maybe I shouldn't have been able to find this! Just giving you a heads up (no I'm not a channel member or anything.) found it when looking at your Bo reactions playlist. Excellent video though, look forward to seeing more Bo reactions!
I well up every time I hear it! Chills, tears... I even know how the song develops and it still gets to me! I say, "It's a joke, it's just a joke." Why can I relate to a chicken as a forty something year old woman with teen kids and a husband? This is crazy! Bo is a genius musically and lyrically. Thanks for checking this one out! Would love to see you react to anything Bo! He has a song called Can't Handle This (Kanye rant) that is worth checking out!
This is my favorite song from Bo. I tear up every time I listen to it, including your reaction. I think most people can identify with the chicken. We love our life, but we also have dreams of bigger things. Most of us are afraid to act on those dreams for fear of crashing and burning and our heart hurts when those braver than us make the leap and lose it all. Also, most of us feel really dumb when “why did the chicken cross the road” can make us cry and feel vulnerable.
You are not the only one. I cried so hard and I'm crying again now. I think for anyone struggeling to move forward in life because they are afraid but also unhappy with where they are it hits very hard.
I think my favorite part of the song is the fact that musically, he makes it unclear if its a happy ending or sad. Since its unclear if the chicken lived or not, when he finishes the song, he doesn’t play the final note, leaving a sense of standing at the edge, waiting for the confirmation of a happy or sad ending. But its left incomplete. The ending is abrupt so the interpretation and be left open.
this song makes me cry every single time i listen to it, its about so so SO much more than a chicken crossing the road, but it gives it a nice little laugh while youre sobbing LOL he is so talented its insane, no one can compare to him. He really is one of a kind.
Thank you for the reaction. You're the best! I'm not a native English speaker, and I felt the line about the road referred to something I was not familiar with but very meaningful. And after you mentioned it I googled it. It's like the whole new layer of culture with all the cross-links and connections opened :) I'm in love with what he does with the dead metaphors and old jokes. Beautiful casual poetry.
Getting emotional about a why did the chicken cross the road joke is what Bo does. Takes something you wouldn’t expect and turns it into something more unexpected.
Nah, you're not alone. This one chokes me up every time I see it, and I've seen it a million times. Bo can take a serious topic and make it a joke, and he can take a joke and make it a serious topic. He is truly a master wordsmith, and knows how to walk the line between comedy and real s**t
Brother, I was born into misery.. throughout life..and honestly; I want people to be happy.. I'm a combat vet. I've seen so much death, hurt, and destruction that my only hope is that there is good. It's hard sometimes.. but here we are. Good reaction, brother 👍
A woman who's allowed their entire life to be shaped by societal expenctations. They wake up every morning to their partner screaming, they raise the kids, and they finally decide one day to eacape and pursue their dreams. Not everyone makes it to the other side, but they have to at least try...
Bo is amazing, and I love literally 99.9% of his stuff. This song might be my favorite. I cry every time. If you haven't already, please check out: "art is dead" and "kanye rant." He also has a lot of silly songs worth checking out.
And from now on when someone asks why the Chicken crossed the road, ill tell them she wanted to become a dentist, they will ask why and through tears ill say "Im sorry, you wouldnt get it..."
Why did the Chicken cross the road? A-Euphenism for go to heaven"To get to the other side" Or B-literally get to the other side Bo's joke is the exact joke but provides more literal/dramatic context, what's funny is that it is indeed the same dumb chicken pun/Joke and it's not deep! Your feelings are valid though! It really shows the power of storytelling, music, and art, but the joke is getting you emotionally heavily invested in what is essentially a Pun 😅
It's the genious of bo. It's simultaneously a stupid chicken crossed the road joke and an emotional song about women trapped in abusive relationships (she woke up to the sound of her husband screaming). And just women trapped in the traditional gender role of a wife and mother. And ofc a beautiful melody.
I don’t think she’s in an abusive relationship. Her “husband” would be a rooster and roosters “scream” in the morning to wake up the farm. The whole “cock-a-doodle-do” thing.
Your little speech there when you paused the first time.. Yes. A hundred million thousand times yes. Just let people live their lives and figure things out. Don't shout and argue and fearmonger (perfect word-choice there for the record) and butt into how they decide to live their lives. It isn't anyone else's business but their own and if they want anyone else's opinion on it, let them turn to someone they trust. You have no right to evaluate or judge how someone else lives their life. If they are happy with their choices in life who are you to say they are wrong.
You should watch what actually happens to chickens in free range farms and slaughter houses. Find out what happens to the males because they don’t lay eggs.
Hi me again, revisiting the video, still love your reaction, just wanted to let you know you're so closely aligned with leftists, not sure if you've figured that out by now, regardless keep it up, you'll get there lol.
From both sides? This is a great metaphor on forcing women to have kids. Instead of letting them have an abortion. Which would allow them to rise up the economic ladder. And not all of them are pregnant because of consensual age appropriate sex.
I love the "I think we aught to believe that she got to the other side" line. It fits regardless of what actually happens.

This song is the equivalent of asking someone to draw you a smiley face and they give you the Mona Lisa.

Bo Burnham took a "Why did the chicken cross the road?" joke, and stapled it to my heart.
I love this song so so much, and this was a fantastic reaction to it. I get those same chills when watching this because I simply cant believe he was able to take something as well known and kind of stupid as the chicken crossing the rode joke and turning it into that emotional masterpiece.

My favorite element is her dream to be a dentist. Chicken don't have teeth.
An impossible dream? Just a joke? Both?
Impossible dream also there is a french idiom "When hens have teeth" the same like "when pigs fly" in english something that will never happen.
Bo Burnham is an ARTIST who uses comedy as a medium for art.
This songs hits every time. Bo has such a talent for evoking primal emotions from seemingly mundane things, always love him

the kanye rant and that funny feeling are just a couple of the greats and two of my favorite deeper bo songs

I sat in my car when i first heard this song... I cried for a good ten minutes after this song.
I HAD THE SAME EXACT REACTION TO THE PUNCHLINE LMAO. I remember being like, "this mf... THIS MF!".

will you be reaction to the full Inside special? It is so great as a whole start to finish
Yes. It’s coming. Just a ton in the editing bay right now so things are a little backed up. But it’s on the way
pourquoi ne pas réagir a " the chiken " de valeriy stepanov , juste pour voir la différence ; même sans réaction.Un vrai bonheur.

100% 🤡
This is unfortunately a song about suicide
Completely disagree.
