In other videos you instruct to first cut away from a previously carved chip to prevent "blow-out". In this video, you instruct to cut 2 sides of the chip and then cut the third side (the one that is back to back with the prior chip. Which is the proper technique or is that determined by the direction of the grain?
Hi Jack, good observation! This video was released 12 years ago. Since then I've changed the order of cuts. Whenever chips are back-to-back, make the cuts on the back-to-back area first. This will help preserve the delicate short grain area in-between the two chips! More lessons and Courses at mychipcarving.com
