This is the best explanation of chip carving I've seen, I've been trying to learn for a while but most videos aren't really clear I want your kit, how do I get it in the UK
you just made chip carving real easy :) but its not fo me though, when i push my knife (which is twin cherry) tip of the knife get curved so i just afraid of chip carving. Could you give me some advice on this cause its really annoying for me. Thanks anyway :)

How did you prepare the plate prior to applying your pattern? How much sanding and what grit sand paper was used? I'm wondering how smooth you want the wood prior to carving.
Sand through 220 grit or smoother prior to pattern application. The smoother the surface is the easier it will be to apply the pattern and carve. Good question.
In over 28 years of chip carving I've never cut myself. Please watch my video 101 on Proper Technique. With your thumb locked against the handle it is impossible to cut your thumb holding the knife. Keep your other hand out of the way and you'll carve safely all the time.

Maybe the blade is not sharp? Or the knife is not high quality. That is my best guess. More answers and info at mychipcarving.com
