Just bagged a minty mint set of D9 Forged after picking up a 7i demo club for no money. Beautiful in every way and cheap as chips. I tried these out too beforehand, also beautiful, but didn’t feel quite as soft off the face, especially off low strikes. Off to tryout the driver later this week. Could end up with that in the bag too, if it works as good as the reviewers say.
After your testing of the D9 forged and how great you hit them. I sure hope you give this less in your face brand a chance to prove itself in your bag.
80s and 90s, nick faldo, Bernard lager, vijay Singh, need I say more, I started playing in 85, and when I went with my uncles playing group I literally drooled over Wilson staff goose necks owned by a 2 handicap we used to play with 😂😂😂😂😂, I waited years for my 1st set of Wilsons, c100, then got the D7 forged, after watching this I've took the pings out the bag and put the D7 back in
I tried C300 forged, but couldn't get over the "Power Holes"... If they were called... well, almost anything else I might have been able to shake it off... they were really solid though. Ended up with the Tour V6s instead.
I played the d9 forged last year and loved them! The easiest 5 iron I have ever played! I bought the cb’s this year to work on my ball striking! I still have my d9 forged And will keep them. I hit and loved the dynaforged this year but they were close enough to my d9’s that I went with the cb’s!
I play the predecessor to these - the D9 Forged, in my long irons. They are compact, look like a 'players iron' and feel incredible. But wait until you see and hit the CBs and blades. I play the CBs in the mid irons and the blades in the short irons and these things are insanely good. The feel is as good as, or better than, any other forged iron I have tried - Callaway, TM, Cobra and even Mizuno. And they look SO sweet. Enjoy Al. P.S. An interesting observation is that, given we all know speed = spin, with my significantly slower swing speed (86 mph with a 5i), I get very similar spin numbers - between 4,200 and 4,800, depending on speed and quality of strike. But, like I say above ... wait until you hit the CBs and blades. You are in for a treat 😁
Got some of these on order 3-pw, glad to see others enjoying the ridiculous feel these clubs have to offer, I went to get fitted for cb's, first hit with the dynapower forged and they were straight in the bag
I didn't choose the other brand after fitting. I immediately fell in love with DPF. Was far more better than mizuno jpx923, pro 245, Ping i530, Srizon ZX5 mk2 at least for me. They replaced my 18yo mizuno mx-23s.
You loved the D9 Forged, so expecting big things from these. I bought the superseded D9 irons bcz I’m old & they are the best! So forgiving with great versatility. ✅
Hey Mate, just got these in this week myself, and I agree with you, it's silly how good they are. And how much ball speed you get with such a good looking and feeling club. They are firmly in the starting spot of my bag this year.
Great review Alex love Wilson most underrated brand in golf. I’m looking for new irons so far liked the T350 and i530 but prices very high. As a senior 15/17 handicapper I’m looking for distance, forgiveness, feel, decent looks and value so these might be the one. In most of my fittings I’ve been placed in the game improvement category which is fine and found the i530 very forgiving but these Wilson also look promising.
I would love for you to test the Maltby TS3 and TS4 irons by Golf Works. I play them and love them but id love to see if someone who can hit the ball and has hit tons of different clubs likes them
I’ve had a set of CBs in the bag for a year now and they’re as good or better than anything else I’ve tried. I appreciate how w/s doesn’t pump a bunch of money into marketing and insane endorsement deals. They let their product do the talking for them. Give their wedges a shot too. They’re actually forged (not cast) and look and feel great!
Please please please review the srixon z forged mkii irons. They are such a great blade with a lot of forgiveness and I would love to see what you think about them. You will not regret hitting them. They are stunning, feel like butter, and are more forgiving than a lot of cavity backs I have hit.
30 degree 7 iron is my WS model blade 6 iron. Don't carry a 3 iron in this set but really miss it, big gap between 23 deg 4i and 16 deg driving iron. Maybe need a D9 forged 2 iron....? Wilson are excellent value for money.
I used to have the D7 Forged and honestly really liked them. Performance wise great, but quality control was lacking a bit. The D7 emblems on the back of the clubs started coming off or the paint started fading. I’m sure Wilson addressed this with the newer D9s and DPs. Wilson is a great value brand.
Hi Alex, met you couple of weeks ago in M&S in Banbridge Northern Ireland. Didn’t expect to see you there 😂. Great guy who makes great vids! Keep up the good work 👍
@@xBlade173 Oh I know. But from what I've seen and read the forgiveness of these and the 245 are as good as the game improvement irons. And my misses are thin shots, not much to the heel or toe.
@@kooijbasyou need to test drive the t150s. I took one swing and new they were the win. Every shot has felt amazing in the 5 rounds I've gotten in this winter.
Alex - FYI - Those ("ugly"?) black slots on the bottom of the club are urethane inserts to help promote rebound and forgiveness. Note that Taylormade does something similar now, with a "Damping" slit across the bottom of some of their clubheads that uses a similar material.
@@alexetchesgolf I am not familiar with TM history but I do know that Wilson started using this technique in their C300 line from 2018. BTW - I currently use a C300 hybrid (20 deg) and I also have the 23 deg too. MG
How do these compare to the Mizuno 245s in terms of performance and feel? Obviously the Mizuno look better. But the price of the Wilson’s is quite intriguing.

Wow didn't see that one comming . You hit your head Alex . ???. To be fair I use Wilson iron mine are ultra forgiving D9 . Not your cup of tea I know. I'm still in shock over here
It will be interesting to see what you think of the feel and performance in a few months from now. If I were a gambling man, I'd wager that over time you will conclude that feel is more important than you seem to indicate in the video. In other words, WIlson makes a great product, but you have played Miuras and there is no comparison between the two when it comes to feel. How do you get the feel of a Miura out of your system to the point that you would ever, for an extended period of time, play anything else? Great video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks mate! I’m always talking about feel. Thought these could have been softer. I’ve played Miura - amazing feel but different (some wouldn’t like it) for sure it’s a preference and they are raw (lack other beneficial technologies) good and bad thing. I laughed: “Over time” is 20 years not enough 😂
@@alexetchesgolfI've got an idea: Why don't you be the first person to test and review the new Miura IC-602. I think it is in the same category as the Wilson you chose. Wouldn’t say they are super low spinning at all. If the pro has not seen you hit these then there’s really no comment on it. Like I couldn’t say that they would suit your swing because I don’t know
Those lofts are on par with my I500s and is stronger but not like some of the competitors that I've seen 27.5° Wilson FG100 Blades imo are still the prettiest irons ever made but alas Brenda Bermuda didn't like them and I need more help than they offer
The naming of "Power holes" is emblematic of Wilson Staff's struggles from respect in the marketplace perspective. How is it possible that a real marketing team thought that was a good name for the technology😂
Just so gorgeous these irons are. Wilson probably demonted themselves by cheap box sets then created a reputation for cheap clubs, poor marketing and no huge golf success recently except gary woodland in 2019 of course. Great tradition, great history, great irons.
It's sad Wilson is almost like an "architects" iron. The only people playing them do it to make a point that they're different. They should be considered by everybody but marketing is a b*tch to contend with and the hype goes to the big boys with the player contracts.
