Bought my first pair of black shoes few days ago, black Goodyear welted oxfords. Very formal shoe, hard to combine it with a casual style, but for a good price :D With brogues it is impossible to go wrong.

Jose, I work in menswear every day, and I love your videos! Your quality continues to increase! I think this video is very good and well needed. I have a hard time seeing myself in black and khaki. I think the difference is too harsh. Not a smoothie transition. However, I do own a black shoe-a cap toe Oxford, and I love how it looks with my grey suits! Nothing wrong with black and grey and black and black! As long as the black shoes are stylish like yours....and not like the ugly square toed slip on garbage most places sell and that 80% of American men wear....ugh. I think black is great and I love the video. I just can't do it with khaki my friend. Haha. Awesome video!

I think the all black look would look great with a tan belt, tan shoes and a watch with a tan strap. Although I am partial to brown as well. It might also take away from the 'badboy,' aesthetic, but it would be closer to something that I personally would wear.

I do the same mistake. Buy only brown or burgundy casual dress shoes . You read this articles and lost your own style, stuck in this stupid rules . Jeans are recognised universally as the casual essential in any wardrobe, the addition of some black shoes can instantly elevate their sophistication. But in my opinion black work with more casual shoes like doublemonks or loafers. Fashion is change, now you can wear tennis shoes with suit or dress shoe wit jeans. So breaking some rules in colour when it works it's not a bud idea.

I don't think #menswear circles avoid black shoes just because they are "formal" but because they are everywhere - your dad and his engineer friends all wear rubber-sole black shoes, and most department store shoe sections are full of black shoes. Brown shoes are in the minority (outside our menswear minority) - it's just that because of this imbalance, everyone "in the know" has adopted the brown shoe as a sign of knowing your shit, giving the black shoe some undeserved bad rap in the process.
I agree. Before I started watching this channel I didn't realize that black shoes were overlooked by fashion, since they seem to be such a generic go-to dress shoe. That said, there are definitely times when a black shoe can look too formal.
The thing that I want to figure out is what options there are in non-black shoes for gray trousers. I've always thought that wearing gray and brown together was a fashion faux pas, but would be willing to revise that rule if I knew how to pull it off.
