About the mold; it's not because they used glycerin. It's because they did not use a preservative. In regards to makeup, soap making etc. a preservative is antimicrobial in nature. Preservative Cap 5 is an antimicrobial. This prevents mold from growing in your products. Any time you have a product that may come in contact with liquid (soaps, body or lip scrubs, body wash, or mist sprays similar to Mac Fix Plus) you always want to add a makeup grade preservative to prevent mold and other bad bacteria from growing on your product. Regardless of weather or not you're making it for yourself or as a gift (vitamin E oil or any type of vitamin E variant should not be used in place of a cosmetic grade preservative.)
@@ericanewsom3320 it still isn't a preservative so cosmetics will still grow mould and breed bacteria and its only used on wounds because it keeps them moist for it to not breed bacteria and grow mould it needs a preservative such as phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin glycerin alone won't do a thing to preserve or extend the formula
I have always loved makeup and was always curious about making my own shadows and pressed pigments / glitters and you have explained everything so good and detailed without overwhelming me. Thank you !
Thank you for your recommendation ....theres soooooo much choice..good prices and so far everything I was looking for from the same place. I love your breakdown on everything as well x
Oh my goodness, my mouth was hanging open the whole time I watched this. I had no idea how eyeshadows were made. You did an excellent job explaining everything to us. You are so knowledgeable, and talented Trish!! I am very impressed, and the colors were beautiful. You are a scientist, girl. Many blessings, peace, and much joy...MaryEllen
i have been looking through tons of videos and they were not helpful, i found yours and it was completely helpful and detailed you do a much better job at making the eyeshadows as well as explaining the process
Great video! Nice to have someone my age showing how this is done. I do Eyelash Extensions and I am thinking on doing my own line of make up for my clients. Thanks again!
This is by far the BEST video out there for making mineral eyeshadows! My order from TKB came in today. I'm a newbie at this so I kinda wish I'd gotten the kit cause they don't have recipes for any of the colors I ordered, LOL. I ordered 18 samples of micas and told them to choose for me. This video has saved me!
I've been looking for videos like this, but I have not seen one that gives as much details as much as you do. I am very thankful that you have made this video! You have a new subscriber here!
Hi Trish! I'm so impressed. That looks like a lot of fun. If you could get the formulas down to how you like them, there really wouldn't be a need to ever buy a palette. You could just make your own. ; ) They are so pretty. That flame is gorgeous. This was so interesting to watch. I do enjoy crafting (typically polymer clay/resin/miniatures), so I'm sure that I'd enjoy doing this. Thank you for sharing. Have a blessed tomorrow, my friend! Love! Dorothy xoxo
Trish, this is by far the most informative video regarding cosmetic making. I have search the you tube land high and low for a video that explains what products are ideal for beginners. While i have found videos that show the process of making eye shadows. Some made it seem that alcohol and mica were the only ingredients you needed while others made it seem as if you need a huge list of products with big scientific names to get the job done. I became confused, as someone who genuinely want to make eye shadows for myself, not knowing how to start or what products i should purchase first had me a bit discourage with the idea. Until i came across this video not only did you break everything down you even demonstrated how you have used each item and the out come. Which is exactly what beginner like myself was searching for !
ive watched tons of these tkb videos tonight and you were the best!! u made sense and said what i needed to knoiw and not what i didnt perfectly...thank u so much
Hi Trish! I'm so incredibly thrilled to get to try this. I'll have to wait for a few months before I can purchase the supplies but this would be so fun for me. I have an extensive medical background and worked in microbiology as well as biotechnology labs so I love sterile techniques and mixing reagents! I get to finally play mad scientist again and I can already feel the excitement. Having to wait will kill me but God has been teaching me patience this entire year so I'm getting a bit better at it! Thank you for all the time and expertise you put into this virtual class. I can imagine a group of ladies all gathered around you and having so much fun! I wish I could be right there with you. I'm thankful that I can have you here on my computer any time I need some Trish time! xoxo Eluzabeth
Hey Trish.......wow, this is so amazing, I had no idea how to make an eye shadow. Geeee...when you have all the proper tools and products it's not hard to make it at all. Thanks so much for sharing girl, wishing you an awesome day XO
Wow!! Girl, you are so talented....I have never seen eye shadow being made! Very interesting....I need to look at the ingredients in my eye shadows, I did not some could be made with coconut oil, I recently found that I am allergic to coconut...ugggh! Those are beautiful colors!!!!!
Trish, can u please tell me if tkb has a book on how to make these eyeshadows? like for instants lets say i don't want to make a matte eyeshadow and i just want to use a straight up mica with a reflect or a irridescent color to add and i want it to be a silky eyeshadow what base would i use to make my eyeshadow silky? i am new to this &i am making my own eyeshadows cause i am sick of drugstore eyeshadows &let down on high end eyeshadows!!! GOD BLESS
I’m venturing into making my own eyeshadows and I’m in the “investigating” phase of how to formulate things before I purchase my supplies. For the liquid binder that tkb is selling, have you tried to use a base substitution of castor oil + dimethicone instead? Thanks.
Thank you for such an informative video! I've seen so many tutorial vids but yours is so in-depth now I feel more inspired to go out and and get started. Thank you! One question though; At what step would you add in coconut oil or jojoba oil?
Trish this was so informative on how to make your own shadows, i have heard and even seen others mentioned they do this and even of course some sell them on Etsy or something. I loved hearing how you did yours, and what you felt is better to use in mixing and molding the shadows :) Thanks so much for sharing i really enjoyed this, love and blessings to you and have a great day. xoxox
I have a question!! you show you add the matte texture base to your colors. Do you just add it to matte shades your pressing?? the color you added it to looked shimmery so i was really confused. Also if i add that to a shimmer will it dull it down? Thank you so much!!
Hello! First of all, thank you for the wonderful video.. I am so excited to start pressing my own! Second, I am wondering what your recipe is for the base powder. I have all of the ingredients for it, but have no idea what the quantities of each should be. Thanks again, Trish!
I watched a lot of different videos and some were pretty good, I found yours to be the most organized and helpful though. 90% of the other videos I watch they use only alcohol base to press and I just don't feel that is safe. I love how you explain the use of the binder, the preservative, and the my base mixing powder. A lot of the videos they only use the mica and alcohol. This video is the best one I would love to see more on how you made your matte shadows and also would like to know if you had any cracking or not?
I can never get mine to press out that smooth, and the liquid never seems to dry out. I gave up and was just making loose pigments, but I think I'll try again and follow your instructions a little closer. Thank You!
When did you use the coconut oil and how many drops? You mentioned it when stating supplies, however did not use it in the video. I am trying to learn how to press Matte Shadows, btw.
This was so helpful & I thank you so much. I bought some supplies last year so I have to check to see what I have. I have loads of Bare Minerals that I'm interested in pressing. Would I still do everything the same? I also have loose minerals from other companies that i also want to press. I don't know why I ever bought so much. I think I could make pallets for hundreds of ladies. I hope this works since I can't stand loose minerals. I don't know when l'll get to pressing but I will save this video for the future. Thanks for this video, it's really helpful. ❤️
I've made a really good matte glitter black shadow with black oxide and some glitter, and mixed them with a store bought ahs, and it turned out good. but I'd like to be able tomake my own make up completely.
I'm glad I found this, it makes the pigments and glitter so much easier to work with. ...I've spent the last six months playing with my Flash pallet dupe coz I couldn't afford the OCC lip tar or the MUFE flash pallet and I have caught the bug...what do you think is best for making a liquid lipstick. ...Inglot Duraline springs to mind but I have to be sure whatever it is doesn't test on animals etc. I have to watch this video again as the bloody cats are wanting fed or something. ..whoever thought cats were independent should spend 24 hours at mine omg!
hi, im from the uk and shipping from tkb is very expensive so i have had to find alternative places to buy my mica powder from, however i cant get my hands on the matte textured mica powder to make my eyeshadows matte, is there any alternative things you can recommend or other suggestions of places i could buy it from? thanks!
Neesh Hey, I'm from France and we have a website called "aroma zone" it's not the best website I prefer tkb but they sell a powder base, you can make eyeshadows, and they have some pigments, but not a lot !
Adela Elezovic thanks for that! ive been doing a bit of research and found the ingredients u need for the matte texture base, however it jus says mica but doesnt say what type. ive googled it and there are three main types but dont know which to use! do you know at all?
Could you make a tutorial on matte shadows? I found your video on pressing powers the most helpful but I haven't found any videos on making matte, if you could that would be very helpful, thank you :)
hi Trish great video learnt alot I was wondering if you could do a video on duo chrome eyeshadow including the base and shift technique and a video for how to make highlighters at home...I would be very great full. looking forward to hearing from you.😊
I'm watching your video and you keep say different names for the binders and I'm not sure exactly what you are using . Can you plz put the items list up? Thank you

what do you mean ? im wanting to start mine own to what do u suggest?
very well said!!!
Part of the problem is glycerin seeing as glycerin literally attracts moisture thats why its used to hydrate skin
@@AaronW-ww4ds glycerin actually has antimicrobial properties and is approved by the FDA to treat wounds!

I'd love to see how you make your mattes!!!

I forgot to ask if I can use vitamin E in place of the cap 5 preservitive. I am not sure if it'd be enough for this type of thing or not.

Trish, how many of one shade do you process at one time ?
Also, why is it necessary to use the additional white matte mixing powder? Why aren't pure pigments pressed without that powder?
I think it's because its basically a dye; it needs to be "diluted" before it's used in your eyelids to prevent them from being that colour for a while
Cox u wont be able to blend on ur eye as nicely.
If you use them without a base, you could strain your skin
love this
