    I wondered why all of my jars cracked. I had no idea that the binder caused it. This is also SO good to know about the mattes already having binder. Hey,
    hope you can give me some advice, before pressing mine?
    1) I need to repress a Menagerie single (shimmer) that crumbled a number of times (let's not even go there; I'm boycotting Menagerie after their cruel handling of the issue). Which of the 2 liquids would you use, and approx how much? Like, I shouldn't have to liquify it all that much as you do w/ loose pigments, right? But perhaps mix what I have together (it's from 2 different pans), add a cpl drops of whatever, make a paste & press ...?
    2) Both for issues of the above kind, but also for SI and other loose pigments (mine are from NM, in addition to SI, and ALL shimmer), I would like "factory looking" hatch marks, i.e. using a tamper tool & co. At what stage do I do that, and how long does it take to get there, time wise? Like, is it 5 mins or 12 hrs ... I would think the right timing matters, no?
    Any help would be hugely appreciated!

    put the pan on a magnetic surface to avoid tipping/spilling

    • @MartesMakeup
      @MartesMakeup  3 роки тому +3

      That's a good idea, but then I'll dirty up the empty magnetic palette with everything i spill from transferring the pigment from the jar to the pan, so I rather prefer spilling on paper that I can throw away :D

    I wish I had this guide months & months ago, way back when I was first depotting my palettes, was breaking them left & right and trying to repress everything. I'd heard that the matte Tammy Tanuka & MAC loose pigments have binder already in them. I don't usually read the ingredients list. Do I look for that Isopropyl Myristate ingredient? I bought the TKB pressing medium last summer during my frenzy. Looking at its ingredients, not only does it have the Isopropyl Myristate but also Dimethicone & Bis-Vinyl Dimethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer, which may be what's causing the other issues folks had mentioned. 🤷‍♀️

    • @MartesMakeup
      @MartesMakeup  3 роки тому +3

      Your best bet to find out if they have binder, is to simply google the ingredients of the pigments! That's how I found out about the binder in the mattes :D Binders do not only make the pigments press more easily, but it helps them adhere to the skin too, so it makes sense that it's in loose pigments too :D But there are so many types of binders and they might have slightly different uses! I think maybe those ingredients may cause the problems indeed, but as I understood it, it was only multichromes or pigments with very small particles they struggled with.. I'm gonna stick to my simple "recipe" haha :D

      I dont remember if I press repanned shimmers after they've dried, haha! But I definitely don't struggle with my Tammy Tanuka pigments, and I almost found some of them harder to use when I press with the tamper tool, because they get too compact, if that makes sense!

    • @midnightdreamer00
      @midnightdreamer00 3 роки тому +3

      @@MartesMakeup That does make sense, cos I feel like I also have a harder time with some formulas after I've repressed them but tbh I always blame the isopropyl alcohol (even though it evaporates) haha. Maybe I'll try to experiment with a cheaper pigment first and see what happens :p Thank youuuu
      Ooh also, I've had some good luck using the Google Lens app to decipher my Tammy Tanuka shadows. @@Squirrely1 it often really depends on the size of the pigment! I typically just order 1ml and some of those fill the pan, so I can see how some of the 2ml ones might be way too much 🙈

    I tried pressing my multichrome pigments ..added alcohol... And then when they dried, they went back to be a powder 😭

    • @MartesMakeup
      @MartesMakeup  Рік тому +1

      The alcohol is only used to mix in the binder with the pigment evenly! All alcohol evaporates, that's why it's always recommended to use a super high percentage so that everything evaporates and there's no moisture (water) left in the eyeshadow. So you must have a binder to press them. That's what keeps the eyeshadow particles pressed together 🧡 Isopropyl myristate that I use in this video has worked great for me!

      @@MartesMakeup oh dear, would you mind telling me what's in the binder? We don't have that here in Brazil 😭 I'd probably have to mix something similar

    • @MartesMakeup
      @MartesMakeup  Рік тому +1

      @Yasmin Hendricksa it's just what it is, just like alcohol is alcohol, isopropyl myristate is isopropyl myristate, a substance! If you want to try something else, you just have to Google binders for eyeshadow and test them. If I'm not mistaken, I think some people use fractionated coconut oil. 🤔 I got my Isopropyl myristate from ebay, I think they shop worldwide? If I remember correctly, it's linked in my description box! I hope you figure it out 🧡

    Hey new subscriber. I follow you on Instagram. I have a channel too that'd I'd love for you to check out. I've never thought to press my loose pigments. I'm not a fan of the loose shadows so maybe I'll give this a try so I actually use them. Thanks for the info
