  • Crossing the border from USA into Canada on foot across Rainbow Bridge.
    To get to Canada from the USA, cross Rainbow Bridge from Niagara Falls, New York USA into Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada. To leave the United States of America, walk through a self locking metal turnstile gate without needing to show any id at this point, half way across the Rainbow Bridge there is a bronze plaque on the bridge fence indicating the United States / Canada International Boundary Line, this area is also notated with the Canadian flag flying next to the USA flag. To enter Canada after crossing the International Boundary Line you must show your passport to customs agents before entering the country of Canada, there is no fee for this process but when you want to cross the same bridge back into the USA there is a .50 cent fee.
    Walking across Rainbow Bridge takes under10 minutes, the time to show your passport to the agent at the Canadian border and the agents at the USA when returning to The United States of America cannot be determined as the time varies based on how many border agents or people trying to enter the country at any given time.
    There are excellent views of Niagara Falls from both the USA and Canada, but they are both very different, the view of the falls from Canada shows a more natural less built up look, where as the view of Niagara Falls from the USA shows more of a city built up look.

    Seven years ago, I rode my motorcycle around the perimeter of the USA. I approached Niagara Falls from the east side, stopping every mile or two and seeing the mist rising better with every stop. I reasoned I could view the falls much better from the bridge, so on a whim and without farther ado, headed across the bridge, not realizing it was an International bridge and I was leaving the USA in so doing. I did not have my passport with me and, at the Canadian border, I was asked some questions, like if I was camping or motelling? I had motelled it all the way and said so. I was let in without farther ado and spent a couple of hours walking around, viewing the fantastic scenery and having lunch. When I recrossed the bridge, the guy at the 'gate' asked for ID and my passport. I told him I didn't have a passport.....he calmly reached over my shoulder, extracted the key from my ignition, asked for what ID I did have and started typing on his computer. He was able to confirm my identity, but told me if he hadn't, I'd have been there a while....Valuable life's lesson, and, at the time, I was 73.

      From Niagara Falls US and when I was growing up there in the early 60's New York's drinking age was eighteen while Ontario's was (I believe) twenty at the same time. Prospect Street on the American side was the first street off the bridge and was just a row of cheap bars and all the Canadian kids use to come pouring across from as far away as Toronto and beyond. Even when I came home from leave from the Navy and the Air Force before that, always had a good time there.

    It apears that the crossing you used is one that is less known. However if it is the one I think, I remember driving into the U.S. vis this route when the Raimbow bridge was a 3 hour wait and overloaded. This one entered the U.S. underground, and fortunately the U.S. customs officer was able to give me dorections from there to the Robert Moses Parkway to go on eventually to Erie PA.

      The USA is full of obese, rude, arrogant, low IQ'd, gun toting, religious people, and Mexicans. There are seemly more Mexicans in America then there are Americans. Canada has nice friendly people, good dairy, free healthcare, gay marriage, no guns, lots of space, nice cities, and less illegal aliens. Canada is way better than the USA.

English is derived from England. In case some Americans thought they came up with it. Also, the US is full of cities and that is why it has a ridiculous amount of pollution and doesn't protect many natural habitat. So congrats if you thing ruining the earth makes you more civilized.

Also I was talking about this specific border Canada/New York Ny is an anti gun state so there is a very little chance smuggling will happen take it from me. I live in the state you can't tell me that smuggling goes on here. When you cross the middle of the bridge you are physically in Canada but not "officially" as you stated. You are not officially in a country before you pass the check point.

      Legally in Canada they are. Break a law and go to Canadian prison. So officially they are in Canada the moment they step on.

    • @briantravelman
      @briantravelman 4 роки тому +2

      Don't matter. A border is a border. Once you've passed that light post, you can fill in Canada on your travel map. What about in Europe where there are no border checkpoints, at least there weren't before Corona. So if I cross from Poland to the Czech Republic, have I not been to the Czech Republic, because there is no checkpoint? What about with Mexico? No one checks you when you're crossing into Mexico. So have I not been to Mexico? NO! The checkpoint means nothing. Once you set foot inside a country's borders, you've been to that country, doesn't matter if you've entered legally or not.

    • @BangFarang1
      @BangFarang1 4 роки тому

      @@briantravelman For immigration laws, you haven't broken any law by staying on the Canadian part of the bridge without a visa, they don't consider that you entered illegally before you pass the checkpoint. The bridge is considered like the transit areas of the airports.
      As for the European Union, the Schengen area is considered as "one single country", so crossing from Poland to Czech rep. is like crossing from New York to New Jersey.
      Side note: If there was a shop on that bridge, it would have been duty free, proof that the Canadian/US customs jurisdictions are not applied on the bridge. There are many places where duty free shops are located between the respective countries checkpoints.
