*REST OF THE VIDEO SCRIPT* Flynn and Belle are next. They are 2 different entries but were both from the same wave so yes. Flynn is first and just shows what a touch of paint can do. For comparison, here is the final model and here is the prototype. You may notice an absolute ton of extra detailing on the prototype but in fact it is really just all of the unpainted details on the final model but colored in! He is quite clearly hand painted and the water shooter things on him appear to be more detached than in the final one. The same thing about paint is also valid with the water car. Now onto Belle. Once again here is the finalized model and here is that prototype. The prototype Belle features a longer Belle with realistic wheels, painted details such as lining, no battery switch, and a realistic yellow truck. We were robbed with this, what more can I say. For both of these, It is an easy win for the prototypes, the final ones don’t hold a candle to these. Layer 6 Treasure Thomas is next. The original model is already unique, featuring a Gold doubloons-covered Thomas with a Light Brown Treasure Truck and a Blue Treasure Chest Well Wagon. The prototype has Thomas without the treasure details and a Green Treasure Truck. Which is the better model though? Well we could have just had a stock standard non gimmicky thomas which would have been kinda nice but also the green treasure truck looks incredibly off. The final model wins this one. Turbo Thomas. Well this one is interesting. We are once again returning to the questionable side of trackmaster. The turbo thomas itself was of course part of the range of engines that would go fast. When the first images of the prototype were revealed, it was vastly different to its final model. With changes such as the wheels not being in the TM2 format, aka. No spikes. Also his middle wheel either doesn’t exist or isn’t painted in. The better one is probably the final one because detail is kinda cool. Plarail Promo is referring to an advertisement from plarail that featured their wide range of prototypes. These included Donald with a weird face, tiny pupils and black siderods. For Duck over here, he has a very happy face with a painted mouth and for diesel…well you can see for yourselves the horror of this model with that grin and eyes that point to the right. Lastly we have a BoCo that is also looking weird. Amongst these, there are also prototypes for the steam team, the road vehicles and oliver to name a few more. These are less notable though. The final models win for these, help me. (donald) We are advancing to the penultimate layer now Avalanche escape is a very interesting item as it was one of the first TM2 sets ever made and very conveniently there is a video that shows the process of making this set. I’ll let Dan Muldoon explain the thought process and the prototype images. So we can see that the action canyon set served as inspiration for this and also there is some multicolored track. An early version of this set seemed to feature the classic boulder chasing engine play feature and the bridge supports are based off the old bridge which falls in a BWBA episode. The best one appears to be the action canyon prototype one because that would have been insane to see. Talking Thomas is not referring to the 2009, 2010, 2013, 2018, 2021 or that. But instead to the 2014 one that came with a brown truck (slowed down cool) The TM2 Talking Thomas features no cab windows, painted buffers, and a red van instead of a brown truck. This isn’t even mentioning the shape that is totally different and looks very accurate. The wheels are also in the original style and not very revolutionary. He got another prototype that featured a brown truck, unpainted buffers, painted cab windows and that awesome shape. These of course were canned and replaced with the stock standard Thomas. The prototype wins this by a long stretch, its an absolute crime that we missed out on these. Boxes. So of course any trackmaster item needs to get packaging. These aren’t just decided on in one take and some refining. Here are some of my favorites: the hard at work at brendHam docks pack for instance features this exact thing. The title is placed differently and salty comes with a gray flatbed and orange box rather than the final orange flatbed and gray box. BUT in the refined brendam docks set, the original rolling stock returned. The set really has a fascinating story and I recommend you check it out here. Another example is the Captain and Salty’s Sea Rescue set that probably had the most drastic change, that being literally all the contents displayed, with the final version going for a more simple look with just Captain and Salty. There is also the Zip, Zoom and logging adventure set that was originally supposed to be called the Zip N’ zoom adventure and the box was going to look very different. I prefer the final one. The prototype/mockup one is just too much. Lastly we have the scrapyard escape set that had a working title of the cable bridge set. Once again, this is very preliminary and doesn’t hold a candle to the last one's artwork. Starting layer 8, we have Alfie! We are back to talking about the boxy, Canadian exclusive mess of an excavator. I am actually not talking about the lime green prototype that was advertised on the HiT website but the paint proof prototype. So according to Muddy Poppins, the owner of this piece, It was a prototype to show what the colors should look like and how he would look in box. As this wasn’t the final stage, there are some differences. To start, he has no mud caps, no painted wheels, a different number, half of him, including his face has been sprayed with black paint, he is in Elizabeth's packaging and he features a NEW sticker instead of the English and French NEW/NOUVEAU sticker. This model is an absolute mess but is still pretty cool. Check out Muddy Poppins’ video on it.
7:47 I think the reason he’s looking up it might be to emphasize the lamp, since the only thing that was really sad about him in the show was that he had a magic lamp (specifically the headlamp above his smokebox).
You are not wrong my boy, they uses some concept arts, but thats for the design, parts count and the colors, the prototypes are for paint test, mold test and plastic test.
All the prototypes in this video were made in Trackmaster because they needed to find the body or need to find a right face for the entire engine final product but it was very hard to find it so there will be lots of lots of prototype scattered around😊

I would love to see this video finished
I would have just made a part 2 at that point
I like how you first talked about the prototypes and then compared them to their final releases, made for an interesting video to watch.
Proteus is looking up at his magic lamp

I do love myself some prototypes
I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure toy company’s use concept art to make toys
You are not wrong my boy, they uses some concept arts, but thats for the design, parts count and the colors, the prototypes are for paint test, mold test and plastic test.

The cancelled 2014 tm2 Gordon, Henry, and Edward are definitely going to have to be covered in a future video 😁
U should make a second part to the video with the rest of the script lol
Out of all of them the Bash and Dash prototypes are the most accurate. Pity they weren't the final ones.
Man it's hard to visualize everything your saying in the script but I tried. Maybe an update video in the future?
