Thanks to The Unlucky Tug's videos for teaching me and for clips used in this video.
And a MASSIVE thanks to Adam from Thomas Theorist for babysitting me through this and teaching me how not to be stupid. Thanks Adam!
Heey, gonna just answer some FAQ's and comments.
"Why can't you just buy 'x' thing for 'x' amount of money?"
Like I said in the video, I live in Australia and things can be expensive and hard to find. My options are kinda low.
"Use lubricant to fix the American engine"
I will have to try this at some point but something is telling me that the quality of the engine is just bad in general. This engine was supposed to be "new". It wasn't used.
"Replace Thomas' motor, unscrew him, lube him"
Yeah, I'm not skilled enough right now to be replacing motors, plus they cost too much. I don't think lube is gonna help Thomad because it isn't that he wont run smooth, he's just old and needs warming up before going.
"Turn Alfie into Lady"
No
"Smokey Joe is supposed to look like that"
Yeah, so? Doesn't mean it doesn't look bad?
If any more queries come up I'll try to put them here
I subscribed to you❤❤❤❤❤
GIVE THE DOWT ENGINES LIKE TAKE ALONG FACES1!1!1!1 so they are more realistic to real dowt engines
Is your thumb doing ok?
(I genuinely mean this by the way)
@@TOGWPOATNAA yeah it was just a cut
it wasn't that deep or anything
@@TTTE_Guyi got model trains if you want some
3:05 Why hello pokemon fan-
Now this is why I prefer Hornby. It looks realistic and it mostly runs great.
I don’t really like Hornby Thomas. But if I were Hornby, I’d just strap a Jinty chassis on it.
Agreed
“Realistic”
Honestly I just use the Bachmann track because I don’t want my engines to get fluffy on the carpet.
@@MSMFurcorn22 Yeah, I use Bachmann track too. It’s just easier to work with.
Bachmann still producing model Thomas stuff is cool.
I also bought Jeremy Jet for $70, best money spent ever.
Yeah, because of the price of model trains, I don’t think I’ll ever get one and save my money for cheaper things
OH HELLO!-
Agree.
This is why knowing how to work on a model train will help you save money.
Pro Tip: When using red paint pens, try using dark red, since the normal red looks more pink than red.
For something that just uses paint pens, you did a pretty good job!
Dang you’ve been through a lot in a very short time. I’d love to see more of this layout when you’ve done some more work on it!
TTTE Guy as Sheldon: IM A HO TRANIAC
3:32 excuse me?
I think That this looks great! Accidents happen now and again, but it’ll be fine. You could get some grass for the ground, and maybe work on getting some coaches. But this will be fine!
To think this was all because of Ernie...
HO American stuff is usually loud af a lot, also the coal in the hopper is supposed to come out for if you want to leave it empty
I got a Bachman Thomas and he decided to pull a shed 17 and his fave comes off
Tip: when buying models that are from different country settings, check the couplings to see if you can use them
I think I might know what the secret engine package is going to be: a new Thomas
Yeah I feel you, I just started model training too. It’s hard but I’m trying. Advice though, don’t be so ambitious I just bought a starter set at a yard sale and some more track.
A tip would be commissioning a custom gearbox with a coreless motor, its cheaper than constantly replacing thomas, I put one in mine and my tuomas will run flawless for a good while now
Also commisions would be easier than actually modding him yourself, plus you could even end up with cool custom faces
“Model trains are expensive!!!!!” mfs when I roll up with an army of models that cost me less than a Bachmann Thomas with faulty pickups:
Open your Thomas and check if his gears are lacking bachmann lube. If there’s a lack of “sticky orange stuff,” buy some lube for him and use one of those bachmann tutorials to learn how to apply it correctly
I recomend you the reviews of Sam's trains channel, where he cover various aspects of a model such the detail, performans, prize, puling power etc. And also do other stuff like news, april fools vids, etc.
For some reason this made me get into bachmann
Every live i feel like no one can see my live chats, maybe ive been accidently blocked? Idk
I’m not sure about Australia but I like mainline railway rolling stock cheap and quality! Also you might want to add something under the track. The fluff from your carpet can mess with the track and engines.
Here in South Africa that Flying Scotsman set cost 3,000 and something Rand
5:39 TTTE Guy I did a similar thing where I cut one of my fingers, and depending on how bad it was it could take a few weeks.
7:52 “AHH-“
Smokey Joe’s not his actual name it’s actually Barry
Right now I’m making the load from the Thomas and troublesome truck pack to coal
I think your getting a MR OLIVER and TODD
Congrats to getting into model trains (unlike me who isn’t about to spend $89) just hope your bank doesn’t contact you about the charges
3:41 it's based on real graffiti that was on an engine of that class
Percy actually looks pretty accurate to the RWS!
Although my model train collection is N Gauge from Japan. The price is always a problem
I can't believe I was in a collab with TTTE Guy (6:08)

I had the exact same American set and the engine from it is the worst one I’ve ever owned. I repainted it and made it look like a scrap engine for set dressing lol

Moral: Never try Bachmann without experience.
i wouldnt say that's the moral
you shpuld research and learn about it a little bit before buying, but i think you have to have it to get more experience and learn what not to do
@@TTTE_Guy My moral: don't but a cheap used set.

So as a bit of wisdom from someone who has been model railroading for quite some time and who's dealt with hundreds of used engines.
I would recommend, if you're going to continue buying used engines, is to start learning how to service them. These are miniature machines after all and in order to run at their best they need to be properly maintained. The reason why your American 0-6-0 doesn't run very well and is noisy and why the engines you went to test didn't run is probably because the old lubricants in them have hardened or dried up increasing the load on the motor exponentially more. The electrical pick ups on them were probably also quite dirty not helping matters. I'd recommend OOBill's channel to start seeing the ins and outs of servicing models and what you should be looking out for.
The best comment on the whole video.
Me when my Bachmann layout doesn’t work out: “FUCKmann”

My advice for looking for model trains is to find local hobby shops or dedicated train stores (either online or in person), as well as looking for train shows in your area. I hardly ever buy anything new because of how expensive trains are these days. Also ALWAYS read the description of an item online and look at it very closely before buying, and ALWAYS ask a seller if the engine works before buying it. Hope that helps!
there are no model hobby shops near me
all online ones are way too expensive
i always read the description of listings
Ah dang, sorry my advice didn’t help. Still, best of luck all the same!
That clip of Elliot Gough made me insta-like
omg, hi eric!
Bachmann Thomas's face always induced nightmares...
TRAINIAC!
the bachmann obsession u r in it to
The Australia argument is kinda situational tbh, if your living in a major city, or even a surrounding city it’s not too hard to find good stuff for a good price, even preowned, just depends on how you go about looking for things, and how much you’re willing to pay for shipping 😅.
Marketplace or eBay can be a great source, but often requires more consideration than a place like Amazon, if you go about it right, you’ll end up with some great stuff, I often buy preowned from marketplace, no inspection, and it will often be fine.
I know it hurts the wallet, but try not to go too cheap if you can, it’s often worth the extra shekels if you have em.
Always feel free to ask the seller questions on a preowned item if you’re looking to know how it’s been used.
Check out local model train shows if you can, there are usually great pre owned stalls there, most of it is tested as well so it should work.🤷♂️
Happy train hunting!
Mate, watch Sam's Trains or That Model Railway Guy for more Model Railway knowledge.

I actually had 2 Bachmann train sets one that I got from Christmas of 2019 it was a BNSF Super cheif who has since became main UA-cam star and the second one it was a Bachmann n scale csx and I had some Kato n scale starter pack cars and I had to fit the cars with the set and they fit perfectly kinda
Can u add a face on your custom Percy?
hey, ttte guy, you can take the body off without screws i believe, it's held on with clips, and it's a separate piece than the running board
Oh
You need to service him

As a modeler myself, I can personally confirm, getting into it is definitely confusing……. And frustrating. Hell I’ve been using model trains since 2016 and it’s still frustrating. This video was awesome dude, can’t wait to see where you go with this hobby next.
looking at second hand models is a good idea
2:36 I feel your pain bro
Hi TTTE Guy! I’m From The US, Bachmann Model Trains, Especially Thomas and Friends, Are Expensive! So Be Careful With Them, Cause If You Drop It, It Will Most Likely Break.
Bachmann has quite a horrendous track record for the quality control when it comes to their HO/OO stuff. And even if their product really is good, it's really, really stupidly expensive. Hornby is also kinda like this, mostly the models are just expensive.
I want to start a model railway soon, but I don’t have the space all I have right now is a really small table. I can only put a circle or track a Hornby Thomas and a couple American trains.
Justice for Smokey Joe!
Also welcome to the permanent mark club
the american 0-6-0 that you got is making those sounds (probably) because of cracked gears, and the reason thomas ran bad with the track he came with is because it was probably dirty.
Not just australia has crappy online shopping also the philippines just try looking for one bachmann model thats working and not 12000 php
I actually own a few Bachmann trains myself, have you tried lubricating your Bachmann Thomas to try and get it to run better?
Bachmann is expensive
Just for a small model train 😂😂😂
I have the Hornby Thomas models. They're pretty good, except Edward
So im not the only one that uses posca pens to paint?
You can sale your other useless toys for a profit.
Bachmann Thomas models are just the worst. Glorified toys. They break so easily and their motors are trash.
