Thanks! That was really useful. I'm a home sewist attempting a top for a Christmas doo without a pattern, rashly using a sparkly/glitter jersey/lycra fabric and adding a velvet roll collar. I have this book and couldn't believe you were talking through the very thing I want to do. My snag is the main body fabric is a bit scratchy so I'm adding the double sided velvet collar to be gentler against the skin (and therefore it's a totally separate entity to sew onto the main fabric, so where you have a satin 'facing' which is flipped out, mine would also have that satin on the side which is folded over) Might end up being too complicated but fun trying.
