I was dealing with a guy about 15 years ago. Most people would characterize him as a “hood 🥷🏾 “…very much in the streets etc. One time he and I were arguing about the fact that I only hit him up when I want something. He said something very simple that I’ve never forgotten. He said, “You think niggas ain’t got feelings.” I felt so small after that…me with my degrees, good job, what I thought was emotional intelligence etc., was treating this other human being not even like his emotions didn’t matter, but like he didn’t have them at all. I was ashamed of myself. I’m not perfect now, but I have tried to be more intentional about considering men’s emotions.

Look, I'm a gay black man and this episode was DEEPLY cathartic for me. I'm halfway through Bell Hooks book "The Will To Change" and all of this vital information can be applicable to us gay/bi men as well. Thanks to Dr. Odi for this and I also played the clip from Instagram on my channel (my latest reading and discussion from "The Will To Change"). This is powerful and I am sharing it with the black men & family in my life. Thanks, I am now subscribed!

This really helped me although this was geared mostly towards the gentlemen. It allowed for a deeper introspection on my end for how I can better raise my young men, and operate more effectively as a wife! Thank you!

43:49 I gotta disagree solely based on experience, my algorithm shows that black women value emotionally intelligent and emotionally expressive men. My real life says something completely different. There isn't a black woman in my life who has NOT operated in emotionally abusive ways towards me and/or shamed me for my willingness to be emotionally vulnerable. The algorithm gives me hope for a life that has been harsh in this area.

Ouf, that's a good comment. I mostly see the types of men I want online but never in real life so I completely understand you. And yes, I also know some BW who dont know the value of an emotionally vulnerable man. I hope you find a woman who will be able to appreciate you.

I’ve been saying that the logical way of thinking is a huge part of social engineering and global colonization for years but men tend not to agree. As humans, we both feel and think differently. But we do it equally nonetheless. Thank you brotha for explaining this so eloquently. Salute to you both.

I recently reconnected with my ex-bf from 30 yrs ago. We were teenagers. I noticed that he was hurt emotionally and didn't have the emotional intelligence that a 57 yrs old man should have. I offered a safe space for him to release and spoke to him about therapy, instead of being toxic and releasing his feelings in weed, alcohol, porn, and cigarettes. I shared Jason Wilson's books with him and he called him a p**** and said only a p**** would go to therapy! He was comfortable with being toxic. I saw that he was ready to hurt, not ready to love and left him alone.
Thanks, Dr. Odi. I don't have a degree but I've studied human behavior, sociology, and psychology and have spoken to the young and older men in my life about emotional intelligence and safety, not being misogynistic, their hypocrisy, and just being kind to themselves and others. It's sad because we as black people are behind in generational wealth. Our brokenness is creating broken homes and we'd rather be baby mommas and baby daddies than husbands and wives. We really need to WAKE UP for the future of our children!!!
