    In this video I recommend Toneboosters EQ 4 as the best Fabfilter Pro Q 3 alternative. This EQ is, in my opinion. the best value you can get in an EQ.

    Nice review of a great eq! ToneBoosters have ridiculous, world class quality to their plugins, and the eq is no exception. Also the gui ends up often being the best. Some of their plugins have become my "go to", they're that good.

    Never used eq form them (I have it) but tape emulation is one of the best on the market. I use it all the time. I tested it against all major players (Softube, etc) and I use Toneboosters. Best Tape emulation in my opinion, many useful parameters. I'll try EQ next. Thx!

    It's true the plugin does not saves the options, but if someone needs to save some recallable preset for a new project, DAWs like Cubase or Reaper allows you to save plugin presets in some menu bar within the plugin. It allows you to change any setting, and save it. Or just save a track preset with the plugin changes to a further use.

    One thing I notice in this video is that the "traditional" compressor view per frequency band that used to be in their previous dynamic EQ called "Fix3" is no longer there. That's a shame because that view was a fantastic interactive tool.
    Anyway Toneboosters are great. I've used them a lot since the beginning. I will probably get the new plugins when I upgrade to Apple Silicon.

    • @PaulMDiaz

      Thanks for watching and for your feedback. You're right, that is the stated limitation. So far, I have been using TB plugins for over a year and I have not had issues with projects retaining the settings.Maybe it's dependent on which DAW is being used. Also, if you are using an audio editor such as Wavelab or TwistedWave like I do, effects are applied or rendered on the spot. Depends on your workflow. I demoed EQ4 long enough that I purchased it.

    WHERE IS THE SIDECHAIN FEATURE? I CANNOT FIND IT

    • @PaulMDiaz

      in the floating box for each point you will see a section that says "linked". Click on that and you will have the mid/side option

    • @greghillmusic
      @greghillmusic Рік тому

      @@PaulMDiaz Mid/Side is not sidechain. Sidechain options would allow the EQ to listen to a source other than the channel that the plugin is on. An example of this would be if I have EQ4 on a guitar track, and want it to listen to the bass track. This would allow me to duck the low end on the guitar when the bass track sends signal (via sidechain) to the EQ on the guitar track. Selecting mid/side alone will only allow me to adjust a band on either the mid or side of the track that the plugin is on. That's not what I'm talking about.

    "Pro Q3 is probably the better eq" in what aspect I wonder. I own both but cant say I hear a difference in sound quality.
    Have you ever done comparisons like back to back and found that one sounds better than the other beyond placebo ?

    • @PaulMDiaz
      @PaulMDiaz  8 місяців тому

      Not a scientific test. ProQ3 has a wider frequency range. Not in front of my system but look at both and you’ll see Toneboosters has a narrower range. Also, I said “probably” not definitely. Both EQs are great and I love using TBs. Thanks for your feedback and pointing that out. I’ll be more careful next time.

    • @saardean4481
      @saardean4481 8 місяців тому +1

      @@PaulMDiaz I think you might misunderstood me. It's easy in the internets with only a few lines of text. I did not mean it ironically but sincerely. Like in "have you performed a test?" Does not need to be scientific. Just like "I did a high shelf boost and Plugin X sounded awful while the other smooth" something like that.
      Regarding Frequency range .
      I just took a look cause tbh I Neve cared.
      So Pro Q goes to 30khz. TB Eq4 highest possible Shelving eq is at 17khz and the spectrum till 20khz.
      To me this looks like a philosophy choice of the developer. I think the Dev might have thought "I find a shelf at 17khz enough" .
      However I now see that the high cut looks pretty steep meaning you cant cut at 19khz or similar. Not that I use cuts this high but I will ask the dev why this choice, thanks for pointing it out. On the other hand the Max Eq by PA has a max shelving at 70khz.
      Some find it too much others swear by it. Go figure.

      @@PaulMDiaz Ok. Found some things out. The Eq4 is basically this way cause they made it the way they made it 10 years ago and now they cant modify it without compromising legacy compatibility and making it unusable for use on older projects with saved automations etc. So the only way it's going to change is a new version. Having said all this I would love to see a comparison as to how much does it really matter in real world scenarios. I simply dont have the time and also not the music to do geek stuff at present or else I would do it myself
