Gotta say- The best part of me watching this video was when you mentioned 'Mountain Vista Fabrication' ! The dashbar is something I've been intetested in since I bought my '93 ZJ. Now I can just buy one instead of procrastinating about fabricating one on my own. I've subscribed to your channel and will now look forward to being notified about future content... I haven't gotten around to making an updated video about my misting cooling system I installed on my ZJ about 2 months ago, but it has REALLY helped keep my temps down below 210 degrees here in the Southern Utah desert.
I love the dash bar. Quite honestly, I love all of MVF’s products that I’ve installed. I’ve got some more stuff to put on. I’m going to be adding an auxiliary electric fan to hopefully help with the cooling system problems. Thanks for watching!
The 2010 Chrysler 300 5.7 electric fan fits perfect, a hayden fan controller and a 150 amp final relay solves the overheat issues. That's what I did on my 97 5.2.
Your overheating problem is not only solved by setting the thermostat to 82° On the XJ, the Fiat valve is placed to turn on the electric fan at 82°. (the mechanical fan clutch fan is removed and an electric duo fan from Malibu is installed) and if you have your water pump, radiator, 16-pound hose cover in good condition, that jeep will not overheat!
I gave my eldest son my "Brushed Platinum" 5.2 '97 ZJ LTD. I prefer my 4.0 '87 XJ Pioneer. But then I really miss my 360 '89 SJ Grand Wagoneer. I figured I'd watch out of amusement. Regardless of Jeep, your best references are going to be the forums not UA-cam or FB. Because if you want to do something, somebody else has already done it and you can say it's documented in a way you can do a search. No ill intent or disrespect to anyone. Keep information short and concise, provide good and clear visuals. Avoid loud and obnoxious intro's as music should be background effect else it's just a distraction. The focus is the vehicle at the end of it all. 😉✌
Ive had my zj over a year now and ive rebuilt the front end maybe a good 3 times over death wobbles. People kept telling me jeep stands for just empty every pocket. And ive done jus that lmao.
Try living with no a.c in virginia where its 90-100f with 90% humidity.. plus you need a.c to defog wimdows properly... it isnt hard to fix... i even fixed mine on my grand wagoneer.. just got a new comoressor.. and used mineral oil and refilled with r12..
i love my 5spd zj never had an issue with the gas door ever. running mvf armor and kept the door. but mines long armed locked 4.88s with an artec truss kit on a ford 8.8. my cup holders also work just fine why waste money on goddy parts you dont need that dont improve the jeep in any way. dont put different temp thermostant in either they are computer controlled and you should always keep the correct 195 in it.
Thanks for watching buddy. I, along with a ton a others love the cup holder fix. It’s an improvement. The thermostat is an age old argument, and I did what worked best for me. Your jeep sounds nice!
Honestly i dont like the Gen 1 ZJs.. too old outdated. The 2nd gen like a 98 is the best and the dash looks even modern today still. Also you dont need to buy that wobbly crappy cup holder fix.... lol 98s had a cup holder insert i sell them on ebay for 30$.. they always on ebay.. or find a 98 in the junkyard. Easy fix. Never had an issue eith our 4.0 and cooling ? 400k miles now ? Ours stays at 200f with a.c maybe 210. Ever think of upgrading the fan clutch... they do make differebt ones for more resistance on the coupler to get better cooling.. Check your torque boxes under the drivers and passenger floor.. they all rust there.. hidden by the undercoat from factory.. rusts out the frame you cant see eithsd
Nope! My shocks are actually off of an early 2000’s explorer. They are about 4.5” longer, as well as Stiffer, so helps with handling. They were about $160 off Amazon for the set.
. One good thing in down under we don,t have the rust issues . Please could some explain what this mountain vista fab steering box brace . Where would j get one . Thank you so much. ps the jeep we hot is the zj 96 , Right hand drive assembled in Austria. So hope one fits . Cheers .
Mountainvistafabrication.com The steering box brace bolts on underneath your sway bar mounts, and attaches to your steering box. It spreads the load of the bigger tires and what not to both sides of the frame, instead of that one little spot and 3 bolts it is held on by. This increases responsiveness and overall feel.
Brandon made a set for the first gens, I’m not sure that they’re still available though. The 2nd gen one works on the 1st gen, you just can’t tape it down so it’s slightly annoying but still serves the purpose.
This one was on 4” front springs, and I moved the stock front springs to the back. Then bought adjustable control arms and track bars from different places that were the cheapest at the time.
Mine has a 42RE in it. Not the strongest unit by any means, but is reliable with maintenance. Mine made it 260k before it got rebuilt, and it didn’t quit NEED it yet. Early 94 models came with the AW4, that is the one to get in terms of strength. 😃
I drove mine way too much on the highway for that. Moved me from Kansas City to south texas towing a trailer. Without sway bars, I’m sure I’d be in Oklahoma somewhere upside down
Not at all man mines been nothing but issues and endless$$$$$ lots of funs when it’s running but fucks up and throws no codes ever to give you any hints of the issues so You’re always on a wild goose chase searching for the problem seriously fuck dodge/Chrysler for making these cars so damn mundane

That’s really good to know. I picked up an orvis edition last night with the 5.2. May do that swap. Thank you!

Note to self. Don't fix the A/C so the coolant temps stay down. Hasn't worked since I bought it 5 years ago so I'm not missing it.
Very common issue on these. I’ll be replacing the whole system and adding a fan. Need it in south texas. 😅

I’m in Alaska so no problem 🤣
When I went looking for a ZJ, i looked specifically for one with the upcountry package and was lucky enough to find an Orvis Edition one with the 5.2
I’d love to have an orvis. That’s on my bucket list of cars.
Love your vids , great info ..Done loads of front suspension work . a fixed the death wobble .Steering feels very sloppy
Need a 5 things you like/dislike about the XJ and ZJ
👀
Not a bad idea! May have to try it out. 👀
@@LaterSlater the only regret i had when i owned the 5.2 was to not have the 5.9😂

i wanna see more about the cooling, i have a 93 that’s the exact same and the arizona heat doesn’t help. but great video, earned a subscribe
Thank you!

Great video, thanks for making it! Stupid question but are you running stock length shocks on your 4" lift?

You’re from Leavenworth County Kans-ASS?
Interesting that your fuel door has a cable mine just opens up but I have a gas cap key
They changed in 96. So the 93-95 has the goofy cable thing. 😁
all i need to do is replace my transmission then its just gonna be me ripping mine on some dirt roads

i had a 1994 zj inline six 4.0 and was a dog slow not good for towing if want a zj buy a v8 5.2 or a more desirable 5.9 if you can find it
How can i take the fuel door from the zj ? I can’t figure that out

Just bought a 95 zj but my gas door is broken, what one did you get?
I just bought a Jeep TJ gas door off Amazon.
I have a brand new set of Mopar factory fabric/velour upholstery for a ZJ if anyone needs it.
You still got?
what replacement headlights did u go with. The ones i ordered had shitty mounts and didnt line up or hold very well
TYC from Oreilly’s. It cost me about $100 for all 6 assemblies. I’m happy with them.
the cupholders are only for 96-98

You can always email and ask. I have the 2nd gen holder in my 1st gen and like I said, just annoying that you can tape it down but it works.
What lift you got boss and what size tires you hot

They’re actually 15s with a 33” tire.
Who else just doesn’t use or have sway bars?
I drove mine way too much on the highway for that. Moved me from Kansas City to south texas towing a trailer. Without sway bars, I’m sure I’d be in Oklahoma somewhere upside down
Very bad lighting. Couldn't really see inside the zj.
Thank you for the pointer. I appreciate you watching.
how reliable are zj 5.2 v8
They’re awesome in my experiences. They have plenum gasket issues, so they tend to burn some oil but they’ll burn oil for forever.
@@LaterSlater found a cheap one with high mileage still debating on it but good to know thank you and yours is sweet
