Cool video. The 8.8 is superior to everything but a Dana 60 and up. 9 times out 10 when you break an axle on the trail the diff cover comes off anyway.
Thank You for the great content. QUESTION. Can I flat tow behind my motorhome ( 4 wheels on ground) a 96 ZJ with the 249 transfer case? I tested by putting transfer case in neutral and transmission in park and zj moves freely forward and reverse as I push it. Ssme thing happens if transfer case is in neutral and transmission in neutral, I wonder what's safer. Please someone with experience on this reply. I have a trip coming soon and need to know. For my towing points I'm good. Jeep has a heavy duty winch mount with d rings and it's sandwiched over the unibody frame.. (1996 5.2 V8 with full time 4wd 249 transfer case, automatic transmission)
Who makes the "frame stiffener" kit that you are going to put on? I'm building a 98 5.9 Ltd right now and I'm going to need to strengthen the unibody for my planned 37"s.
@@MyJeep you are correct, but the wheel hub is bolted on, vs a floating hub with drum brakes. your axle will break. if your open, your down to front wheel power. if your locked, youll still have the other side to pull you home

Ill recommend you DB metal worx.. i have their full frame stiffeners
If that is a disk brake ford 8.8 you don't need to worry about the axle coming out if it breaks.
Still a c clip axle
@@MyJeep I think he means the disk brake caliper will keep the axle from falling out completely.

My 96 ZJ is EXACTLY like yours except the penstriping and badges are gold not silver. I want to put a lift and wheels and tires exactly like this
