Vibhas Patil truly. It came out of nowhere, with no shady agenda or outside influence-just a dude sharing himself and his talent and his insight. That’s about as pure as you can get. No script passed through lawyers, no corporate sponsorship, and absolutely no Gildan shirts. Can’t thank the guy enough for opening himself up for us in this messed up time.
I have played for 62 years. That tip from Tom on playing softly is way too easy! I can't beleive it! I played 2 songs for my wife - soft feel with amp up - she said it sounds amazing.. Thanks Tom
That is great advice a friend of mine once gave me; "let the amp do the work", because if it's too low, you're going to play too hard just to hear yourself, and playing too hard kills your sound and wears you out unnecessarily.
I randomly met Tom this past weekend at Rumble Seat Music in Nashville - super nice guy. I was admiring the guitar he was holding and he just said "wanna play it" and handed it to me. I had never played a guitar that vintage or expensive before - for the guy to just hand to pretty much a stranger was just the coolest thing. Such a great experience for me - it made my whole trip to Nashville! Was a 56 LP Goldtop and it blew me away just to play it for a few minutes. I couldn't thank him enough - just a little gesture that he didn't think twice about but it was an incredible few minutes in life for me. People like Tom and Tim make the world a better place - thank you both for your music and your spirit.
Robert, you're great as well...and put out a killer amount of content! I think you bought the last Squier Esquire in America, though...now I having to wait 'til fall!
I found Tom then you a little later.Found Tim somewhere in there as well. Highlight of my day. Sometime I get up early and check for new videos or as soon as I get home from work. So relaxing to admire such great work. Inspires me in my playing.
One thing I still don’t understand about TB. How the hell is he not a crazy famous songwriter? He is this never ending fountain of brilliant, compelling and complex music. His stuff can be chilling. Exciting. Funny. And always with the signature flawless polish. He should be like a serious millionaire. Love him so much.
He's a wonderful guitar player and obviously a very creative session musician (and top bloke) - but songwriting is an entirely different art. There's not a given cross-over between the two.
LOVED this Tim! Great to see Bukovac in his "element" creating parts on the fly. Fearless, confident, and humble all at once. A life lesson for all of us. Beautiful.
Great synopsis Keith. That’s what we are all thinking regarding Tom, his playing and his whole attitude towards life. Tom is truly the people’s champ. A humble genius who provides priceless information to the guitar community. He changes my whole outlook on the instrument and forced me to slow down and focus of musicality and melody rather than just improving my chops and speed and I’ve benefited greatly from that.
Here’s the 2 things I love about Bukovac beyond his playing. 1. He seems like he’d be just as happy to grab a beer at a hole in the wall as he would be on a stage in front of thousands. 2. His body language when he plays. You can tell that every single part of him is focused on what is happening musically in the moment. Love it!!!
Been following Tom's "Home Skoolin' " religiously. What a relief! And Tom, like Tim, seems just a stellar human being. That and insight and chops make these two all the UA-cam dose I need! Thanks to both!!
"Little Tommy" as he calls himself is great, and his channel is such an educational and fun experience. I watch every one of his videos, and I'm not even a guitar player - I'm a drummer. So much of what he talks about applies to any musician or musical instrument.
Agreed! Not only is his playing stellar and with depth, I could listen to him talk about the industry and his experience almost as much as the playing. Genuineness will ALWAYS triumph over anything else.
His intro in Volume 17 about "Touch" is a thing of understated beauty. I'm no country devotee but I had it transcribed soon after first watching him play it. He's had a huge impact on my approach to guitar, and music generally. First class player, first class guy.
Tom taught us something we've all been taught many times before, but we never learned. No matter what he plays, every single phrase sounds like a song to me. Most of us just noodle. Tom improvises a new song every couple of seconds, over and over again. It's one of the easiest lessons to teach, but it's the hardest one to learn.
That along with the fact that he can absolutely burn the frets off the guitar if he wants to. I mean, he can legitimately shred. However, you almost never hear him do it unless it serves the song and it necessary for the part. Brings to mind another lesson: Guitarists spend the first years of their career learning how to play as fast as they can, and then the rest of their career learning how not to.
@@Tier_1_Golf_Academy That is absolutely true, at one point I'd forgotten how incendiary his shredding chops are. He was playing that Dean Cadillac guitar (which I'd wish he'd play again), just off the cuff completely melted my face with totally precise, brilliant jaw dropping technique!! Pretty much, an "okay God has spoken" thing-ha ha. It's a testament to not only does he appreciate he's blessed with incredible talent, it's obvious that he works as hard as anyone practicing and perfecting his craft on top of that. Good point on the guitarist career curve with speed vs taste.
It seems like for a lot of us playing guitar is therapy And watching Tom go thru these cathartic moments over and over again showing us how important the guitar and music is to all of us is one of the greatest gifts of all
Beautiful music just drips from his fingers. While they can shred with the best of them, what I really love about TB and TP is the way they create soundscapes-little musical worlds that you can practically inhabit. This is a great example of 2 genius craftsman doing what they do better than anybody
Thanks Tim! What Tom said at the end is very true about youtubers. Spare y'all the details but random chance 3-4 years ago an Anderton's vid (Danish Pete and Mick Taylor which led to TPS, You, Pete Thorn and a host of others even that dorky german HP42) helped me get back into guitars and music after a 35 year layoff and deal with 15 years of disability/forced retirement, pain and paralysis.
Uncle Laary's youtube channel is the best thing that happen to guitar players in decades. It's like going to the crossroads in the old days only now you can do it from the comfort of your home and also keep your soul 😂
Tom wasn't kidding when he said he could've stopped at his first guitar and amp because he can make them all sound like him, meaning the same. I can relate. Thanks for all the priceless knowledge you two have revealed.
Hey, Tim, Don't die with a smile on your face anytime soon. Just know the help and inspiration you've given others is real and it matters. Cheers, Greg
You Know I found Tom Bukovac last night after watching Otis Gibbs video about Tom Petty. I have been subscribed to your channel since my first comment a month or so ago. I have been playing guitar since I was 16 and at age 55 I just wanted to dive back in and get more serious. Your channel and learning about the connection within a group of guitarists I never heard about is absolutely amazing and I am enjoying everything. Cheers. Happy St. Patrick's Day.
Listening to bukovac play gave me a whole new perspective on guitar music. Grateful that people like him exist. Like hearing miles or Coltrane for the first time. Here is another way of thinking about music.
I needed the wisdom of this entire vid. This is a forever video. A staple to go back to find a little inspiration. To teach others...amazing. One of the hardest things to keep is the passion.
Hi Tim, I’ve seen your name for years. Covid introduced me to Tom Bukovac. His prog and his Uncle Larry magic inspired me to make an imitation video of him. Up until today you were safe from such treatment. I’m one of those lucky people who gets more than fifteen migraines a month. I often get weird surprises of inspiration. You are now officially in the hopper. You can see what I did to poor Tom by clicking on Columbo’s face.
Two greats. Look at the economy of Tim’s hand movements, he’s so precise, subtle and plays so smoothly. His vibrato is like a machine. It’s like watching a tradesman who’s worked at his craft for 40 years. Look at a bricklayer move mortar around, it’s remarkable and Tims playing reminds me of that. This stuff is pure gold. These guys are doing the Lords work. It is not all about shred and playing a million notes. Its about making every note count.

Cracked me up when Tom says, "God that's hard to play!" at 12:23. Yep, Lindsey's stuff is sometimes impossible, but when you can manage to squeak it out, it's magic.
I just want to thank you now for turning me on to Tom's playing when you posted this video - he is such a tasty, insightful player, and his channel is the top of my must watch videos for his playing, insights, and the off the cuff conversations with the go to studio players he works with - it is the gold standard revealed.

Cracked me up when Tom says, "God that's hard to play!" at 12:23. Yep, Lindsey's stuff is sometimes impossible, but when you can manage to squeak it out, it's magic.
I'm so glad you guys are loving it, 'cos we are too! Thanks
I just want to thank you now for turning me on to Tom's playing when you posted this video - he is such a tasty, insightful player, and his channel is the top of my must watch videos for his playing, insights, and the off the cuff conversations with the go to studio players he works with - it is the gold standard revealed.
Just found this channel ..cant stop watching Thanks Tom your a hella nice guy with no big Ego
Great collection of coolness. 😎
Respect the both of you. ✌️
I was early to Tom on day 2. He just popped up during Covid. A lot to learn from great players like you guys!!
I love how both of these guys play with so much emotion, even if it's just for a UA-cam video.
Fabulous Tim, I could watch and listen to you guys all day, great video, thanks! 👍❤️
You both are the BEST!
Great song and talk with ole Uncle Larry!! More please Dr Tim!!!
