      because they called it Cherokee, a lot of jeepers have been buying jeeps for 20 years or more, and are um... traditionalist? they hate when anything changes. if they had called it literally anything other then Cherokee it would have been fine, but old jeepers grabbed their pitchforks because it didn't look like the box they used to drive (nevermind the liberty was called Cherokee everywhere except the US). I personally like it though

    I own the 2015 Limited ADII with tow prep. It's a decent vehicle overall, provided you have the V6. There are however, some things Jeep needs to improve upon in my opinion.
    They could have done a much better job providing adequate storage space around the center console area, where the shifter is. The two small bins Jeep provided are strangely shaped, and you can't fit much there. They don't even provide enough space to fit a cell phone. The only other option is to put the phone in one of the 2 cup holders, or put it inside the armrest storage compartment, where it's out of sight.
    If you've got the V6 with the ADII, don't expect to get more (mpg) than 20-21 combined. The freeway mileage is actually pretty good for an SUV though. You can get 23-24pmpg at about 75mph. If you can keep the car at 65mph or under, you can get 26-27mpg on the freeway. The best I've done was 26mpg. Don't trust the fuel mileage calculator. Its calculations are consistently 2 mpg generous.
    The V6 engine provides adequate power, but low end torque could be a bit better in my opinion. Its lofty tow rating (only when equipped with the factory tow prep) is derived from an upgraded axle ratio and the addition of a bigger radiator and some tranny coolers. Buyer be aware! You can't buy the V6 and simply strap on a hitch after the fact and be rated to tow 4500lbs. I'm not saying a V6 Cherokee with an aftermarket tow package can't physically tow 4500lbs, I'm saying Jeep won't rate the vehicle as such, and neither will the warranty. You're stuck with a rating of 2000lbs unless you have the factory tow prep package.
    Most of the problems Jeep has had with the 9 speed transmission are software related. There have been numerous software updates and from what I can tell, most of the problems have been sorted out. ZF says the transmissions are supposed to shift hard. Some other problems still persist however. While driving from a rolling stop, the transmission will often start in 3rd gear. This causes 4-5 seconds of engine lag which can be very annoying when you need the vehicle to accelerate quickly. You'll have to manually downshift to 2nd gear to avoid this, which is what I do.
    It's a decent car overall. I put 20,000 miles on mine last year and so far there's nothing that's given me cause to think it won't be a reliable vehicle. You'll probably never see 9th gear, even on the freeway, but truthfully, this vehicle needs a high gear transmission in order to get decent highway fuel mileage.

    This past May i bought a 2016 Cherokee with every single available option (including the V6) on the limited trim. I love it so much, I also drive with a lead foot and I'm averaging 23-24 mpg. I recently went on a road trip (460 miles) and I was averaging 30-32 mpg at 80mph.

  • @markhampton6178
    @markhampton6178 8 років тому +24

    I'm not sure how you get "It's always hunting for gears" I find that statement false as I have owned one now over over a year and never had this happen. Gas milage with the V6 is actually better than the 4 cyl, I normally get 32-33 mpg and our last trip to Saint Louis from Dayton Ohio it averaged 36 mpg! So if you are test driving one of these with less than 1000 miles then maybe the funky shifting you feel is the transmission still in learning mode.. trust me after 1000 miles it's smooth as silk.

    Excellent review Sofyan! After seeing each individual Cherokee review with the 4 and 6 cylinder engines, I honestly believe that the V6 is a much better fit for the vehicle for both it's personality and the delivery of its overall performance. I also noticed that the 9-speed auto was able to shift better with the V6 than it did with the 4 cylinder because the PentaStar engine sounded more quieter and less noisier than the TigerShark engine did with it.

    Not a good solid thunk. Drove a new Jeep Compass last year given to me by someone else's insurance since they hit my Acura, the vehicle was heavy, and slow. Too heavy for the 4 cylinder in the vehicle, only thing that felt decent was it felt like it could drive up a mountain.

      It works much better now, my friend has 10k miles on his after they fixed it and it's actually been pretty solid. He has the V6 Pentastar engine, which actually seems to be better on gas than their i4. Did you have the four cylinder engine?

    • @J-W.-
      @J-W.- 8 років тому

      matt molloy Yep, I've noticed the 9speed is better with the V6 compared to the 4 banger, it's even worse in the Renegade.

      It sucks that the Renegade doesn't have a V6 option. That i4 is one of the only things that I really dislike about the trail rated version.

    I test drove the 2017 Jeep Cherokee Limited last night. I recently purchased a 2016 Acura RDX. I'm thinking about trading it in for the 2017 Jeep Cherokee Limited. I know this video is about a 2016 Redline but they look the same and seem comparable from what I seen. I would love to see reviews between the Jeep Cherokee Limited V6 2017 and my Acura RDX V6 2016.
    I like the look of both. I had a Mitsubishi Montaro for the last 16 years. Anchorage, AK doesn't have a Mitsubishi dealership and I'm not willing to pay the travel to Seattle just to do a test drive on the car.
    The Acura 2016 RDX is a nice car but its size is like a car. I need a true 4X4.

    • @alexlauer7571
      @alexlauer7571 7 років тому +1

      It really comes down to taste, ignore the people who hate jeep, you'll get a lot of "it's unreliable, the transmission sucks" etc, but those issues are almost entirely contained in the i4. The v6 has been a very good performer for Jeep and in general. The Cherokee feels heavier and more solid when driven, then pretty much anything in its class. it sacrifices sportiness of competitors for this, but I find the driving it to be more enjoyable, it has a consequential driving feel that most modern cars lack, in my opinion.

I also still struggle with the lights not sure if I can get over the whole backwards headlight thing it has going on. Also the 9 speed transmission yuck.... Can't say I would buy one, but thinking about the market a lot of the die hard Jeep fans like me would just buy a 4 door Wrangler anyways....

    I bought a 2019 Cherokee Latitude Plus 09/2019 - I put 6300 miles on it - Transmission was laggy, motor was great, interior was really nice (especially for a Jeep), Electronics are horrible. Last week the vehicle went in to Limp mode due to an issue with the EGR - had to have it towed 70 miles to the dealer (Chrysler only paid for 53 miles of this). The day we took delivery (around 100 miles on vehicle due to dealer trade) the cruise control switch didn't work. 2 weeks into ownership the windshield cracked due to an install error (Chrysler replaced). After picking the car up from the EGR problem, 2 days later the entire infotainment screen went out. Dealer said it was an update. I no longer have this vehicle as I do not trust it - I now have a Mazda CX5 - couldn't be happier so far. I cannot recommend the Jeep Cherokee, or Chrysler products based on my experience with this for approximately 2.5 months.

      I have a 2012. While it's not fast, it is a fun car to drive. It handles corners well. It gets really good gas mileage, I drive on busy roads all the time and average around 40mpg. It's a very good city/suburban car. Just be sure to get the manual, it adds a lot to the car and brings out the more sportier side of the car, that the automatic doesn't. Obviously if you live in the city, I wouldn't recommend the manual, but I'd never buy an auto. I wish it had a better engine, the 1.5 is just not good enough.

      Why the fuck would you want a honda fit??over a jeep Cherokee. First there is zero comparison. The honda fit looks like shit and has no acceleration.
      Keep you 2 honda fits. Jeep way better car. The honda can get you and one other passenger from point A to B. Thats it.
      The jeep can tow 4500lbs 0 to 60 in under 7sec. Large enough for me to pack weeks worth of camping gear and still have a spot to lay and sleep comfortably. Im 6foot.
      A jeep is a swiss army knife, the honda fit is a loose single disposable razor blade.

    The problem with Jeeps is that they're not reliable at all. They AlWAYS rank at the bottom in the vehicle dependability test.

    9spd is garbage. I wish they just used the 8spd they use in the charger and grand Cherokee. That's a pretty good transmission.

    • @heinedenmark
      @heinedenmark 8 років тому +3

      Can't be done. The 8-speed is for RWD platforms.. the Cherokee is a FWD platform.

      they are engineers they can figure out a solution. Why put a garbage unreliable 9spd transmission when they can use the a perfectly fine 8sp. I guess you google for your basic knowledge.

    • @heinedenmark
      @heinedenmark 8 років тому +4

      You are really stupid. Do some research. The vehicles that use the very 8 speed couldn't use the 9 speed and the other way around. It's not possible ffs

    There is no kind of ugly this vehicle is destined to be another Chrysler/fiat that should not have been made. As in like the Chrysler K Cars, bad design then and now this vehicle is going to be and is now a bad design. Looking back people are going to ask What was Jeep thinking. Anyone remember the Pontiac Aztek???

      I concur, they really messed up when they got rid of that classic Cherokee body style, as well as that straight 6 4.0L engine. Jeep should have kept that formula in tact & made it slightly bigger like they did with the Wrangler. Instead they ditched it for that garbage underpowered 3.7L V6 Liberty, which looked awful by comparison.
