You guys are doing a great job. Rented a Cherokee Trailhawk for two weeks and took it to Moab with a guide (who thought I was Jerry, one of your engineers because of the vehicle and I'm black). This thing is so capable offroad, I couldn't believe it. Now on the road my wife and I are comparing the quietness of the ride with our VW Scirocco we own back home. Really great job!!
+Joe Laney Good work brother, I just pickup a new 2016 Trailhawk. and love it. If it can handle the roads up here in Northern Ontario its a good Jeep. Proud CAW retiree.
Funny how folks are crying fowl over the new design and look. Honestly, after driving my friend's Cherokee over a pretty rough trail road, I realized it's pretty badass. Honestly, if you want a heavy off-roader then get the Wrangler, its what its built for. But this is like a Range Rover; built for medium off-roading and street use for those of us who don't go out mudding on the weekends. I do give them props for actually trying something different.
I bought mine because I love the way it looks and it has 4x4. I'm a family man and it comes with everything I need. I don't think this car was ever designed to be a hard core off-road vehicle like a wrangler and neither was the old Cherokee. The fact is that after markets have come into play turning the old Cherokee into a legend. Kind of like Hondas were never designed to race but with aftermarket parts, it became a popular car for many 1/4 mile track racers. Jeep never took anything away from anyone, the fact is it us up to aftermarket designers to take something that was not meant to be and make it happen.
The Trailhawk has really grown on me, it's now to a point where I think it's really sharp. Still rather have a Grade Cherokee or a Wrangler, but they're obviously different type of vehicles.
Bought my Trailhawk 2 weeks ago, love it so far. I have also had had my fist rescue, the pizza guy who buried his front end bumper deep into the mud, Cherokee didn't go above idle to pull him out.
i was one of them "it's not a jeep" guys ,but bought me a 2014,and even stock,it's a lot of fun, it's a buggy,my trailhawk is the only vehicle that made it up a very steep hill more like a mogul that no vehicle has ever climbed,it did it on its own with very little help on the accelerator,in hill descent its got you covered no rolling back if you are climbing and no runaway if you are going down,
We are a three jeep family (80 CJ5, 2001 XJ, 2005 TJ Rubi) and my wife wanted this vehicle to replace her 2010 Camaro that just sat in the garage. I was a bit skeptical at first, but insisted she go with the Trailhawk if she were getting one. After driving it for a month, I have to admit I REALLY like it. Its nasty looking (and I mean that in a good way, get tons of compliments on it), and its very capable in mud and snow and fantastic handling on the highway and around town. Rather sissy interior, but then it is for my wife. Lots of power and much better gas mileage than any of the other JEEPs and Camaro. Not gonna be climbing boulders with it but that's what the TJ is for. Overall two thumbs up.
I hated its looks at 1st....but now I LOVE it! Go Figure! While it's based on the Fiat 500 platform it is certainly NOT a shit Fiat! If those that share that opinion had ever DRIVEN one they wouldnt think that.
I have nothing but positive comments for the trail hawk. Have a fully loaded mango tango. Have hit a high of 28 mpg. Has plenty of power and ride is smoother than my Cadillac CTS. Seats surround me like a glove. I have absolutely no fear of ever getting stuck in the snow here in Pa. The engineers got it right.. Did I mention how easy it is to change oil. Absolutely love the cartridge oil filter. Some of the options arent even found on luxury car costing double the trail hawks asking price. I love it.
I drive 25,000 miles a year and in brutal snowy midwest winters. I also go shooting at ranges that are off road and out of the way. I drove one of these today. Having a vehicle that is almost as nice as my Acadia on the road and at 70mph PLUS being able to take the same vehicle off road and down unplowed country roads is huge for me. I was initially going to get a Grand Cherokee but the Trail Hawk drives so much nicer on road, the added MPG is just a bonus. I still haven't decided but it'll be a TrailHawk or a Grand Cherokee for me in the next 2 months. I think Jeep is going to own this section of the market place. FWIW it looks a lot better in person, on UA-cam it looks pretty bad.
The first modern off-road certified compact SUV. This car didn't have any true competitors (outside of Jeep's own Compass Trailhawk) until the RAV4 TRD Off-Road in 2020 and the Ford Bronco Sport in 2021. There was always the Forester of course, but before the Wilderness in 2022 it just wasn't on the same level of capability by a wide margin. It worked more as a winter vehicle than a true off-roader.
We have a 2019 Trailhawk and we really enjoy it. My wife drives the TH. I drive a 2009 Jeep Liberty, which I absolutety love. Can't wait for Jeep to power uo a straight 4.0 XJ2. We had a 98 XJ till we put 304,000 miles on the odometer.
I was like most people hating on it until I realized all this bitching isnt going to make it disappear. If you dont like it, dont buy it! Jeep has to keep up with what consumer trends are, compete in a global economy, as well as work with the Italian Fiat designers as they now own the company. The Cherokee is perfect placement in a VERY competitive segment and they are CRUSHING the competition. Be happy for Jeep. They will always have the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee to please the traditional fans. Jeep is offering us the best of both worlds with an improving line of Jeeps for all driver wants and needs. O|||||||O
Well said. I love mine and am coming from four years of Jeep owning. I still have my 07 Grand Cherokee and my mother now drives my old 2001 Jeep Cherokee.
steven thompson Thanks. I guess stubborn people will just be stubborn haha. Its nice to hear that a previous Jeep owner like yourself can appreciate this update. Its not 100% perfect (nothing ever is) but damn did they do a great job on its introduction! I can only imagine how great the updates will be.
I understand that they have to make these improvements to satisfy the general public and sales, but I truly can't stand that they're using names like the original cherokee and renegade for a glorified Jeep Compass. The renegade and cherokee were synonymous with off roading capability and really meant something to a lot of people who owned these vehicles on a personal level.
I have went to moab with my trailhawk. It did perfect not one problem. Handled like a champ with wings. Even went up a incline that a wrangler had to get a running start. It has all the capabilities without the crap gas. I needed a best of both worlds and I now have it.
This Cherokee model was never meant to have the off road capability or compete with the likes of a Wrangler, Range Rover etc... It is in a segment of small to mid size crossovers that have a good degree of passenger comfort and are ideal for small families. However, it does have Jeep in its blood with its 4X4 ability making it the most off road capable of any other makes or models in this segment.
I bought a 2014 Cherokee trailhawk, bought it with VA and loaded paid $31,586 out the door, my first trip off road passed a 2010 wrangler stuck pulled it out and then took the hill no problem he could not climb, drive a new trailhawk before you talk
I just purchased a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk (it’s now 2018) and I’m very happy with it. It really is a wolf in sheep’s clothing! My fiends laughed when we all went out for a bit of bush bashing. They’re not laughing now. It’s a very competent vehicle on and off road. It’s looks a bit different but what do you want? All 4WD’s to look the same. I like it!!
Hate to tell you this but, I've taken my 2011 Ford Escape over similar terrain. I took the 3" chin spoiler off which drastically increased my approach angle. Cherokee is nice with the rear locker, but I love shocking people with how much my Escape does. Too bad Ford babied up the 2013 and newer.
These hater comments (not just this video but YT as a whole!) show a lack of open-mindedness. Before making such comments, maybe folks should actually experience this vehicle and DRIVE IT off-road and on. Ya ya, I know what you're going to say..."I dont need to drive it...it doesnt flex and only solid axle designs can go off road abd this is just a joke Fiat and bla bla bla...". LOL. Whatev guys! OPEN your minds and realize that there is an entire world of situations and people that this vehicle is perfect for, and that while it may not have the abilities of the Wrangler, it is still a great vehicle and beats the pants off almost anything else available for light-mid level off road duty!! I am a Jeep guy...and had a Great Wrangler TJ with 3" lift and 33's (I miss her!) and loved that Jeep, but my needs changed and I needed a DD that could also handle going off road. I bought a Cherokee Trailhawk and I love it! The thing is amazing off-road for the most part! Sure, it does not have the suspension flex to handle what the Wrangler can, but for anything except extreme off-roading and rock crawling the KL Trailhawk is a fantastic vehicle! Kudos to Jeep for a job well done, and thumbs DOWN to the haters of the world. Spreading such negativity is not only unproductive, but it poisons the mind and soul of not just the hater, but seeps into other unsuspecting people as well! It's simply NOT GOOD people!!!! If you wanna make a post critical of something in a respectful manner, that's different, but the way these youtube comments have become mean and disrespectful is disheartening. Remember...PERSPECTIVE is EVERYTHING in this world!!!! In any situation (not just videos but all through our lives) try to see things from other points of view, and a whole new world starts to appear! Spread kindness, not darkness. :)
Very interesting how Jeep actually equipped the Cherokee to the gills. I wonder how its big bro the Grand Cherokee fares in comparison performance wise off road.
I have a white Trailhawk, paid like 38.5k for it I think. Man it is kinna wierd looking but it is a mean mean machine. Seriously an awesome vehicle all around.
How does the Trailhawk do in the snow and what tires would be good for both on and off road with snowy winters? I see that the 2014 Trailhawk comes with 245 55 r17 tires. The only tires I can find for it with these capabilities are in size 245 65 R17. The pressure in the tires is much higher than the TPMS is made for. Do you have to go to a jeep dealer and get it recalibrated for the higher pressures? If so what kind of money is that going to cost? Thanks for any replies on this as I just bought a 2014 Trailhawk and it has firestone destination LE tires which are going to be terrible in the snow or light off road use.
in my amateur opinion, the engineers over complicated the drive train. Example of this is the rear axle. it is not called an axle at all, and it has two sets of drive pinions. the transmission out puts to the rear unit(its not an axle, per jeep) without a transfer case. It come straight out of the back of the transmission. In short, too many moving parts in the drive train, compared to the tradition off road drive train
Hi there I am JP from Miami Florida I was looking at your review with this Jeep and I've got a question is there been any recalls on the Jeep thank you
+Juan Paulo There was a recall on the 4cyl Cherokees due to the possibility of the radiator hoses being placed too close to the exhaust manifold. Another recall that just came out is for models with the power liftgate... water can get into the electronics. Also, I know that the transmission had a few software updates. Regardless, I love mine!
I know that some of Jeep's marketing material refers to it as a midsize SUV. But this is a Compact Crossover SUV and I don't understand why Jeep's marketing would try and market it as a midsize.
18mpg hwy and 25mpg city, huh? sorry, I'm sure Aaron just mixed them up, but I ahd to point that out cause when I first hear 18mpg hwy, I was like WTF? Really? LOL.
Not ugly. Just not the best looking. The designers neglected to evolve the well-known Jeep design. Instead they opted to start from scratch. I'm not surprised how much Jeep enthusiasts are against this vehicle. I personally like the way it looks, but then I'm not really a Jeep guy so there you go.
My Jeep The XJ was regularly very heavily reinforced, even modified to ride on the CJ's ladder frame. in full custom rigs to prevent flexing. A little flex is tolerable, but a hair too much becomes bending and worse folding. BTW, a LOT of modern off road SUVs and trucks, will lift a wheel with trail or rock crawling, Land rover, Jeep, Chevy, Ford, Ram, the list goes on. Sorry. No prize for you.
I have a Trailhawk and it's been great. People keep saying it's not an old Cherokee or it's ugly. I don't buy a 4WD to be pretty. If you want a rock crawler buy a Wrangler. I never really like the old Cherokees much. I never understood buying one then having to modify it to try and compete and go where a Wrangler can go, just buy the Wrangle from the start. Why take a vehicle built for road and dirt and just make it for dirt and ruin its road capability, when you can buy a Wrangler that already does that.
I owned one.. I have also run Rubicon trail with my brother in his Wrangler.. I have to say as someone who owned one, I can't see this finishing the Rubicon trail lol.. My new Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road definitely could lol
Now what I think is funny is when jeep say yes yes it's off road capable yes absulutly....ya when they say that it means driving it down a litly gravled road
my mom who doesn't speak good english calls my car " turkey"........" my son bought a new car, it looks nice but it's got a fucked up name, something called jeep turkey! what kind of company gave their product a name turkey???" And she always refers me as "her" instead of "him".
I will NEVER sell my old XJ Cherokee for the new KL Cherokee...solid axles front and rear and looks good, compared to full independent suspension and the looks of this...on top of all that, my 99 XJ Cherokee has the bulletproof AMC 4.0L straight six motor that will last ten times longer than that pentastar...
dodge has disgraced the jeep name.... independent suspension.... almost no suspension travel... at least it has a locker and fold down seats... they got that right
Stay away from the Jeep Cherokee 2015 my jeep has less than 3 thousand miles; they are putting a new transmission in. don’t waste your money recalling the transmission
It won't be doing 180mph (not like you would be able to in an XJ) , but aero still plays a part in gas mileage (still not the greatest in an XJ), which is still important in this class.
+MantonFitness It does not compare to the original Cherokee in any way. The only new Jeep models that can hold their own off-road are the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, and maybe the Liberty. They should've carried on the Cherokee legacy with the Liberty..not this ugly piece of trash.
+Kaden Keen The new trailhawk models are great. Might want to do a little bit of research. Just because you personally don't like the way it looks, doesn't make it trash. It's been rated Four Wheeler of the year by Four Wheeler, best in class off road capability, and most capable mid size SUV. The trailhawk model is phenomenal, and still packs interior comfort.
MantonFitness The Trailhawk costs around $40k. You can build or buy a low-milage XJ for well under $5k that would run circles around that Fiat POS. It's nothing more than an ugly, overpriced mall-crawler...and an insult to both the Jeep and Cherokee names.
This thing is for soccer moms! It has no rear wheel travel. You can't ride it in any deep water. The Liberty would school this thing off road and towing a trailer. This is a joke! Fiat is killing Jeep.
Wow, seeing this guy driving is painful to watch. Would have been a nice demo video but I wouldn't recommend watching because of him. Poor Jeep rep in the passenger seat looks frustrated!
My girlfriends Corolla has more flex than that...this shouldn't be taken off road, the only thing they've done right is the diff lockers. That's it. Look up videos of old vs new. $600 stock XJ out performs this POS
there is no definition for how a jeep should look. if you think jeeps should look like a box then stick with the xj jeep is moving forward and keeping up with the times they are never going to make a box like the xj again (maybe patriot but i doubt it will last long). i love the xj but i also like the new cherokee.
What a fucking joke. It has no flex, no travel, no clearance, no real tranny behind it, and it's retardedly impractical to lift. Much better suited for driving grandma to church on sunday than doing any REAL off roading. This thing would get laughed at and left in the dust on even a very easy trail. All it would take is some deep ruts or a rock bigger than 10 inches and you'll high center.... have fun wasting your money on a joke of a "jeep" made by FIAT.
Actually, a good set of coilovers would give it a decent boost and would have more adjustment for trail vs street than just coils and leaves then allow for more tire room. Getting it hung up on too tall of a rock is more of a problem with driver stupidity if there are other ways to get through.
I build these at the Jeep plant in Toledo Ohio. Proud UAW worker.
Joe Laney ,nice :)
,can you put in a good word to them about bringing the 04 grand Cherokee body style back -----> i love my jeep

Bravo! I bought one!
I saw one of these behind me on the road today and I got to admit, those headlights looked pretty badass when looking at it head on.
I own one of these beasts. Living in Canada, snow is no longer an issue.
Funny how folks are crying fowl over the new design and look. Honestly, after driving my friend's Cherokee over a pretty rough trail road, I realized it's pretty badass.

ordering my trailhawk Tuesday in mango tango orange!

Way to go Jeep! I like it.

You sure gave that puppy a workout!
ill take solid axles and a real transfer case over electronic ascent and descent control any day.

It's cool and all, but I'm not crazy about its looks
Lot of haters trying so hard. Not accomplishing much at it either.
No flex at all mate.
Not a real Jeep.
My Jeep
Normally Jeeps have so much ground clearance and wheel travel that they don't have to flex. Besides Jeeps don't flex.
Trail Hawk is a joke. Flex is needed for real offroading. Look at how the old cherokee flexed.
My Jeep
The XJ was regularly very heavily reinforced, even modified to ride on the CJ's ladder frame. in full custom rigs to prevent flexing.
I know a lot of modern suv's have no flex, but this is trying to be more. If it is to go offroad so well it needs more flex. SOLID AXLES
Rubicon Trail? Really?
Yeah them rescue hooks will be needed on this JEEP!
mishap 18 hwy 25 city revers it
This overgrown station wagon does not deserve the Cherokee name.
and you are a bullshit
not really sure what that means...
You do realize the Cherokee has always been an overgrown station wagon, even the original full sized 2dr Cherokees.
Then it's the only station wagon I've ever seen with solid axles.
Wtf is that. Im sorry cherokee fans and lovers.
It's a shit fiat
Ps:buy an old Cherokee
Dakota Jaegle
Thanks to Fiat shit Jeep is still alive
That's meant to be offroad? I could do that in a corsa! 😂
Doubt
Where was this filmed?
Just outside of Los Angeles on a ranch that was also used for filming the TV Series M*A*S*H (among other things.)
Driving Sports TV
Sweet. Now what is the name of the trail and how do I get there?
+Maistro69 looks like Silverado Canyon Road
AMC 4.0L last longer??? If you say so..
You might want to actually DRIVE one before making that statement ;)
dodge has disgraced the jeep name.... independent suspension.... almost no suspension travel... at least it has a locker and fold down seats... they got that right
Ferrari owns fiat which now owns Chrysler. So you know their work will be quality.
Stay away from the Jeep Cherokee 2015 my jeep has less than 3 thousand miles; they are putting a new transmission in. don’t waste your money recalling the transmission
A Condas Sorry to hear about that. Some brands have higher failure rates, it's a matter of luck.
+A Condas 14-15 (hopefully not 16) are notorious for transmission issues.
A lot of rescuing...haha more like getting rescued...a lot
2:35 - "271 horses and 239 torques"
Morons, your bus is leaving...
"jeep figures you're going to be doing a lot of rescuing" more like being stuck a lot
Firestone tires OMG hope you have a spare THERE NO WAY I WOULD HAVE FIRESTONE TIRES ON ANY OF MY VEHICLES. ITS MICHELIN TIRES FOR ME!!!!!!
You'll probably be safe, they're not underinflated and mounted on a Ford Explorer.
I had enough thing but bad luck out of Firestone Bridgestone tires! Deals or no deals i'am done with them! There will be NONE ON MY VEHICLES
Queue the poser dad hardcore metal guitar!
I'll take my 99 cherokee over this thing any day
Aerodynamics in a freaking jeep? Get real LMAO like it going to do 180 mph
It won't be doing 180mph (not like you would be able to in an XJ) , but aero still plays a part in gas mileage (still not the greatest in an XJ), which is still important in this class.
i agree, it still plays a roll in gas mileage
we all knew jim morrison wasnt dead...
what the hell is this?
This is an insult to the Jeep name!!
+Kaden Keen This is a consumer friendly version of the Jeep that provides great road comfort, with satisfying off road capability.
+MantonFitness
It does not compare to the original Cherokee in any way.
MantonFitness
The Trailhawk costs around $40k. You can build or buy a low-milage XJ for well under $5k that would run circles around that Fiat POS. It's nothing more than an ugly, overpriced mall-crawler...and an insult to both the Jeep and Cherokee names.
Jeep has lost its soul.
It has
This thing is for soccer moms! It has no rear wheel travel. You can't ride it in any deep water. The Liberty would school this thing off road and towing a trailer. This is a joke! Fiat is killing Jeep.
2:44 that's one cheap sound, yuuck
Wow, seeing this guy driving is painful to watch. Would have been a nice demo video but I wouldn't recommend watching because of him. Poor Jeep rep in the passenger seat looks frustrated!
Note: this was filmed almost a decade ago. Lol.
Economy figures were backward.
My girlfriends Corolla has more flex than that...this shouldn't be taken off road, the only thing they've done right is the diff lockers. That's it. Look up videos of old vs new. $600 stock XJ out performs this POS
There's sooooooo much more to wheelin than flexin... These things are fantastic off-road and will follow the old Cherokees anywhere.
UGLY..I'll stick with my 2001 Cherokee. At least it looks like a Jeep.
there is no definition for how a jeep should look. if you think jeeps should look like a box then stick with the xj jeep is moving forward and keeping up with the times they are never going to make a box like the xj again (maybe patriot but i doubt it will last long). i love the xj but i also like the new cherokee.
and you are a bullshit
Like the Grand Cherokee..that's keeping up with styling and maintaining the jeep heritage. The new Cherokee is just crapola styling.
Fast81Z28 AND YOU ARE A BULLSHIT!
Going 1.4 MPH down a hill i would be like ya I can just walk down
What a fucking joke.
Wtf =Lyric Klein
You cut and paste all your comments. I've seen this over and over . Busted
YOOOOOOOOONNN!!
it would b awesome if it wasnt so ugly..
Haha a TRUE LOW RANG HAA
Wtf jeep W..T..F
That one ugly looking jeep, Its a POS! Don't wait for me to buy one cause i wont!
